Anyone get the chance to test that Hori Monitor that attaches to the PS3?

I bought that model of Bravia for my folks a couple of weeks back. While I haven’t taken the time to do any extensive testing (I just set it up for them and decided to dick around with some consoles while visiting), it does feel quite off to me. There is a “game mode”, but it’s more of a preset with audio options you can’t even change. Turning off stuff like NoiseReduction, MPEG Noise Reduction, and CineMotion seems to be the only thing that helps lag-wise, and while it still feels off, the difference is night and day. Both HDMI ports seem to have the same amount of lag, but there is a VGA port. The nice thing about the VGA port is that you CAN output your stuff through the display’s full native resolution, which is a plus compared to some other TVs that do not support the native res through VGA. Due to not having my Xbox 360 VGA cables with me though, I was unable to test VGA, but the reports I have heard don’t seem too promising. I toyed around with a PS3 and 360 through HDMI, as well as a PS2, Wii, GCN, and Xbox through component in 480i and 480p. 480i lags more than 480p, but you could have figured it out by now. This unit does NOT recognize a 240p signal in case you are curious to know.

As I’ve said prior, I haven’t had the time to do full-on testing, but there is definitely lag on the set. Personally though, I am not that much of a fighting game guy anyways, but I have kept close watch of the tech forum here for threads such as these which are quite helpful. I personally am more into platform games though, so when that feels off, then I can only imagine how bad it might be fighting-game wise. Overall though, 720p HDMI gaming is laggy, but serviceable if you are not too picky, 480p component feels laggier, but not by much surprisingly, and stay the hell away from 480i, on component OR composite. At near 500 smackers though, I’d honestly be hard-pressed to recommend this set to anyone gaming-wise, even though I am not a big time fighting game guy. If you are still interested in the set, I might be able to do some extensive testing on it soon, but I don’t see the point honestly, seeing how it feels quite off without it. I just feel that much better, readily-avaiable, and cheaper options exist, though sadly not at that size. :sad:

Thank you for your input. I am sorry for not thanking you earlier. My Grandma got me the Sony Bravia KDL32BX300. So since you said it lags what can I do to make it better?

I can’t play fighting games on the PS3 due to no internal hardware scaler and they’re all 720p. No lightning fast 720p to 1080p converters?

Man this is frustrating, cant find a 32" L32x1 panny…Any tips on how to find out besides online & craigslist. Are these still sold in stores?

Anyway, i really need a 32" LCD badly, recommend me some#1 priority is input lag & has to be LCD. Thanks

I’ve pretty much given up trying to get a hold of an x1. I went with the X2 since it was on sale in Costco at the time. I believe right now, for a 32" 60Hz tv, the best you can get and readily available models are the Sony BX300, LG LD350, Panasonic X2 (/X24). From the research I made, seems like the BX300 is the best choice of the three. I haven’t seen complaints about it. There are complaints about the LD350 having bad PQ and the X2 having “noticeable lag”. No real measurements on all three as of yet as well from AVSforums too.

Again, these are just the narrowed down choices for retail-available TV’s. Nothing new has come up and there should be enough time until these become discontinued like the X1 was.

Does anyone have any experience with the Samsung LE32C450 or LE32C530. hdtvtest.co.uk report them having 16ms and 14ms of input lag when compared to a lag free CRT. Although I don’t know how this compares to there U.S. counterparts which I assume are the LN32C450 and LN32C530.

I kinda find this hard to believe since sammy’s generally don’t have A-IPS panels and are notorious for input lag.

Edit: Seems AVS tested the 32" C530 at 15ms to 47ms, supposedly it’s similar in input lag to the LG D450’s but has a better picture quality.

Vaguely related, but has anybody had heard of reliable HDMI splitters with no lag for video and sound? I’m thinking of buying a extra Evo monitor for a H2H type of set-up during gatherings, but I have not been able to find HDMI splitters that people speak highly of. Most of them ones I’ve come across seem to lag or have loss in video/sound quality.

Not really, your input lag on PC is the USB polling rate which can be adjusted quite easily.

The default polling rate is 125hz (125 times per second, or roughly 1/2 of a frame) but can be adjusted to up to 1000hz (1000 times per second, or roughly 1/16 of a frame) assuming a 60FPS game.

Everything past there is post-processing on your monitor.

i bought a dvdo edge for my sony kdl40v4100 . unfortunately i dont have access to a camera to give a proper test (sorry). im just curious does anybody have hard numbers on how much the dvdo edge reduces lag . its subjective but i can hit links better with dvdo game mode on. but it could just be in my mind
