When did you start playing?
I first touched the game around fall 2003 to spring 2004 at super arcade, didn’t get serious about it ill 3 years later when I started playing competitively at Arcade infinity andthe rest is history.
did you play any games before this one?
yeah I first played mvc2, then kof 2002, svc chaos, and tekken 5 DR abit before I moved into this game
Why did you pick up this game?
I picked it up because of 3 certain people that used to dominate at super arcade around 2004-2005 and those three people are Mr Universe(marvin), Arnel, and Victoly. When super had the American cabs all the way in the back, every time I went into super it was always one of those three guys that racked up win streaks. They were basically untouchable. Sadly I don’t see them at super anymore. But it was these 3 guys that inspired me to play and get better. I’ll always be thankful to Arnel though, as he was the guy that really helped teach me about the game and how I can be better I certain situations and stuff.
Is there anything in particular that drew you about the game?
eh nothing really, it was just hot at that time and most people were playing it so of course I had to play it too
Who is your rival?
I don’t have anyone in particular but I would love to go up against Arnel one day and see how I would fare against my teacher hehehe
Where do you think you stand among the players around you ? Not where are you in the leaderboards, but where do you stand?
Been playing for a while, so I think I can hold my own against many
who is your favorite character.?
Any character with a kara throw and decent zoning
what is the highest ranking you ever got in a tournament?
Never played in one
any rituals you have before a match?
I just take a deep breath
How do you feel about talking during tournament situations?
Its annoying and I hate it
What is your take on lag? More obstacle than wrench ?
same like above
Do you plan on learning every characters to the extent of your current main ?
someday yes
Do you plan on continuing to play this game?
Yes
pok gai
I’m going to do my best to make it to super tonight so maybe I’ll see you there!
online is the biggest offender but I think console is different enough it has had a negative impact too. I used to think the guys who swore by CPS3 only were just being snobby but they really are different.
I think if you’ve only played console you can’t help but approach the game a little different. once the game slows down a bit and you can react to a lot more, decisions that you built into yourself don’t make sense anymore.
the last few weeks have been eye opening for me. I think extended time with CPS3 3rd Strike will make anyone a better player.
Do you/Did you have a Smashboards account?
i did but only used once to post in a favorite character thread to say “LUIGI!”
When did you start playing?
I first discovered the game when I bought anniversary edition on PS2. Third Strike was just another fighting game for me to mess with. That was my 3S conception. I was born and baptized into 3S around 2007/2008. It doesn’t feel like it has been that long.
Did you play any games before you played this one (3s)?
Tons…I mean everything is a game right? Wrong? I played and participated in Soul Calibur 2 tournaments for a while. That game was the first fighting game where I went to tournaments and wanted to be good. I’m still in love with Soul Calibur 2.
Why did you pick up this game?
Initially I just bought anniversary edition to have a very robust PS2 fighting game collection. Then I saw Daigo v. Just on Youtube. Finally some people I know bought a H2H 3S cab and invited me to play. If the latter had not occurred I would not be playing the way I do or filling this out.
Is there anything in particular about this game that drew you in (be very specific, like if parry, what parry)?
Parry is a big part of it. Red parry. Then there’s the art and music. I love the character select music.
Who is your rival?
My rival is the person who sits on the other side of the cabinet. He or she is trying to take my seat. I really relish beating Lord Jim and Bam-Bam.
Where do you think you stand amongst the players around you? Not where are you in the leaderboards, where do you think you stand (only the girls will take offense to this, it’s an opinion after all)?
Oh I’m pretty bad. It mostly doesn’t matter who the players surrounding me are, I will probably find a way to give away a match. I’m just a nice guy like that.
Who is your favorite character?
My favorite is Hugo because sometimes I’m about to go Andre the Giant and I love the Princess Bride and my snowboard has Obey stickers on it. I’m best, not beast, with Dudley.
What is the highest ranking you’ve ever gotten in a tournament?
I think I went 1 and 2 in one tournament. Other than that I’ve gone 0 and 2 in every tournament I’ve entered.
Perception: What is this game most like, to you? Do you think it shares anything in particular with something like fps games? maybe poker? Pachinko? Doesn’t have to be one of these, you can name your own.
