The New Akuma Match-up Thread *Recent Update*

i needed this.

Thanks for this thread. I have been having a hard time with matchups since im starting to learn how to play with akuma. Especially sagat. I already see some improvements. Not where i wanna be yet but i see progress. Thanx again

Wouldn’t you want to stay away when she doesn’t have Ultra and then get in that ass when she does?

Honestly, Blanka: Down-back.

Play reactionary and punish, don’t give in to attempting an offense and taking risks. SRK jump-ins and ball, c.hp crossups, zone when appropriate. ultra blocked ball is a must. stay grounded, and remember the only ball that armor breaks is horizontal, others are pretty free to focus and punish.

Its boring, but it gets the job done. Also, pick Honda. :stuck_out_tongue:

Bokkin & Duggish,

much respect for pulling together that Bison info. It definitely helped me a ton. Now one thing that I haven’t see too much of is Gen info and Viper as well. Do you know of anyone that could give some good input on those match ups? Thanks in advance.

Don’t get me wrong, I still get in there when I can, but I usually don’t pressure as much and wait for her to get twitchy, maybe get her to jump the gun and use her ultra for nothing, then punish her with my ultra. Usually, when she has ultra, she’ll be looking to punish any projectile you throw, so don’t, but make her THINK you will.

Alright guys, I have an important match against a Honda tomorrow.

Any tips? I read the OP, so I’ll definitely try to let Honda start the offense and react to what he does. Just wanna know any specific stuff to help me out.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

guys, for those whom have watched tokido vs oshino matches

can anyone explain why does tokido lp into heavy demon flip grab after loop, sweep?

i am assuming.

if sagat stays still = air grab
0:28 reference:

if sagat backdash = air grab whiff option select demon/heavy kick loop
0:31 reference:

if sagat lp uppercut = whiff
0:19 reference
1:09 reference

and its extremely hard for sagat to do delay uppercut on this situation.

what do you guys think? have anyone else tested this out?

so far i’ve tested out enough, but i can’t confirm 100% yet. as this might have to be done in the fastest timing possible and little mistake can screw the result.

btw, anyways to make sure that after c.hk that my demon flip dive won’t trade with uppercut? i get TU’ed 2/3 of the time…and it trades with sagat Roundhouse into ultra.

 • Honda rules the air
 • Don’t fireball when Honda has Super. He can reactively hit you at full screen clean
 • Block and punish butt slams with hp srk. Keep a couple stocks on hand in the event you fuck this up.
 • lp air fireball at the last second lest you eat a head butt. It is still risky however, but a good way to buy spacing
 • Ultra Honda’s blocked Ultra
 • Honda’s hitbox is quite low. Keep this in mind as it makes some jump in attempts to require a bit more precision.
 • Be careful with focus attacks. Headbutt smashes them and can be pulled off reactively easily
 • Careful with tick throws. Rather than tech, good Hondas will simply EX headbutt you
 • Watch the range of his standing hp. 130 damage, 140 on counter. This can make footsies and pokes tricky.
 • In general, play cautiously. Honda is manageable, but he is VERY strong. It doesn’t take many hits for Honda to knock you out.
 • Careful with fireball hurling spacing. Honda has good jumping normals (j.hp) which will cleanly snuff your fireball attempts much like Boxer can via a well spaced jump-in.
 • When Honda descends from a jump, I get good mileage by sneaking in a lk or mk demon flip grab. Don’t get predictable with this, but its worth trying on a couple times.

He probably does the jab to set up the correct timing.

Well if Tokido is using this tactic there really isn’t any testing needed. It works.

You need to press kick as the flip is about to end. Simply put you’re pressing kick to early, making the dive kick land too close to Sagat’s front.

Thank you!

Alright guys im having issues with my friend who plays ryu. Ill try to upload videos of us playing soon but right now its just annoying me that i cant leave the ground ever. my entire match boils down to zoning and footsies since i cant safe jump. when i get him in the corner i use the same tactics i read in the footsies article and poke with c.mk to EX hado and such. I shoryuken all his jumps, but strangely enough he’ll spin kick and i wont react fast enough. some pointers for a ryu match would be greatly appreciated (I’ve read the first post). its just getting annoying now since i believe im the better player but ryu is a beast.

