The New Definitive HDTV Lag FAQ

http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/reviews/benq_xl2410t.htm

In-depth review of the BenQ XL2410T gaming monitor. Very low input lag apparently. Some of the other reviews are worth checking out too.

Edit: Searching for a new monitor is stressing me out. I might just jump on the bandwagon and get an Asus.

Does this have the same input lag as the evo monitor? Just considering it because the evo monitor seems to have a higher number of people saying it died after a few months.

That’s the Asus I’m looking at. Gootecks and Mike Ross use that monitor for CrossCounter so I doubt it lags.

Check the info.

They might use the vh236h, actually.
They must have made a mistake somewhere. They list the 242, but the link is for the 236h, so I’m not sure.
The spec for the 242 is 5ms. I know this doesn’t affect input lag, but I’m not sure about ghosting.

I’m thinking of getting a lagless monitor, too.
It would replace my desktop monitor, a samsung 24".
The main reason would be to play my ps3 in my bedroom. I enjoy playing at my desk rather than balancing my stick on my knees on the couch.
The problem is that my current 24" doesn’t have an hdmi port.
I’d also like to play on a lag-free setup, as my hdtv probably has a bit of lag.

Someone mentioned that the vk246h is a lagless, 24" version of the vh236h evo monitor.
I’m up in Canada, so I’d be buying from ncix.com, if any of you are familiar with it.
They don’t sell the vk246h, but a different model called the vw246h. I’m reluctant to get it because I can’t find any reviews on its input lag.
But I’m sure if I want to “step down” to a 23" from my current 24".
Does anyone know if there’s a difference between the asus vk and vw 24" monitors?
Should I just go with the tried and true vh236h 23"?
It’s currently on sale for $160 cdn, pre-rebate and pre-tax.

I was also looking at the led models. I’ve read that the led backlighting has no effect on input lag. Supposed to be just differences in darkness levels, bleeding, power consumption, etc.

Cheers,
-JD

ps. I’m kind of wanting a 24" because I’d like to run both of my monitors in a dual display for my pc.
I think I’d rather have matching sizes.

links:
the vh236h

the vw246h

^VW246H and VK246H - only differences are the built-in webcam.
You will be fine with either.

No the VH242H is not the EVO monitor. You want the VH236H - Crosscounter has it typed wrong in the description but the link goes to the correct model.

Damn that sucks, only the VH242H is available in the UK :frowning:

Get the VW246H or VK246H instead then. Both 24’ to boot.

Same specs and input lag right?

No and Yes. The EVO VH236H is a 23’ whereas the VK/VW246H are 24’. All equally fine for play.

Game mode is supposed to turn off the post processing to reduce input lag.

I heard good things about the u3 and c3. Please let me know how you like the TV. I was also thinking about getting the 37u3.

Will do sir. I’ll be finally using my tv this weekend after I move into my new apartment so I can give my thoughts. I don’t have any tests to run but I have been playing fighting games seriously since forever so in a heart beat I’ll know if it feels laggy. I have a friend who can instantly feel lag when he plays Tekken so I’ll see if I can get him to play on it as well so I can get a 2nd opinion.

I seriously would have bought the 37inch if my budget would have allowed it, it was the main tv I was shooting for but oh well can’t win them all.

Thanks for the info!
Looks like I’m gettin me a lagless Asus 24" monitor!
Yahoo! Time to finally play sf4 comfortably at my desk.

Anyone know of any 32" LCDs with minimal input lag? I’m talking on average less than one frame. The TC-L32X1 is impossible to find, but the C3 and U3 are promising. Has anyone run tests on those?

Less than one frame? I doubt it. Is there a particular reason for wanting a HDTV instead of a monitor?

Mainly because where I’ll be setting up the screen is too far to be playing on a 23" monitor. And plus I’m used to playing on larger screens. Certain things are just a lot easier to see on larger screens, like the start-up of slow moves. I wouldn’t have a problem with my current TV if it wasn’t the fact that it’s really old so even text is hard to read sometimes for certain games, as well as the fact that the sides get cut off due to the weird aspect ratio.

The TC-L32C3 is feeling really nice to me, though I’ve been kind of lazy about doing an actual test on it. I haven’t noticed any need to adjust from playing on my Evo ASUS but I’ve only been playing MvC3 and BBCS2 on it.

You can get 27" monitors with virtually no input lag for a good price i.e. Viewsonic vx2739wm
http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/reviews/viewsonic_vx2739wm.htm

i have the vw246h. the vh236h is still the best for a frame or less of input lag.
i will do a proper input lag test on both with #s once i get the vh next week from amazon.
its on sale @ amazon for $169.

any valid monitor alternative to the vh236h?

I’ve been reading this thread over the past 3 days and I haven’t found any fairly straight answers pertaining to my issues (or straight answers in general). I understand that when it comes to “input lag/delay”, it’s not a very advertised/sought after spec for a TV/monitor. That being said, here’s the set-up/details of my predicament:

My Goal:
To play SSF4, BBCS2, MvC3, and AH3 on a display that is HD and has less than 20ms (CONFIRMED) of delay.
Set-up:
TV= Philips 32" 32PFL5332D LCD TV
System=PS3, set to display in 720p through a 3ft. HDMI cable (all display and sound settings were set-up using the “Automatic” option).

I have Guitar/DJ Hero tested my TV to have an average of 59ms of delay (which equates to over 3.5 frames of lag… yikes!). Going by this thread’s info, it appears that having under 20ms of delay is DO-ABLE and PLAYABLE. I’m tired of playing on my laggy TV at home, and then going an arcade/local and being thrown off because I’m accustomed to playing on my laggy set-up. Money really isn’t an issue, but I’d like to have a display that is in the 30"-32" range. I really don’t want to go over 32". I’m feeling that these are my 2 options: Buy a new 32" TV to replace my Philips that has been tested to have 20ms of delay or less; OR get a computer monitor with HDMI inputs and set it up next to my current TV and use it when I’m going to play fighting games (if, ya’ll think there are better options, please share!!).

Questions:

  1. What 32" TV would you recommend that has been CONFIRMED to have less than 20ms of delay?
  2. If I go with a computer monitor (preferably one that is as close to 23" as possible) what one do you guys recommend?
  3. Is it possible to “Y-split” my HDMI from my PS3 to my TV AND a computer monitor (without losing picture, sound quality, etc.) so I don’t have to continually unplug the one HDMI from my TV to switch to the computer monitor?

Thanks in advanced guys!