If feels very similar to life. There are elements of art, of self-expression; there are elements of science, of deductive reasoning and critical thinking. Not to say art and science are separate things, I don’t think they are. Ultimately the game feels like it is about making choices.
Any rituals you have for before a match?
Nah, I don’t really have any pre-match rituals. Anymore I just try to take a few deep breaths, try to relax, stretch, get loose and consider an opening move.
Anything like above but strictly for tournament situation?
Nothing special same as above.
How do you feel about talking during tournament matches?
I don’t mind. Please don’t take offense if I don’t respond beyond a monosyllabic “Hmmm” or “Cool”.
How do you feel about any kind of out of the game distractions during a match?
I don’t really get distracted unless I see a woman walk by. This happens far too often when playing on the arcade cabinet. I’ll be doing fine and then out of the corner of my eye I’ll see a silhouette and the swish of a skirt. My gaze and focus will wander. Even worse is not seeing, just smelling her perfume or hearing boots or heels click on the hardwood floors. I have to turn my head and see.
What is your take on lag? More obstacle than wrench?
Shrug. It is a hindrance. It can be a good teaching tool in that it forces one to make adjustments. I could choose to play without lag and sometimes do.
Do you plan on learning every character in the game to the extent that you know your current main?
No. I still don’t know much about Dudley. There is just so much I want to learn.
Anything interesting you do/use in your game that you think only you do?
You’d do better to ask the people I play with if there is anything interesting about my game play. I’ve gotten compliments from players at tournaments about my knowledge v. Chun and I know I still have volumes to learn about that matchup. I’m pretty sure that everything I’ve ever done and will do has already been done before and better.
What if anything in particular do you use outside of the game that you can honestly say you learned from 3s?
Pay attention, consider situations, and learn from mistakes. Not necessarily things I’ve learned from 3S. 3S reinforces those things.
Do you plan on continuing to play this game?
Yes.
I’ll skip some questions
When did you start playing?
2003 on the Dreamcast. Occasionaly played it on arcades, though once a weekend and just 1-2 games.
Did you play any games before you played this one (3s)?
**Yes. Regarding fighters, mainly those of Neorage X on PC and MK1-2 in mid-90s. Occasionaly some arcade fighters too, though I had forgotten to use an arcade stick by then.
**
Why did you pick up this game?
**I never was a SF fan. Only exposure was the original SF2 on the arcades, SF2:New Challengers on the Sega Genesis and SF EX through Zinc. I skipped SFA, so 3S looked even more impressive. Those characters had soul, just like SNK fighters.
**
Is there anything in particular about this game that drew you in (be very specific, like if parry, what parry)?
*
Mainly the animation. at that time I wasnt in a position to understand or apply the parry mechanism, especially with a DC controller…
*
Who is your favorite character?
**Remy and Makoto
**
Perception: What is this game most like, to you? Do you think it shares anything in particular with something like fps games? maybe poker? Pachinko? Doesn’t have to be one of these, you can name your own.
(if Chess, though, can you compare your game to chess)
*the late-90s were some of the best and innovative years for 2D fighting games, as they had lost a lot from the advent of 3D fighters and had to innovate. It was Capcom’s attempt at something new, just like with Jojo and Vampire Savior. But at the same time they wanted the game to be as appealing as possible and not look too Japanese, like Guilty Gear. I regard the game as the swan song of classic 2D fighters, before the merging of 3D backgrounds and stuff and the advent of SF4
**
*
How do you feel about any kind of out of the game distractions during a match?
**Shit happens **
What is your take on lag? More obstacle than wrench?
Online play, with or without lag, isnt that fun but still some good moments can be gained.
Do you plan on learning every character in the game to the extent that you know your current main?
**
No, plus I dont need to.**
*
Do you plan on continuing to play this game?*
yes. I regard it as a classic game that will be played for decades to come, until VR fighters take the lead.
Awww ya soul calibur 2 is one of the first fighting games i actually practiced.
I only had people to play in 3d fighters when I was younger (before high school), no one played 2d fighters around me.
soul calibur 2 was definitely my favorite. i only used nightmare. how can anyone dislike midnight launcher and rook splitter? or his headbutt and drop-kick.

I used Lizardman. If I didn’t know my own movelist because Namco didn’t put it in the game, neither could my opponent lol.
