However, what I want to know is how reputable that test is.
Has anyone done both the Rock Band test and a standard CRT splitter test on the same TVs/Monitors? I’d like to see how accurate it is.
I want to apologize first. I know that everyone wants to know about X monitor and if it lags or not, but i really can’t find anything definitive about the ASUS VH238H. I was wondering if it was any noticeable difference in lag compared to the VH236H. I know its LED backlit so the picture and colors should be better overall and for about $10 more it seems like the better deal. I was just wondering if anyone had this monitor and if they have encountered any lag issues.
Sorry dude for not answering til now, but anyhow… if things aren’t being processed it shouldn’t increase the lag.
Cables are cables… data travels faster than 60fps, so having a converter (that does not have a processing chip involved) should not have a difference with lag. What are you trying to achieve? Both HDMI and DVI carry digital signal.
Forgive me, but I’ll give an idiotic reply and say, yes the VH238H monitor is the same. I have it and it seems as lagless as the VH236H. As a picky individual with lag, it’s definitely no worse on that front. However, being an LED, it does bleed a bit of backlight and you have to knowingly turn down brightness from the default of 100% or your eyes will cry for mercy after a very short time.
It’s a beautiful display otherwise… I bought it to stream evo (yes, and resolutions of streams nonwithstanding) because I didn’t want to watch stuff on a 20’ old viewsonic LCD.
I tried to test my Vizio VO370M 37" 1080p LCD vs a CRT with a VGA splitter, but the clock program was acting strange (the very last digit [1ms]) was stuck on one digit and wouldn’t move) Not to mention the results were strange as hell (I had 3 clocks open, and the one on the top and bottom were lagging while the middle one wasn’t)
despite that i took the pics and it seems like that television lags at around 1-2frames on average, most being 3-4frames. Expected of course, I’ll stick with the VE228H monitor for street fighter and this TV for all other gaming.
edit It works fine in the browser, but the exe file doesn’t really work that well. I will retry it when I have time.
snapped a bunch of pics of a Vizio VO370M vs a CRT LCD, seems to lag by 1 frame, rarely more than that. The first few pics snapped all show 0 frames of lag, but I think that has more to do with the shutter speed. Here is the gallery if you are interested:
Can you increase/decrease saturation on other modes besides “nightview” mode? I read a review somewhere that if you have it set on theater, scenery modes etc. you cannot control the saturation level. Thanks!
To those asking about the TC-L32C3. I was the one who posted back in June about the tv. Very sorry about the extremely late post but I didn’t really get a chance to get people to play on it (other then myself) till recently.
This man is correct about the lag. I don’t notice any input lag. In fact I haven’t noticed any lag in any of the games I’ve played on it (MvC3 and HDR) and I did not get any complaints from any of my friends that played on it. I’m an old school player so I usually go by feel so I apologize if I don’t have actual hard numbers for you guys. I don’t really like SSF4 so I really did not get to test it with that game but there were a few trials that I could not do on my old tv due to lag. Well I beat those trials relatively easily with the TC-L32C3.
As for the ghosting, I seriously have yet to see ghosting on my tv. I have no comment on this due to the fact that I haven’t seen it yet.
3SOE comes out for Xbox tomorrow and that is definitely a game where you don’t want lag. I’ll play it tomorrow and post what I feel as far as 3S goes. I’m not new to the game, I’ve been playing 3S since it came out, not great or anything but I’ll know if the game feels laggy.
Basically it’s a human reaction test. Do the test a bunch of times on your monitor and get the average, hook up your computer/laptop to your tv and do the same thing also getting the average. Then compare the 2 results, if you see a significant difference (website says 30ms) then you probably have input lag problems.
thing about that test is that how close you are to the screen will affect your result, as your body will respond to it quicker if the change is more apparent (a reflex).
So with the human benchmark test you gotta be pretty close for both screens before you test.
Each mode has different options that are greyed out for some reason. What you have said is correct.
I haven’t experimented fully with what gives the best picture yet, however.
Anyone with this monitor (VH238H), feel free to chime in on the optimal settings.
Hey all, posted this in another thread so here goes:
This is what I have:
TV: Sharp Aquos LC 46D64U
HDMI Cable
AV Mode set to Game
Xbox Resolution set to 1080p
Do I need a VGA cable to reduce lag? I have rock band 3 and used my arcade stick to test the input lag and it varied between something like 25-35. Will VGA lower that even more?
EDIT: Testing again I was getting between 44 and 54 lag on RB3!! How did that happen?? Guess I do need a VGA. Any help is greatly appreciated!
