When did you start playing?
When I first touched 3S? 2000 or so. I played SA2 Ken and spammed regular Tatsus like an idiot.
When I first dedicated myself to it? February 2003, JP Dreamcast version.
Did you play any games before you played this one (3s)?
Bemani games, like DDR(I would enter local tourns) and IIDX. I was into the Guilty Gear games though, from the PSX version to X2; one could say this was my first competitive fighting game series.
Why did you pick up this game?
I played NG back when it first came out. There was a machine at Planet Fun in Potomac Mills, Woodbridge VA, and I loved how smooth and advanced everything looked in comparison to Alpha 2. Everything about it felt so foreign to me though, so I was pretty intimidated and turned off. I skipped 2nd Impact, and I tried out 3S. Hugo and Q immediately grabbed my attention since I liked grapplers and robot masks, but y’know, SA2 Ken spam Tatsu.
Then a friend of mine talked about 3S and how great it was, and I just so happened to find the Japanese DC port of it. I didn’t know anything about whether or not it was the worst port, it was 3S. Bought it, played around. Some friends of mine who were playing before I picked it back up played with me too, so I was slowly building something. I liked the game, but I wouldn’t fall in love with it until the KO/Daigo match at Evo2K3 Grand Finals. That was the set that changed my perspective on 3S forever, and what made me want to get good at it.
Is there anything in particular about this game that drew you in (be very specific, like if parry, what parry)?
Parries in general. Sure, the tiers are tiers and it would have to take something really big to change anything in 2013, but it’s like Rikimaru said: nothing’s absolute.
Who is your rival?
The world.
Where do you think you stand amongst the players around you? Not where are you in the leaderboards, where do you think you stand (only the girls will take offense to this, it’s an opinion after all)?
I’m not terrible. I’ve put in the time and effort, so I need to at least not be a terrible player.
Who is your favorite character?
Q - Just look at him! Gameplay-wise, it’s kind of the same as TM: high defense, damaging simple combos, he’s just a badass.
Urien - RX and Emphy showed me his near infinite possibilities, but guys like Pierre, Senaka and Rockefeller showed me he can be played at a slower and consistent pace. If Q wasn’t in this game, I’d want to play Urien full-time.
Honorable Mention: Hugo - My first serious main in 3S, a very fun grappler character that helped me learn the importance of pokes and footsies.
What is the highest ranking you’ve ever gotten in a tournament?
3rd place at a scrub tournament in Magfest.

3rd Strike is life. Chun-Li is that asshole who is extremely buff and could punch down that little nerd with the glasses(Twelve). That nerd is 3rd dan black belt though, and could beat the buff guy down due to his knowledge and intellect. And parries. Parries make life busted.

I put coins in.

Depends on what you mean by “talking”. Talking strategies? Talking DURING a match?

Annoying.

I hate it. It’s why I hated GGPO for the longest time, and why I don’t like playing on OE either. I don’t even like playing on the PS2 anymore because the slight speed increase.
Do you plan on learning every character in the game to the extent that you know your current main?
Not really, because I only enjoy playing a little over half the cast.

I can connect C&DB a lot, I guess.

Games are games. 3S is my favorite fighting game, but I’ve learned to treat it as nothing more than a game.

That said, it is still my favorite fighting game and I will keep playing it until I get married or something. Then I’ll occasionally play it.

Why did you pick up this game? My boyfriend had been talking about it very often as he had played it on the original Xbox.

I picked up this game because I wanted to play a fighter and some idiot said this was the best one.

First I liked it because it was pretty. Then the daigo parry thing was pretty sweet. Then I would just watch every video of daigo every day. Then I saw KO fight daigo so I started watching every KO vid and I wanted to play yun. Then I watched kokujin vs daigo and I thought kokujin was the sickest ever so I wanted to play dudley. Then I saw J beat kokujin and I thought makoto was the sickest ever and so on and so on.

That stupid jerk 2manly720s cause he was new when I was new but I was newer and he would body me until I got better. Now we play every friday until 5 am. It’s so annoying
