The New Akuma Match-up Thread *Recent Update*

I found out something cool myself. I don’t know if you guys will believe me but here it goes: you can combo an HP.SRK off a lk.tatsu. Crazy right?

give the guy a break… he is obviously new to the game or the character (probably the game since almost ANYONE’S ultra beats ryu’s at close range). Its not like there is that type of info on the front page for him to compare with. But I will say that you can also demon through a ryu super when they try and punish a sweep with the demon too… though I’m not sure if you are versed enough to know that akuma can demon during any frame of his normals.

edit: as for run away akuma you can very easily FA dash through the fireballs and punish with a sweep or a c.mk FADC combo (remember… though he looks like ryu’s frame its actually bigger and hk stuff is pretty easy on him sans loop). Then just taunts in the opposite corner until time runs out waiting for the inevitable demon flip towards you and srk FADC shaku then then option select demon (you’ll likely have ultra from all the FA…lol). Probably my favorite option select demon on akuma is the cross-tatsu demon because you can time it to be reactionary instead of a real option select REAAALLLY easily (at least for me…) so that if you land the tatsu you have all the time in the world to react (same if blocked) and can ultra him rather easily. Started doing that about 6 months ago and it seems to have caught on with a LOT more ppl. Really all it should take is one unteachable knockdown and you can get all the damage you need on a run-away akuma to make them stop running away (which they will probably suck at if they are an actual runaway akuma) or run out the clock. Also… another fun one to do is to learn to FA through fireballs and buffer the ultra during the dash. Depending on the range of the fb you are dashing through and if it was a tiger or not you’ll catch them easily every time (and because you just FA your ultra will be that much stronger).

akuma v akuma really should be a footsie till knockdown match with some wake-up teleports but a lot more block correctly then spam teleport to avoid tick throws and such (but not TOO much or they’ll at some point expect it and mash out a demon and catch it. Also… ryu’s and sagats do it… I REALLY don’t know why more akuma’s don’t EX SRK through jump-towards air fbs. Its not like akuma can’t spare a meter to do damage, avoid a teleport punish/block fb mix-up/combo, and get a knockdown.

Who do you think is akuma’s worst/hardest matchup?

I would have to say C.Viper but that’s just me, i don’t come across many good c.vipers, but when i do i get double perfected :frowning:

hardest for me are chun and honda. blech, cant focus chun cant jump on honda.

For me it’s Boxer with a life-lead (worst case = life-lead + ultra available). I have no clue what to do against him offensively in that case. As soon as he gets a c.LP in it’s easy hitconfirming into headbutt -> ultra and it’s over.
A good Rufus gives me trouble, too. His combos do insane damage to Akuma. Luckily, there ain’t very much players with a good Rufus on GFWL.

For me that is not luck, but the worst case scenario. If you don’t even have enough players for ypu to learn the matchup online, it’ll get even harder if you face any of them in a tournament scenario.

First I’ll never get to a tournament scenario. These days are over. Just a fun-player now.
So I don’t care if I still have a lack in one certain matchup that only a few people play good. Second I didn’t say that there is no good Rufus at all. Only “not very much”.
And u can’t tell me that on consoles for every (!!!) char u got a lot of very good players online so u got all your matchups equally spreaded…
So is it a worst case scenario? Clearly not. Time will tell the matchup. Thats all.

Another hard matchup for me has been Dhalsim. But I did improve on that and now know, when to approach him and what his options are.
Same as Blanka. After getting the matchup down he is one of the easiest characters to fight against now, imho.

Ever play a sick Fei long? I did and it ain’t fuckin pretty.

Anyways the toughest mathup for me is Rufus. Make two mistakes and its all she wrote.

Second is gouken. a complete counter style gouken is an absolute nightmare.

Viper of course is never easy.

I’ve never had trouble with a counter-happy Gouken. You bait him and punish. Viper and Rufus are my worst matchups by far. Against people who have their execution down, 1 confirmable hit and you’re down 50% life.

IMO it all boils down to player styles and knowing the matchups. At first I use to get destroyed by Gief. Now Gief is more or less a punching bag. That said IMO Chun and Rog are my worst matchups. Chun speed and pokes when in close completely nulls anything Akuma tries. Rog easy jab-headbutt-ultra is game changing and ending against Akuma.

Against Rufus, air fireballs is godly. And spaced ground fireballs will keep Honda at bay for mixups.

Just a quick one.

After you have sucessfully blocked Cammy’s Ultra, what is the best punish if you don’t have Ultra?

st.hk into bnb

Akuma’s Ultra almost always beats out Ryu’s Ultra. Just set a Ryu computer on hardest and wait for a random Ultra. If you are somewhat close you can always grab him before you get hit.

Demon also beats Ryu Super also. Basically if demon is already in flight it will beat both Ryu wake ups except tatsu and shoryu. Super and Ultra are free demon.

Vs Super it gets a little messy, but it can be beat.

Question:

How do you guys “chase” or get in close to characters exactly, mainly ones who are meant to be played in a turtly fashion like dhalsim/guile etc. For some reason sometimes nothing works unless they make a mistake and I get lucky, for the rare few good players online who do use their mains well i just cant seem to break them.
Its something i need to work on more, and no i dont just randomly throw out flips etc.

Another thing, does anyone ever play offensively vs blanka? if so…how…? lol.

I’ve been dashing then performing c.mk xx hk tatsu.

Otherwise dash, c.hk.

Cross him up with j.lk and lead into any hit-confirmable combo applicable to him standing or crouching.

Also, whiffed demon flip palm is ideal to bait EX upballs which can then be punished. The idea here is to train him not to EX upball you when you jump in allowing you to effectively secure free jump-in opportunities on him when he’s knocked down thereafter. This then leads into flip mix-ups, tick throws, etc.

Re: Getting close in general, its often a patience thing. I find if I get impatient, I get dumb. When I get dumb, I die. This is particularly applicable to Dhalsim. Wait for an opening or knockdown and then stay in his face.

hmm, i thought electricity spam would rape any type of crossup i would attempt. I’ll have to try that in training, thanks.

It likely does. I know Ken’s j.lk beats it, but I haven’t tested Akuma’s enough to confirm.
