Messed up first post :badboy:
Basically with Sagat, you have to start a fireball war first and let him come to you…If you score a knockdown, let vortex begin…Basically try to anticipate his jump in over light air and ground hadoukens and DP… Pressure a knockdown sagat with fireballs into demon flip mixups…mix EVERYTHING UP with blockstrings cancel demon flip grabs etc…and look for what works…Cross up tatsu’s work really good with him as well. And basically HK rapes sagat in a nutshell…Importantly while demon flip dive kicking, try to aim above his head and a little towards his back so his DP’s will not hit… If you dive kick towards the front, you’ll get the DP ultra special.
As for Vega…After his backflip, If you time it correctly you can demon on reaction if you see it, but the akuma must grab him right at the end of the animation or he’ll be able to escape.
Secondly, you can also punish it with standing HK…most likely you’ll get the last hit of it…Which is better than nothing against vega considering how much dmg he takes esp with his mask off.
Hope this helps
I got some videos like i said i would. there are a few online now, a few that will come online throughout the next few hours, and more that i will upload tomorow. the link to my account is http://www.youtube.com/user/malakyoma#g/u. please let me know where i can improve and where im doing things wrong (aside from combos which i havent practiced in too long -_-). i really need help with the ryu matchup.
Hey thanks for the info there
Is it just me or is fighting Blankas online beyond retarded? I mean he will counter hit me on EVERYTHING with that stupid ass sweep of his, and his electricity stuffs everything in a demon flip? wtf.
Yeah man blanka is a tough match for akuma…Do not demon flip unless it’s following air fireballs…Though EX upballs will greet you anyways…I have trouble with that matchup as well
I find that sticking to Akuma’s normals to be reliable in thwarting Blanka, just be conservative, patience is something I had to learn.
I’m starting to encounter lots of Vega’s (Claw), and I am getting smashed up badly. I get out poked when I try to approach him on the ground and I find an aerial bombardment yields pain for Akuma. If I hang back he flies across the screen, and I don’t really have an answer for it. There must be a strategy or dealing with him @_x’
I dont have much experience against vega but i did play as him for a little while. what happened to me against akuma was that whenever i tried to do the wall jump i just got SRKed. Block his pokes and if he tries to finish with the roll you can actually SRK before it ends. just some advice from my experience, other vegas may not play like i did.
I think Akuma is a bad match for Vega hes gotta work twice as hard as you do to get the win. I play a really good Vega allot (hes a local) and I can usually come out on top. His mixups are crazy but the flying claw thing, you can do a mesxican uppercut (C.HP) and stuff it 100% of the time. Be careful with this though because a good Vega will figure out that you are going to stuff it and switch to the grab. Also, YES you can ultra that flying claw I?ve done it plenty of times, Learn to anti air demon. Be very careful with his pokes though he?s got TONS of range and they hurt! Ill post up some of the vids against Vega for reference so you know what I mean.
Yeah but i came across some pretty good vegas online recently, and i got owned the first few matches and then i started beating them slowly.
Basically what works best for me is patience, ones that tend to use the walljump and the crossup claw thing (i have no idea what its called, but it hits you on the back after they walljump), i always counter these with cr.hp or srk, but you need to time the cr.hp a bit better. Also what works is jumping back and hp/hk right while they are flipping off the wall, be careful though because it might be an ultra and i have fallen for that sometimes as i try to react as soon as they hit the wall and thats when their ultra animation goes off.
For pokes, vegas crouching claw attacks outpoke akuma almost every time, i just block them all instead of trying to counter poke because i always get stuffed. They usually resort to slide which i sweep, then they backflip on wakeup which i try to punish with roundhouse into bnb, but doesn’t always work.
Other than that I’m still working on my vega matchup, but still hating on blanka
i dont want to say to not sit back and be patient because there are times in this match where you need to but for the most part you need to keep heavy presure on him. dont give him a second to breath. the more presure on him the more mistakes he will make or the more desperate he will be to get away. if you see him flip back go for a quick poke into bnb. if you see him fliip back twice go for a meaty S.HK into bnb. if you see him wall jump. DONT jump to try and poke him out of it, you have allot more options and he usualy has more priority than your pokes. teleporting is your best friend.
as for blanka, i hate this matchup because he just has silly mixup capabilities. learn to deamon his balls and be patient
Hello All. Pretty sure no one has talked about this, but if its old news I apologize.
