The New Definitive HDTV Lag FAQ

Anybody seen any lagless monitors on sale for Black Friday/Cyber Monday?

I’ve seen some ~22" monitors for around $100 but none of them have been tested.

Newegg is selling the 2009 EVO monitor (ASUS VH236H) for $129.99 after MIR + free shipping for today only. Make sure to use the code in the link below though.

ASUS VH236H Black 23"

So i plan on getting this EVO tv (ASUS VH236H Black 23") just wanted to know if it’s good enough to play other games like Call of Duty or other casual games. I’m just worried the screen is gonna be to small for those type of games.

As a Call of Duty enthusiast I can assure you that the VH236H is AMAZING for CoD. I’d say it’s perfect for ppl that like to play shooters. No lag and the graphics look beautiful on this screen. You can see everything clear as day.

Hi all –

Looking for a new monitor to plug my Xbox 360 into.

Deciding between:

LG W2442PA
Asus VH236H
Asus VW246H

Mostly an FPS gamer. Came here on a suggestion, since fighting games are the other genre that require as little lag as possible.

Willing to listen to other suggestions as well.

Thanks guys!

Edit: Also, how do I know if those monitors do “less postprocessing” on VGA than others (so the VGA input would have less lag)?

I just ordered an Asus VH236H a few mins ago. Also my Chun stick I ordered is hopefully on the way as well. Can’t wait! If you guys are still looking to get an Asus VH236H, better jump on it! You got about 30 minutes to buy it with Free Shipping and a $20 Rebate.

So, does anybody have any insight into this?

I have two Evo monitors now, so I really would like to figure this out.

As a fellow FPS gamer and VH236H owner, I have to vote for the VH236H. No lag and crystal clear graphics make it great for FPS games. You can make out every little detail on this screen, so you can take out distant enemies that probably can’t even see you

Asus MT276HE Input Lag

I got bored and decided to test my monitor for input lag. I figured I would post the results for anyone that?s interested. I’m not too sure on how to interpret the results, I assume you compare the brightest numbers in the picture. Maybe someone could enlighten me.

Game Mode:

Standard Mode:

Owning both the LG W2442PA and Asus VH236H myself I would recommend the Asus. I get some flickering on the LG that I don’t on the Asus when playing on the 360, it’s kind of a bother. If you plan on playing a PS3 on it at any point either the LG doesn’t scale as nicely IMO. It also has some dynamic contrast annoyances.

Speaking about lag though, they’re pretty much the same in that regard so you’re fine either way if you’re looking strictly at input.

So yeah, Asus VH236H gets my vote.

Guys, cam LCD lag due the manufactures defect?

Just bought VW246H. Looks like it lag a bit more than it should.

Make sure you have it in game mode and your system is putting out at 1080p. VW246H lags less than the VH236H according to internet tests. It’s also an inch bigger so it gets my vote for recommendation.

@DJ-Blitz: What you’re looking for is what is the latest number on each monitor. From what I see it looks like your LCD has 1-2 frames lag since it’s usually behind by 15-30 ms.

Dear poonage, I run a tournament in the ATL called Final Round and I plan on making that leap to buy a lot of monitors for FR14. I was wondering if these monitors are good quality to use for tournament play?

If anyone can answer this soon it would be great because I want to buy them soon.

Speaking of Shenmue 2 (and Black Ops).

Just want to know if the TC - L37x1 wont lag?? I found one on craiglist and wanted to be 110% sure. I researched the x1 series that on the panasonic website and the difference between the 32 and 37 is that the 32 has alpha ips panel and the 37 has just a ips panel. They both have the same description when they classify the panels on both which is IPS (WXGA) panel? Anyone plz give me some insight on this. Thank you in advance.

i have a question…

is there a way to get my dreamcast to connect to hdmi so that it doesn’t look like ass on my 1080p tv??

I just purchased the Samsung LN32C350 over thanksgiving weekend for my gaming setup and Im wondering if anyone else has this monitor or has heard any official numbers as far as the input lag is concerned. My initial feeling on it is that it definately lags even on game mode. While not overwhelminglty so, I feel it’s definately affecting my play; especially online for Black Ops, Medal of Honor and SFIV all of which I play very seriously. Im kind of paranoid about it though so I want to make sure it isn’t just my imagination. I also just got a Wii, so while I never played a Wii on CRT before, I can’t shake the feeling that it too is lagging and that some of the Wii Sports mini games feel off because of it (Frisbee seems extremely hard to get right for instance, and steering in the cycling mini game is seriously difficult to get right without steering myself off the course). Strangely enough though, I was still able to land many difficult combos in street fighter, although the game became noticeably laggier online than when I played on my SDTV, and it is unclear to me just how much timing adjustment I really did do to get the combos to land.

It’s too bad because the display is absolutely gorgeous (Medal of Honor looks particularly unbelievable on this display), and I was dissapointed in a previous HDTV purchase I made some time ago. Im starting to give up hope on finding an HDTV that will satisfy me, unless someone can recommend a 32" display that is perfect for gaming I might give up on HDTV’s completely.

Also if anyone has any reviews for the LN32C350 that show the input lag results definitavely for this screen I would be very appreciative. Thanks.

^ On the Wii I find it very easy to “feel” the lag on a display. There is absolutely no delay between moving your Wii remote and the cursor on the Wii menu, it should be instantaneous and it should feel like that. If there’s any sense of delay to your movement and the movement of the cursor on screen, there’s your lag.

But in general, Samsung TVs are known to have a couple frames of input lag no matter what.

A VGA box is your best route there. It’ll probably still look like ass being a 480p signal on a 1080p TV, but that’s the best you’re going to get.

No model number, but I got a 60" LED Samsung and woa boy does this fucker lag.

No game mode that I can find on this thing either
