The New Definitive HDTV Lag FAQ

so does it have to be the official microsoft vga cable? can i use any after market brand? i already have vga cable but i dont think its from microsoft.

Okay, after scouring the internets I think I found some bad news in that my model doesn’t support 1080p thru the VGA input. This really sucks. Apparently it’s capable but the firmware doesn’t exist to allow the TV to do it. I read that other people had done it, making the TV a secondary monitor - but I don’t know if it can be done so that the Xbox will output 1080.

Does anyone know if it can be done? Suggestions?

Has anyone tested the Hori LCD monitor for slim ps3s for lag?

I got one recently, and it feels comparable to the VH236H. Still, I’d like to do a proper test, and can let you know the results should I manage to do one. In the meantime…anyone else?

That would be much appreciated.

Thanks!

could someone help us to get a new screen with the best price/lag -ratio  here’s the page: http://www.verkkokauppa.com/fi/catalog/319b/Naytot/Asus?sort=price

We have a different model, but my TV lost a frame of lag on game mode after I did a firmware update. Seems worth looking into.

Also, I got a test a digital signage monitor, and while my camera isn’t ideal, I think the photos that aren’t blurry are consistent enough to come to a conclusion with this model:

So since the ASUS has 1 frame of lag (which I tested as well against a laptop) and the NEC V421-2 is 1 frame behind the ASUS, I think it’s safe to say we’re looking at a 42" display that has 2 frames of lag. I took it to Ramnation to let people play on it and nobody could tell the difference between it and the CRT’s they play tournament matches on.

Edit: Also, has anybody tested a console to Evo monitor via HDMI to DVI cable?

So, has there been an actual proper lag test done with the panny 32u3? 1080p, vs a crt, doing the camera comparison? Not rockband lag tests or comparisons with their dell laptop or their monitor they couldn’t get to do 1080p?

Anyone own the Asus VE276Q 27"** **http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824236091

I assume it is kinda similar to the evo monitor, just bigger. At least I would hope so.

ok I’ll try this, I just bought my monitor about 2 weeks ago but haven’t had a chance to try it out until last friday. My entire setup:
Xbox 360S console 250GB HDD/ HD VGA cables
LG HD LED LCD Monitor EW224T: 1920x1080, 60Hz refresh rate. 5ms.
Logitech LS11 2.0 speakers

The ms response time isn’t official, but the monitor’s sister brands are all 5 ms. Will test next week when I get GH3.
You can buy the monitor at Walmart or Amazon.

Hope this is the right place to ask. I know 120hz usually means that motion flow gimmick, but if I were to turn that mode off, will any HDTV still support refresh rates up to that point, or is 60hz still the cut-off?

Aaaah I cant believe I spent $30 on cables and a powered splitter to do testing only to find a used ld450 with the ips panel on amazon marketplace

I would really like to do a proper lag test on my tv but I don’t even know where to start. I’ve see lots of people asking for a lag test on a TC-L32C3 but no one has yet to come through. This is also my own personal tv.

Can some one point me in the right direction as to what I need and what I need to do in order to do a proper lag test?

60hz is still the cut off for TVs. i posted about the gimmick some few pages back

the easiest way to do this on the hdmi input, would be to get a powered hdmi splitter (monoprice sells them for under $25), and another 720p display thats has its latency well documented (dont use your laptop screen, use something thats been tested). If you don’t have another 720p, low latency monitor to test, a (documented, low latency) 1080p display with the input set to dot for dot (non scaled) mode might be sufficient, but dont quote me on that. If you want to test the vga input on your display, a crt and a vga splitter will work in its place.

Disable aero, assuming you are running windows 7, then run a stopwatch software on your displays such as smtt or the input lag test software on flatpanelshd (http://www.flatpanelshd.com/focus.php?subaction=showfull&id=1229335064). Take a lot of pictures with a high shutter speed.

Heres what someone else posted in the other thread

Thanks for the info. Not sure if I’ll get around to this being as I don’t have anything on that list but the tv and money is tight.

My amazon marketplace order got canceled this morning so I might be testing it.

Is any difference between the Asus VW236h (Evo monitor) and the Asus VW246h? They both claim 2ms response time – the only difference is an extra inch of screen real estate and some pixel stuff.

Hey commander i have a Asus VW246H and its just like the 236h version, laggless and very nice for fighting games.

Hey everyone. I have an asus monitor (23in) and im ready to upgrade to a 32in. Does anyone have any suggestions on which 32in lcd/hdtv would be great to purchase?

This year at evo at the capcom umvc3 station, they had this lcdtv http://www.tv-reviews-ratings.com/samsung-ln32c450e1d-review.html

Does anyone know the lag on there or if there is any? Thanks guys, any suggestions/help would be appreciated!!
