I currently have a TX-L32V10E which has about 1-2 frames of lag, and that is still too laggy for me. As far as I know, there is no 32"+ consumer TV with less than 1 frame of lag apart from those elusive “digital signage” TVs mentioned in the first post, but I have no idea where to look for those over here in the UK.
If there are any other 1920x1080, 32"+ TVs that have been tested to have less than 17ms of lag please let me know!
Edit: Does the Samsung E77U series exist in Europe/UK under a different name?
If the source of your 19ms figure is hdtvtest.co.uk, I wouldn’t be so sure. Their input lag results are often wrong and usually smaller than the TV’s actual delay.
Came across this tidbit this morning:
INPUT LAG
Marca Model Standard Game mode
Sharp LC-22LE320E 17 ms 17 ms
Sharp LC-40LE820 140 ms 17 ms
Sharp LC-42SH7 30 ms 30 ms
Sharp LC-46LE810 143 ms 30 ms
Sharp LC-46LE820 100 ms 13 ms
Sharp LC-52LE820 143 ms 37 ms
Not at all. The LZ800, for example, one of the most responsive LCD TVs out there, does not have a game mode, nor do the G10/15 plasmas.
Hmm. The jump from 13ms to 37ms on the last two models indicates to me that the person who tested these just took one picture and considered that sufficient. This is purely speculation on my part though.
I picked up a 32" LG LD450 (which is currently the best 32"+ television option with respect to lag) and it still had enough lag to put me off. The lag was even more prevalent when I played online (TV lag + internet delay = yuck) to the point where I returned it and went back to my BenQ E2400 HD LCD screen. I’m sensitive to lag and it really annoys me.
After reading a LOT of information, reviews, lag tests, etc, I have nailed the best option down to these two:
I’m really liking the Viewsonic. 9.4ms is impressive and on par with my current BenQ E2400 HD. 24" is a good size, but I’d really like to bump things up to 27" if possible provided the lag doesn’t shit all over it. I just plain couldn’t be satisfied with the fastest 32" LCD TVs available right now as I’ve been spoiled by the E2400’s wicked response. Hence why I’m targeting 27" LCD panels right now.
Lastly, we have this little beast:
BenQ XL2410 (24", 5.6ms lag average, backlit LED, 120Hz)
BenQ’s new XL2410 LED screens. These are also 120Hz and make for a very nice image. Some guys I know have been using these for SSFIV and MVC3 and swear by them. The review above cites them as having exceptionally low input lag. The only bummer for me is that they are not 27" - they only come in 24" which is a shame. I figured this model was worth sharing as its apparently very nice to look at combined with having exceptionally low input lag.
Anywho. Thats where I’m at. In short, for input lag sensitive dorks like me, all televisions are shit. Period. No questions asked. They just just cut it. The next best thing if you want a size larger than 24" are those 27" screens cited above and for 24" you have the older BenQ 24" G series screens, the ‘EVO’ approved monitors from Asus or this nifty new 120Hz LED beast from BenQ.
If anyone else has anything additional to add with respect to 27" screens, I’d love to hear it. Right now though, I think those above are the pick of the bunch.
I just ordered the new LED version of the EVO monitor (VH238H) from Amazon.com and it should arrive in about a week. I’ll let you guys know if it’s as solid as the original (VH236H) when it comes.
I’ve gotten a chance to give the Viewsonic VX2739M a test drive and was impressed. While I could still feel a tiny bit of lag, it was still very smooth and felt slightly better than the Alienware AW2210. Unfortunately I don’t have a CRT to compare with to give hard numbers. I’m gonna give the Benq a try next and report back.
Yea I just reread the first post and it suggests that HD Fury is a completely viable solution. Is this in fact the case? I’ve held off on getting a new TV for a long time because I assumed there wasn’t such an easy solution.
So does HD fury(and the alternatives mentioned) take care of lag? If so why don’t people just do that? What is the downside(besides a little extra cash)?
How do you know if a TV’s VGA port has post processing?
Lastly assuming this is a solution, how should I set up everything? By this I mean what should my TV and PS3 be set to? (720p, 1080p). Please explain how to do this as well. I’m asking a lot but it takes forever to get a response in this thread.
If I were you I would test your vga port before you look at getting the hdfury. My Toshiba has lag through the vga port. So from my experience it’s not 100 percent guaranteed the vga port will be lag free although most times it is.
After playing with the XL2410T for a while I can say it’s the best of the monitors I’ve tried in terms of input lag. I got lucky also in that the one I got doesn’t appear to have any backlight bleed, which the Viewsonic had, and has the best blacks (the Alienware I got had ridiculously bad black level). However, I’ve heard complaints about quality control, so I can’t really recommend it as a primary computer/gaming monitor, since the Viewsonic is cheaper, bigger, and only negligibly slower.