Yeah man I know what you mean…

Basically Akuma’s main game is diminished drastically…The demon flip is useless in a lot of situations.

…What helped me a lot is neutral jumping and safe jumping/demonflip palm strikes…A lot of Akuma players have a tendancy to jump back and fireball which will get you hit by a fireball spamming ryu…

Akuma has to do a lot more work to win this match…Akuma needs to be patient and wait for a knockdown . You can do this by waiting patiently after ryu throws a fireball and EX demon flip grab…And do not go demon flip into dive kick crazy because Ryu’s DP will be greeting you…If you airfireball then follow with demon dive kick, an EX DP can greet you if the Ryu player is smart enough.

What helped for me after a knock down is either demon flip into the palm strike which is very safe jump in.Hopefully ryu will DP and it will whiff upon block after your safe palm strike…and thus punish…You can mix it up by doing a series of block strings cancels into demon flip palm behind ryu and repeat into landing in back or in front of ryu to keep him guessing…and continue the mind games…Don’t forget to throw a couple of demon flip throws to mix it up.

Basically this is the only way that I found to fight a good ryu… s.HK is also a very dangerous move against ryu as it whiffs on second hit if blocked. Use this move with caution. Play a safe fireball war and limit the red fireball to only full screen distance, have him establish a routine, and punish it. Akuma has to be the smarter player in the matchup due to his low stamina.

Let me know if this helps  or if it’s useless info…Just trying to help a fellow gouki player

what happens when i try demon flip palm mix ups is that he grabs me and im expecting an SRK so i get grabbed. then the next time ill counter grab and he’ll SRK instead. sometimes on a blockstring ill hear him mashing DP so ill stop, and a little while ago hed DP then id get a bnb in but now he mashes the DP and stops before he DPs so i dont give him the chip damage and he gets a blockstring or grab attempt. i notice back throw to lk.demon flip grab work really well and once hes in the corner i can usually keep him there but he still wins 2 out of 3 of our matches.

dp masher eh? Well basically if you do a series of block strings and you try to grab or cancel in to demon flip, if they dp the first couple of times, then don’t do it anymore…The person will “download” to his memory that you will do that and they will mash dp everytime…Pretend you are gonna grab or cancel demon flip and block…then punish the hell out of them when your BnB of choice.

If you have meter…DP their ass on wake up. and if blocked, just cancel. Do not establish a routine with a ryu player…Change everything up everytime. IE: After a knockdown:
-Cross up tatsu into sweep
-If hit: try it again
Now he’ll be suspecting that move again and instead of crossup, go straight into a jump in and most likely he will think you are gonna cross him up and you will get a hit confirmation into your combos.

Ryu is very dangerous against akuma…keep him guessing, you basically gotta capitalize to akuma’s maximum potential on ryu’s mistakes.

Its an annoying matchup for sure. like i said ill try to get some videos up of us playing so i can be told what im doing wrong or what i should be doing instead.

sounds good

Anyone wants to play vs chun li? I want some akuma matches.

yo lud i just signed off lol. but try playing really turtly. i just got done playing a real turtle chun and they were HARRRRRRRRRD matches

I mostly turtle vs you now, i didn’t use to, you’re better everything time i play you so, i have to be carefull. Trust me, I turtle you, maybe you just don’t notice it, or maybe my turtle is different. I always have a full meter, don’t I?

How do you guys usually approach a good sagat? As in get close and pressure. I fought a sagat today who would pretty much tu or hk most of my demon flips, even the ex ones. And yes i waited until he threw some tiger shots before going in. I did manage to get some combos in with a st rh but other than that i got TU raped.

Also another thing, what do you do against vega’s backflip? Is there anything that can punish that? I wasn’t sure but even a demon goes right through it. Most of the time i have trouble putting pressure on him because of that, most people would just backflip a couple of times away from whatever im about to do.
