The New Definitive HDTV Lag FAQ

Sorry Majin. Here we go. And I assume you need a 60fps? (high shutter speed) camera, as it doesn’t explicitly say that.
Guitar Hero/Rock Band Calibration is second to that, but certainly not as good.

EDIT: Input lag program

You guys should check out this tv. Panasonic Viera TC-L37U3. I compared the specs with the famous and well praised Panasonic Viera L32C3 and they are almost identical. I might just pick up this tv instead. They sell it at Best Buy. I don’t know if this tv was tested or already put on here but there is just too much to read through.

We really can’t say for sure unless it’s tested. If you’re going for it, we would gladly appreciate a lag test if you wouldn’t mind.
Input lag is not a specification that’s handled by any manufacturer, so having identical other specs means nothing unfortunately.

Working on getting the results from my 27inch. Been sick as a shark.

The price for the 37 inch ended up being out of my budget so I got the Panasonic Viera L32C3 instead.

Quick question what exactly does game mode do and is it really beneficial to use it?

You have to do more than simply cloning screens, you also have to make sure that the image on the LCD monitor is unscaled (assuming you are comparing it to a CRT) because scaling increases input lag. Thing is, however, that how the screens get cloned is up to the videocard, it may not even refresh the screens at the same time, and is thus slightly unreliable.

On a slightly related topic, anyone tested the ASUS VE228H? LED Backlit, has a lot of good reviews.

ok, so lets say I have my evo monitor and I want to compare it to my asus ve27, whats the best method? Laptop, 1 through vga and one through Hdmi?

Didn’t Toodles have a way of testing delay on PCBs/controllers using VF5? Maybe that can be repurposed for this.

Wow but i’m confused in evo 2009 Daigo vs Justin Final they used the ASUS VH236H

Is there a list of all the monitors that have been tested along with their results? It would be nice to not have to dig through 75 pages to see if a monitor’s lag is already listed before I test it.

hdtv is something with a tv tuner.

hd monitor is something else.

Chances are, if it isn’t an EVO monitor, Panasonic 32’ Plasma, LG LD450 series, it hasn’t been tested. If you’re cool with testing, just ask about the model you’re interested in, and somone will say “i dunno” or “that has x amount of lag”

IIRC the best way is using a desktop with a graphics card w/DVI + 1xDVI CRT + 1xDVI test monitor using the method below through one DVI port.
The laptop test I linked earlier isn’t ideal re: cloning, but is still decent if your laptop has the same native resolution of the test monitor.

Google DVI splitter. It’s a DVI cable that connects to a single output on your video card, which then splits into two outputs. This is better than clone mode because it is all going through one output. The ideal way is to get a large CRT monitor (since it can handle ++resolutions) and compare it with the LCD/LED of choice.

There are VGA/hybrid versions of these as well, if that’s what’s needed. (DVI–>VGAx2, DVI–>VGA+DVI)

Thanks azproc. I’ll head to my comp shop in the morning and grab one of those.

uhhhh there needs to be a sticky or edited on the first post a list of confirmed lagless or near 1+ hdtvs

Isn’t just buying a VGA adapter a solution for most of these situations?

There are 75 pages. I suggest people “claim a page” and then compile a list of information regarding the TVs on that page, the lag it has, what tests were done on it (if any), and source of information. I’m willing to do a few pages if other people want to jump in on that. We can post the info and then the OP can edit it into the front page or whatever.

There are various exceptions where this isn’t the case. I’d imagine there are enough exceptions where it isn’t efficient to just tell everyone to buy a VGA adapter.

With all the suggestion questions, most answers seem obvious: get the evo monitor.
I got one, but when I get a new tv for the fam it would be nice to make it ok to play fighting games too.
I’d love a definitive answer from someone in the know: best option for a bigger hdtv (46" +) for fighting games?

When in doubt, go plasma?

If you can get an IPS panel based LG LD450, they go up to 47’; 16ms-32ms ~1-2 frames

Other than the legendary (and now difficult to find) Panasonic 32’, this statement is meaningless.
