Cables really make next to no difference in the grand scheme of things for delay. The signal travels so fast down the cable, that compared to processing times it doesn’t matter.
Hey, I skimmed, but admittedly didn’t read all 29 pages. I just wanted to let people know about the set I have, in case anyone has it and was wondering/just to help for reference sake/etc.
Anyway, I have a Toshiba 40RV525U. They run ~$800 at Best Buy and the lag is around 28ms (Rock Band 2), which is towards the upper end of playable, but it works for me… more or less.
Thats no where near playable for SF4.
ok i’m using an HP plasma screen running at 720p. this is kinda annoying me wondering if anyone had this issue
on guitar hero 2 and 3. I have lag of like 2ms. If i use rock band 2 it tells me it’s like 65ms.
wtf if the rock band 2 one is correct i should probably buy the official xbox 360 vga item i guess?
Get some other people to try the Guitar Hero tests. The problem with them is that you could be used to the lag and you’re actually pressing the button early in anticipation of it hitting the edge of the indicator.
I hope you mean the RB2 automatic test though. Otherwise I don’t know what’s going on.
Make sure to test more than a few times to be sure.
wait there is a RB2 automatic test? all the tests i’ve had to do on RB2 required me to do it manually. I must be missing something.
Oh i have a rock band 1 guitar playing rock band 2. apparently this won’t do the auto calibration?
PL4260N Plasma Digital HDTV is the model i’m using, i can’t think of an easier way to check for lag i’m pretty sure i have it because my timing is all off when i go to tournaments.

The Rock Band 2 guitar (the one with the maple neck) has a sensor on it for auto testing, so you are out of luck there. Run both GH and RB tests that you have available multiple times to get more reliable results, go buy a VGA cable, do the same tests again and see where you are at afterwards.
my VH236h package has been sitting in my city for 48 hours. Awesome. Hopefully I get it by August -_-
does it really take that long for them to drive over to my house?
Okay, I have read through most of this thread and it doesn’t really explain what I need answered. If it does, it went completely over my head.
I just got a 1080p HDTV (Sony Bravia KDL W4100) and I read a few things on response time or delay. It seems anything that isn’t really HD will have to delay due to whatever the reason is. When I played my PS2 for the first time using S-video the picture quality was terrible and the delay was about half a second off or not even. It’s barely noticeable to anyone who doesn’t play games that punish you based on timing.
The next day I ran out to gamestop and got their squid component cable that comes with PS2,Wii,and 360 cables combined. I hooked it up and it looked a lot better. I don’t think it fixed the delay much though. "I HAVE USED THE GAME MODE SETTING but it doesn’t seem to do shit.
My two quick questions are
-
If I buy a VGA cable for my HDTV and hook it up to my PC, will it look shitty and have bad delay? If so, what is a good graphics card for gaming that also has HDMI out?
-
Is their anything I can buy that will remove the delay to a point in which I can play music and fighting games naturally?
I did a timecode test on my TC-42C1 Viera. The Viera plasmas are what Konami uses in their Beatmania arcade cabinets, and by the test it seems like a good choice. Only has ~10ms of input lag, seeing as how they both change the 100th at about the same time.

thbirdman: What camera + settings do you use for your test? Particularly shutter speed.
It’s a sony cybershot. You aren’t able to change the shutter speed manually, so I have no idea what shutter speed it used for those pics.
get on it!

evo spec monitor for $125.00 after rebates and using ebill me.
can’t beat this with a stick.
loving mine:pleased:
Someone should keep track of which HDTVs with what connection/signal will produce no lag. Make a list of sorts.
@VeeARsix: How were they able to test that it had no delay, and do we have to do any special connection stuff? Or is it just something you can plug in and work right off the bat?
my VH236h just arrived. displays great but the audio disappears a lot when the screen changes…any way to fix this? i read about it before but I forget what the solution was…if there was one
Are you using hdmi? I noticed on mine (when using hdmi), when there’s been no audio for a while it takes 1-2 sec for the sound to come back on. When using vga it doesn’t happen…
yeah HDMI. I should’ve known there would be a catch…I don’t have any more money to buy extra cables so I guess I’m fucked as usual
Any dead/stuck pixels? I got 1 stuck pixel…