LK Tatsu > HK Tatsu
Found a new mix-up option that I haven’t seen used much (probably because it’s unreliable and their are infinitely better things to do). Anyway, after LK Tatsu you can combo a HK Tatsu for two more hits and you end up on the other side of them at the last second. Usually they will quick-stand and will not realize that you’re on the other side, making them open for the heavy damage combos (very Sakura-like). I interchange this tactic with the Tatsu > Sweep option. Especially against characters you can’t Tatsu > Sweep, as I’m positive this works on everyone although the timing is wierd. Besides, even if you miss it, you’re far enough away to not get punished.
Just wondering what you guys think of throwing this in the mix-up every once in a while. It might even help you with those spamming SRKers.
Hope this works out. I enjoy using it.
mhhhhhhhhhh i can imagine it right now. u do a lk tatsu, miss the hk tatsu and you’re up against a ryu. He quick stands, and shoots off a shinku hadouken and you die. Or a sagat kara tiger knees, or kara tiger uppercuts. I say practice it or else I would actually advise against it.
All too true. None of us want to give Sagat or Ryu a chance at a free ultra or super.
Still, the point of using it is because you know you can hit with it. It’s not ambiguous (It hits %100 of the time) and it’s not a critical situation move, just one to throw out during your vortex and hopefully your opponent falls for it. Kinda like the (I saw Ed Ma first do it) LK Tatsu > c.MP (reset), Demon Flip Grab. Not really the best thing to do damage wise, but it works and now everyone does it (It also gets SRK stuffed more often).
Just trying to add another option to pull out of our bag of tricks. As most all new combos and BnB finishers surface, this comes with a “Use at your own risk” label.
You could say exactly the same about doing a shoryuken…
I fought a fair share of ryus today and i was wondering, is there anything you can do on their wakeup that is safe? Every time i would try to cross up tatsu it would get stuffed by a srk, crossups would get stuffed, demon flip was ok i guess because i could use the throw quite a bit which sometimes stuffs reversal srks. I was too scared to try and walkup throw because i don’t know if i would take a srk in the face or not. What do you guys usually do against ryu on wakeup? the only thing i kinda found effective was neutral jumping and ex air fb and pressuring him from there.
Also what can you punish a blocked tatsu with? for some reason when he tatsus and i block it all, i would try to srk but sometimes it would hit and sometimes he would block
You could go for EX srk and focus cancel it for chip, you can try cross up tatsu but if it gets stuffed remember that and try to mix it up, you could do a purposely short demon flip palm and if they try to srk you, punish them with whatever you have at the time, and if you are getting srked out of cross ups ur doing it too early try to wait a bit longer. What you found effective is good you could also benefit from the cross up air fireball try it out. As for the tatsu block that shit low and cr.Fierce cause for some odd reason ryu is gay with his tatsu too. If you tried to srk and it hit you either got him on his start up, or he threw something out and you hit him, he can block if you are mashing the srk you have to time it why I have no clue. Also you can demon him on his recovery.
Cross-up with j.lk and then go into any applicable hit-confirm depending on whether they are crouching or standing.
I also sometimes intentionally whiff hammerfist from demon flip as they are waking up to bait an uppercut. If they don’t perform an uppercut, lead in with a c.lk, c.lp, c.lp, etc. Alternatively, grab or get ready to tech.
Other options include faked focus, an SRK you can cancel out of if they don’t eat it, stand over 'em and backdash, stand over them just outside of grab range and see what they do, etc.
its very tough to get the timing right for a lot of the mixups suggested above although all plausible. The biggest problem i have with ryu on wakeup is calling whether hes going to DP or if hes going to grab. try sitting just outside his grab range and bait a shoryuken. If he tries to grab then you can counter, but if he DPs then block it and go into a BnB. I still have major problems with ryu up close though, and i find its best to throw fireballs and wait for him to come to you, and when you do knock him down sometimes, instead of a mixup, its better to simply get back into a safe fireball range.
Yeah, i have the same problem too, i find that trying to rush him usually makes me end up dead if i make a mistake or 2. Waiting for him is much more effective.
Most other times other than dp/grabbing i find that most ryus either start randomly jabbing or poking on wakeup, just to push me away while i block.
You disgrace the name of Akuma with your cowardness. Seriously, mixing up Ryu ain’t that hard, and not doing so is bad, and you should feel bad.
