The NEOGEO Battle Coliseum Mega-thread

I know, but we have our little underground NGBC troupe in NYC, mainly Brooklyn.

Jon Badwolf, I’ll be there 2morrow.

Don’t expect me to be any good mind you, but I’ll be there.

;p

not going to be out on friday. Saturday is good because my home is free for all challengers.

S Tier:
Kim
BIG
A Tier:
Hotaru
Marco
Kaede

That’s the order I’d put them in for the top. Kim vs BIG is pretty much even because of Kim’s one special that will beat BIG cr.A. Other than that, BIG probably beats Kim. Against the others though, Kim has better matchups, with both of the S tier having matchups in their favor against the other three. Believe me, BIG beats Hotaru - probably a 6-4 matchup in his favor and could be more depending on how BIG is played.

B Tier:
Haohmaru
Kyo
Iori
Moriya
Washizuka

C Tier:
Kisarah
Hanzo
Mudman
Cyber Woo

-Haohmaru has better options and pokes than Kyo and can control space much better.
-Kyo would go before Haohmaru if he weren’t so one dimensional and jump-in/corner dependant. Kyo has the best all around super in the game IMO.
-Iori fireball/uppercut is good, and hard to punish him all around.
-Moriya’s cr.B is amazing, he has parry, good pokes, and is also hard to punish.
-Washizuka has great keep away/chip damage, and then if they get close to him - parry. His super is also really good.
-Kisarah has nice options, and attacks from distances/angles that none of the other characters can attack from. You have to fight her very differently with some characters. Nice super, and quick damaging level 3, but has a hard time against uppercuts/parries.
-Hanzo has tricks and a good dp, but if you can stay away from his super fireball, there’s not much he can go. Real solid though.
-Mudman…if you have a character that can beat his dive kicks, he loses - if the character can’t be his dive kicks, he wins. Mudman can zone well with his fireballs however, but the recovery is slower than it seems if done too close. He can’t get people off of him.
-Cyber Woo has a real hard time against good jumpins, but has good damage on everything, an autoguard throw, and some nice supers. You have to know how to fight his autoguard stuff, and if you do, rushdown will beat him.

*These are just the ones I feel fairly sure about. K’ I’m not sure, and neither am I about Mizuchi. Neo Dio isn’t all that good though in my opnion, and neither are Geese, Asura. Terry has some okay stuff, mostly cr.D. Ai though, should be dead last.

Good stuff…with Kisarah you mean Level 2 Grab Super right? Level 3??? If so please tell me I’m hella curious!!!

IMO Dio is better than Geese and Asura surely…I would put Dio in C Class somewhere…but not sure where…you think Yuki is better than Ai? Why is that?

K is weak as hell…his stuff doesn’t do much damage at all…Class C suits him…

Yeah…Ai at least has some mind games with the Joy Joy Blocks and her teleport dashes. Yuki…well, he’s Yuki and he’s bottom tier because of his neckerchief.

Ai’s corner combos hit 60% or more, easily. And they aren’t hard to do plus look sweet.

Yuki is alot of work and beast buster/his DP are his only notable moves. I think they were scared to give him anything really good because he has an IAD.

Yeah good point…no Storms/Mags/anything else.

People keep citing K’s damage as his weakpoint. Ask anybody who plays me, this is NOT TRUE. He may not do damage off of lights, but he has easy 45-50% stuff, especially in the corner. He just CAN’T FIGHT TOP TIERS, at all. I’m talking about real top tiers, not Kaede. =P

I’d seriously like to learn how to use K’ better, Do you know any of these large damage combos exactly? Anything would help, even some general strats would be appreciated. I pretty much just play him like his 03’ incarnation. So I know for a fact, I’m not utilizing his full potential.

Ok, your bread and butter damage with K’ is going to come either from Heat Drive combos or corner Trigger - Shell combos. This is one of his downfalls, he needs meter or corner to get damage, but you can work around that.

Midscreen, close D->forward+A->QCB+B,QCB+B(fast)->SC Heat Drive (A version plz), then TK QCB+B.

This is your midscreen damage combo, it should do between 40-50% damage. If you’re not good at getting the instant Narrow Spike (QCB+B,QCB+B), then you can just skip it and do the Heat Drive straight from forward+A, you only lose a little damage. This also works in the corner, but he’s got better stuff there.

Corner, crouch C or close C -> QCF+A, F+D, jump D->QCB+D

Corner combo, good damage and no meter required. Note that any time you manage to catch someone out of the air midscreen with Second Shell, you should be able to catch your opponent with the jump D->QCB+D. If you have a meter and want more damage, just do a Heat Drive from the Second Shell and add a TK QCB+B (this also works midscreen). You can also just juggle with D-Assault any time you land a Second Shell (D-Assault also hits off of two down+As, very important).

The damage is there. The hard part is landing the hit.

i’ll say this about Kaede. If you play defensive against him you have a better chance of winning it seems. Well that’s against my Kaede anyway. But what happens if he gives you the same treatment. Cause it seems that Beast of Fire and Saisyu have gotten a false sense of confidence. You both played against him and you both got a couple of matches in. Neither of you have fought the other top tiers consistently so you don’t know just how good you’ll do against them. Don’t knock out Kaede just because you got 1 or 2 wins on him out of 25. But keep up the good work. Just understand that you guys have more to learn. Don’t worry though cause I like your attitudes. I just have to put you guys back in your place since I am “The King of The Coliseum.” Just remember that in tournaments, I reign supreme, and in casuals, I don’t care.

lol whatever you say Lucious. I just remember near the end that Kim was getting you your wins. =P

psst I’m still the NC Guilty Gear champ, suck it.

Casuals are just that…casuals…it blows me away when someone makes a big deal out of casual matches…wanna prove who’s better…tourney play or Money matches.

I personally think that Ai will usually die before she gets you in the corner. If you know what her blocks do, it’s not too tricky. Plus, there is always AB roll.

I’ve seen some of her good stuff, but she’s just seems too slow. Now don’t get me wrong it’d be nice to see a good one and I’m not saying it’s impossible, but back when I was considering playing her it’s kind of easy to see her glaring weaknesses, especially against the tops.

But while she does have massive weaknesses, she also has a couple of nice things. As opposed to Yuki…who flat out sucks.

Yeah I agree Turbo…I can’t see anything good for Yuki at all…I see more that Ai has than Yuki…

That’s just it…both of them are lousy characters but it stacks up like this:

[Ai]
-Very technical
-Powerful corner combos
-Half-decent mixup game
-Some minor mind games

[Yuki]
-IAD
-Horrible normals
-Far too dependant on powerups
-Far too situational

Neither one is good, but in the long run, you’re more than likely to win with Ai than Yuki. Tokyo Ranking Fighters even had vids of each of them being used. The Yuki user got flat out p0wned, while the Ai user managed to survive for a while against a rather formidable BIG/Marco tream. Now, the Yuki user himself could have sucked, but my point remains. Ai has more than Yuki, end of story. But Yuki does get points for using the NGPC ad-slogan as a winquote.

you guys better make it to EVO World…its either i kick ass or i get my ass kicked in this…

Hey man I am planning for it…don’t worry…I am making sure to catch up with Oscar etc…make no mistake about it…
