The New Condensed Ryu Matchup Thread

I actually used to lose to this a lot myself, not cause I dunno what to do, just cause it irritates the hell out of me lol. Im using the mentality of winning by not losing now, so if someone tries to do this i dont mind, cause there no way i can lose whilst theyre prancing about at the other end of the stage. Then ill slowly close the gap, being patient and totally safe, looking for them to take a risk in their pathetic “runa away” tactics and punish them for it. If i get one hit ill just sit at the other end of the stage myself and let the clock run down. I like to thnk that teaches them a lesson too (though thats probably a little optimistic lol).

oh n btw; I know that might sound really boring, and it is, but its also a great way of training. Last thing you want is to get pissed off in a tournament (LMAO - I know that better than anyone  ) If you get used to being extremely patient online it helps your patients offline and at tournaments too.

I always find it very ‘scrubbish’ when someone put himself directly in the corner with an too
obsious purpose like landing ultra 1 for Chun-li , Rose hoping your going to build her metter by throwing fireballs. Most of the Rog I play rush down.

If somebody wants to put himself in the corner just do lp dp 20 times in a row, they might realise your
ex builder is on streroid.

Only way that piss me off , hes when the other player is doing it to provoque me as a way of saying: look your offense is suck and I can stay here and beat you, you really suck…

Then I can start doing stupid mistake to prove that I dont suck. For some reason SSF4 bring my
ego out very quickly. Most of the games i ve played I usally play for the beauty and purity of it
and dont get mix up in the ego thing. I hope to reach this zen state in SSF4 too, usually come
with confidence and winning.

Its funny how sometimes I have this interne diaglogue that dosent correspond to reality, I get beat
and I am angry and I see the headline of a new message in my messages box. Headline goes; your ryu… Now I am really angry , I am preparing my asnwer to this moron , but a new battle start.
I lose again. Now I am really determined to take it out on the guy who just wrote me.

open message: Your Ryu is very good man, gg . LOL

yeah it honestly shouldn’t be a problem and ik i can deal with it in tournament but online it just seems so dumb lool, i definitely should work on the patience aspect of this game

Can somebody tell me how U2 of Blanka work. The little experience I have against it, I always get hit

^ has two active parts (check frame data im not sure on details.). Anyway, when they have U2 I do one of two things. Firstly, if I can take the chip I just block. otherwise I stay in jump range, block the first hit then jump on them and combo. Im presuming you mean the horizontal one, the otehr one is just AA so dont jump lol.

oh the aa one beats meatys too lol

anyone else seen Dhalsim match-ups thread? Its just one kinda hub thread linking to all matches. Seems pretty cool. might be a good way to organise things.

Thanks a lot.

uhhhh… Hakan is so weird. Been playing him today. I got double perfected by an average rank Seth then beat a 15000bp 3500pp Ryu… ?!

Can you tell me more about the rating system Darth. How much PP and BP should I have with my Ryu to consider I am getting strong.

For now I feel I am better than players with 2000 PP and less, and I feel a 3000 PP + players is more experienced than me.
For BP i dont really understand sometimes playing 10 000 BP + players that are not really good when its combined with low PP.

What the equivalent between Vanilla and Super. When I played Vanilla last time a 2000 rating player really feel hopeless. Feel like
a 500 PP on Super. any toughts

^ hmmm… Well my personal opinion would be that you need to hit 4000PP to consider yourself strong (and even then its not great, just pretty good). Im not there myself yet TBH but then, I dont actually play on my main account, Ive been using other characters for quite a while now and only using Ryu in Endless. Id say that when I use random characters I can go 50/50 with a 3000pp player simply by sticking to basics : using my random character’s best pokes, being patient, punishing stupid shit, maybe the occassional B&B combo and decent teching.

BP is BS IMO. I play A ranked peeps who are trash. The Ryu I played yesterday was A rank (around 15k BP I think) and I beat him with Hakan after 1 hour (and Hakan is a) trash and b) very hard to get good with).

I shouldnt take Vanilla’s ratings to mean anything. I was on 58000 and I wouldnt consider myself good at that time.

Anyway, yeah, its all about PP IMO. And 4000 is good, not great. Anything above 5000 is very good.

You should be able to beat peeps with at least 3000 TBH Pieton. Why dont you try posting some videos of your Ryu Vs a 3000 PP+ player? Im sure myself and the other good members here will be able to help you out and at least get you above the 3000 mark.

TBH you should be able to get there with just good defense and punishing stupid shit. After playing Sim I have to say that patience really is the key. It seems 90% of players dont adapt. I can recall a time when I played a Ken (around 3300 PP i tihnk) with my Sim. After I hit some solid pokes and did some good FB zoning he decided to jump. I anti-aired him. I KNEW he was gonna jump again and he was waiting for my FB. I just sat there. For 30 seconds I sat there and did nothing and in the end he still decided to jump and got anti-aired. It kinda made me think about a player’s adaptiveness. This Ken was hella patient, seriously, its not often a Ken sits there for 30 seconds, yet even he wouldnt adapt and still jumped in the end. Meh, I dunno what point Im making here, but it was really interesting.

My overall point in regards to your question : if you cant beat 3000pp players theres something wrong with your defense. A lot of the posts you make are about combos n shit. Do you try to focus too much on getting damage? Cause seriously, as nice as combos are, there is no more important skill than defense. With Ryu, if you can zone properly with FBs and C.MKs you will get more than enough oppurtunities to punish without taking too many risks . Your only real danger then is when they get in close. Thats when you need toknow how to tech and block overheads. Think about it, if you can tech and block overheads, WTF is the opponent gonna hit you with? Maybe some very advanced frame-traps, but thats above the 3000PP level were talking about. so yah, post some vids up and I suspect you need to look at defense.

