The New Condensed Ryu Matchup Thread

I have troubles against Hakan due to his slide, if I hado or step forward I eat a slide, any tips for ground game?

So, this thread is lacking many characters correct? And there’s another matchup thread that is equally lacking as well it seems. Am I just missing something? I’m trying to get some info on Ryu v. Adon cause he’s wooping me. Help for a beginner please?

This thread was made to coincide with the original SF4. Since the release of Super, I’ve been working on an updated version, but it will take a bit of time. The discussion on that can be found here:

Please explain, i have never heard these shortcuts.

by cWK he means C.LK, so C.LK, C.LP, S.LP, C.MK ~ C.LK (though personally I would use C.FK for untechable knockdown).

In case you meant that you didnt understand plinking - just hit C.MK immediately followed by C.LK (so youre virtually hitting the buttons at the same time). Creates two inputs for the C.MK giving more chance of hitting the combo.

So his keyboard is broken or something? thnx for explanation, i know what plinking is, i was just curious about the “w”. “w” ftw !

he means standing windkick of course

W = Weak, weak punch, weak kick.

Well I thought is was more likely youd not know what plinking was than not being able to work out what ‘W’ in WK might stand for… anywho…

where are the matchups for the new characters from SSF4?

Shinkazuya: i wrote the matchups on the other thread not all though but deejay and dudley

thanks buddy!

I have couple of questions in the match up vs Chun li.

-When I miss my anti-air I end up blocking a jump in of Chun li , most of them
go for the double air attack that hit 2 times, follow by some kind of blockstring and
The kick with fire. Is it safe at the end with the fire kick or its somehow reversible.

-Can auto-correct DP when Chun do her weird cross up thing. For some reason her cross up
give me hell of trouble. Some advice appreciate.

-Is the Hasensu ( the overhed thing) safe on block , sometimes it seem I can c.mk sometimes not. Does it have to do with spacing.

^ Chun has a fire kick?! o_0 what the hell is her fire kick? oh wait you mean Legs? If so it depends what version she does and again the spacing. I wouldnt suggest trying to reversal this though TBH.

Auto correct flip kick…? Ummm… I just hit SRK real late and it gets her. Dont think its auto-correct thogh.

again, hazanshu on block may or may not be safe dependant on spacing. If shes really close then you can hit her. not with C.MK though, unless some noob is using the MK Hazanshu… ummm… you need a 4 frame punish. So you can super all hazanshus, you can SRK if close and thats about it. Her start-up on this is mega slow though so just SRK if youre not fireballing, or even better focus attack it (FA has to be on predict though)

Chun li you pretty much just get into sweep range and abuse focus attack or space her out and throw hados depending on situation. She doesn’t really have a great answer to Ryu’s focus fishing. Hazanshu has almost half a second startup, you should be punishing them for doing it at all. If they are trying to do it over fireballs, just mash dp in your fireball recovery, either they did it right and will hit you or you will punish them for doing it. Lightning legs isn’t punishable on block.

Hazanshuu isn’t that easy to reaction DP, especially the weak kick version.

I have question about the Zangief match up. I am thinking about this since I saw Daigo destroy
couple of them in his latest exibition.

Do we get a Safe jump after a sweep.
What are we looking to get out of this safe jump because I dont think we can start messing
around too much at close range with him. So is it more like do a safe block string to build metter
and jump back.

On wake up vs Zangief what is he trying do to:

Online people seem to either Lariat me to beat my wake up Shoryuken , as I understarnd I have to block
then punish.

Vs cross up mk , auto correct DP seem easy vs him.

What are the other mind game on my wake up , I rarely play this match up and I am at
a loss when knockdown.

I appreciate your input

it’s 23 frames startup, if people are just sitting there and throwing out random light hazanshous at you and not getting punished then you’ll have a hard time with this game

pieton:
I’ve looked at your question like 5 times and almost answered, but part of it is pretty tough. They easy part is that yes, you can safe jump off sweep. Lariat is 4 frames startup so you’ll get a counter hit if they reversal lariat. The bad thing is that if they block (which they should) then they have a better point blank mixup than you do.

On your own wakeup, they really should be doing jump light kick (the knees) most of the time against you and it beats reversal dp. However, if you have the ex you can go for it. Basically just block and jump away seems the safest thing to do for me. Block then neutral jump punishes throw or SPD, but if they don’t do those then you get a lariat and another mixup. I don’t remember the last Daigo v zangief I saw, but I imagine he simply just avoids getting knocked down. I think Ryu really has the tools to completely lock Gief out, but if you mess up you can get crushed for it.

without EX metre you get safe jump yeah, but EX SPD will beat safe jump. EX is also the real problem on your strings. Youre always gonna take that chance of him hitting EX SPD and theres no way you can protect yourself from it for certain. If he doesnt have EX then youre just looking at never leaving more than a 2 frame pause so you dont get SPDd . Obviously you can bait SPDs and punish the shit out of them with neutral jumps, though that is hella risky. TBH, if I were playing this match seriously, Id use the jump-in VS a Gief with no EX only (sure you might score some damage, but if he hits that 1 EX SPD you could lose the round from 1 mistake). Plus you dont really need to pressure him that much. Just keep him out. Saying that though, one thing I do quite a lot VS a Gief is just walk up throw on wake-up (its the absolute last thing they expect. If you walk up to them theyre thinking “hes baiting SPD imma just block” then you throw them. OBVIOUSLY a big ass risk though).

Firstly yahm Daigo would just stay the fock out and base any reversal SRK off of precise spacing (you can tell when they jump if youll be able to SRK from the space or not. Or rather, its possible to tell, if youre Daigo lol). Basically what you need to know is the exact timing for 1) the jump attack (if you hit jump-back at the right time youre OSing between blocking the jump attack and jumping backwards when he empty jumps). anything else is hella risky. He can OS VS backdash, can empty jump SPD, basically can do whatever the hell he wants. Put simply, there is no easy answer here, theres no safe way out (if there were it would be really really unfair on Gief). I suggest going to training room, practicing your timing VS the jump, using that escape OS, and other than that youre looking at mindgames in which he has the clear advantage.

boring ass chuns, rogs, and roses give me trouble :frowning:
i understand the match ups for the most part but its just boring lol.

oh and for hasanshus u can focus dash in on reaction and punish with cr strong x2 cr forward xx tatsu, if u have trouble with that combo u can always do something like cr jab x2 cr fierce to whatever as well

and…apparently i cant deal with full screen turtling, it makes no sense to me and i end up playing stupid and just jump loool…
it becomes very sad for my bp/pp as if that matters