EDIT : Just want to clarify that when I said “good members of the forum” I meant those who contirbute. Wasnt reffering to SF skill in any way,

Well, I guess I have big leaks in my game that I am not sure or aware of.
This is my first figthing game, I may be lacking some fundamentals and experience that returning SF players have.

I am stuck at 2000 PP, but at least I am staying there

Half of the mistake I make in a game can be inputed on lag. I have enough experience to know why
I drop my combo, didnt anti-air in time etc.
Sometimes its ridiculous cant punish a Flash kick in time, Ex tatsu ultra in the corner miss by like a mile ( 100% in dojo easy)

I am sure I cant inputed all my lost on lag, there must be some obvious and basic mistake i make.
Perhaps my defense and techking throw is a little weak.

I guess the best way to improve would be to post videos of myself playing

So how does it work to uploaded video ? Do I have to open a special account on Youtube , what kind
of camera do you recommand. The camera on my phone was sugested previously , but I would like to have
at least decent quality images.

^ meh, TBH the camera doesnt matter. Its not like were filming a movie here (and hell, as an actor I can honestly say even a lot of movies are made off shit cameras so for SF it means nothing lol). Hell, if you have a webcam just use that. Myself and most other non-troll peeps on here really wont give a shit. so long as we can see the basic stuff going on then fair enough.

My honest advice to anyway stuck around 2000pp or less would be that it has absolultely nothing to do with your punishes, your combos or w/e. Hell, I can pick a random character and still be above 2000pp. Im not saying that as ego, Im saying that to make a point, which is…

Why can I play as a character I know absolutely nothing about and still beat an average 2000pp player…

Fundamentals. Space. You have to understand the importance of space in fighting games. 99% of players that you will meet online simply are not aware of space. Theyre general thought is “oooooh, I wanna get in close cause I know I can hit a big juicy combo from up close”. My response? Ill keep you at the optimum range for whatever randomly selected character im using.

GRRRR im anoyed because Ive just written this response 10 times and I cannot find the right one. Ummmmm… meh, i cant say it. Do this 1 thing which I promise you will improve you game a LOT. Go create a new PSN account… your mission? Use C.MK. You are not allowed to use anything else. You can punish people with whatever combo you want, but you have to punish their mistakes. All you do is walk in and out of C.MK range, hit that poke a lot and see how they react. With very very few exceptions (in terms of character) your opponent will have to take risks to beat properly used C.Mks. all you do is punish their efforts to beat C.MK. I know this might sound dumb. I know it might sound too simple to be true, but try it. Just keeping your opponent either at or outside of C.MK range and punish everything they do to get past that. This will teach you Ryu’s first fundamental

  1. Do the same with FBs.

You know the amount of threads that are created about how cheap Ryu is? theres a reason. the reason is that the best Ryu users in the world win because of their use of these 2 moves. Daigo has made himself possibly the best SF player ever because he uses C.MK and FBs so well. He zones the shit out of everyone and punishes their efforts to beat that zone. you wanna be the best Ryu? Force yourself to use only these moves and punish every effort the opponent makes to get past them.

As soon as Ryu users realise that Ryu is not easy and is not cheap but IS minimal because of the potential of C.MK and FBs, they will up their game 10 fold. Truth is that Ryu IS one of the hardest characters to use, but he is hard because instead of learning a shit load of combos and mix-ups and BS you have to know how to use 2 moves perfectly.

uhhhhh psn too good man lol

^ Thats not “Gameinn” (Daigo) its Gameinn-1, who is a scrub, I kicked his ass with both my Ryu and Abel (after using Abel for like a day).

dude ik thats not daigo lol both of them are ass rank and i have no idea how that one dude had 6600 pp i guess boosting is too good

**I have couple of questions about the match up vs Guile: **

-Can you punish Guile target combo ( that hit low than overhead) in between or on block ?

-I usually just srk when he goes for his unsafe sweep ( or ultra) . Is it possible to land a Focus crumple or Focus throw
it and land a bigger combo ? and if so what kind of range and what conditions are necessery

-Is it possible to jump reaction over a boom and land a combo or its just a guess ?

-From up close do you have time to focus throw a boom and punish ? if so from what range. Or it it better to go for a counter hit Focus

-About his ultra 2 : If he does from a certain range I know I can jump over it. What the best solution when I am a little further.
I remember trying to reverse ultra but it seem unreliable or Tatsu…

-Is it normal I keep missing my cross up after a block string, it seem it often whiff on a crunch Guile ?

Thx for your answers.

Dont take this the wrong way but…have you heard of training mode?

it’s a target COMBO. you have to block low first than high. no you can’t mash…

you can focus the first leg and then release the FA for the focus crumple before the second leg hits. you can mash srk or ultra. that’s it.

you have to guess because the recovery is gay. if you jump over the sonic boom as soon as you see it, Guile already recovered and you eat a cr.HP.

it’s almost impossible, you shouldn’t be really using FA against Guile, other than the sweep crumple there’s no point. You probably gonna eat a turn punch or flash kick or get thrown.

if you are outside the U2 range, HK tatsu is the best punish. if you are close, mash ex-srk to get it out as soon as you can. (I personally don’t like that chip damage.)

don’t jump on guile unless you read a sonic boom or you have an untechable knockdown.
yes you miss because the hit box is gay/ wrong spacing / this game is gay.

and this
