The MvC3 Hulk thread

Basically, it’s the general strategy of every character. Use assists to get in, then mix them up once you’re in their face. The only difference with Hulk is that you need to be a bit better on defense.

Small characters? They tend to die with one hit from hulk so once you get that initial hit you should usually kill them. I try not to use s.M to much against smaller characters unless they are in the air since they can usually just duck under it. I also abuse my lock-down assist against them. Forcing them to jump by making them fear being on the ground, most characters don’t have mutli-hitting aerial moves. Also air throwing them and slowly forcing them into a corner really helps hulk out against any and all characters.

Alright so here’s a dumb question, but it’s something I’ve kinda been struggling with on my Hulk/Deadpool/Wesker team. Getting in with Hulk I can usually handle. Defensive jumps and Quick Work assist help greatly there. The problem is, how do I stay in their face once I get there? A lot of the time I’m lucky enough for a j.H/S or the Quick Work to give me a free dead character, but on the occasions that Hulk’s smashing gets blocked, what do you guys do to keep the pressure alive?

I’ve tried a few alternatives, such as Gamma Charging forward and away, and just playing good defense and waiting for my next shot at moving, but does anyone else have a strategy they’re fond of for keeping Hulk in someone’s face? Looking forward to hearing what others have come up with.

To be honest, you need a projectile assist to help Hulk stay point blank, but I can see why you have Quick Work for the Hi-Lo mixup. Basically I recommend cornering your opponent and using Anti-Air Gamma Charge; it recovers quicker than SMASH and combos the same…

I was afraid beam assist would be the solution. Using AA Charge sounds interesting, though. I’ll give it a try, thanks!

I have the exact opposite problem since I run Thor/Hulk/Haggar lol. But anyway as someone else said use AA charge and H follow-up to put them in mix-up hell. A lot of times you can AA charge, H follow, then s.H because they will try to punish but you will recover before they do and at worst trade, which you will win due to super armor. If they block the s.H you can either cancel into another AA charge, delay the S for a frame trap, or go into gamma charge pressure (delay a bit for another frame trap, cancel into H follow-up to make safe, cancel into gamma quake for a deceptive follow-up, or cancel into a delayed gamma crush for another frame-trap)

Eventually your opponent will be conditioned to either block after the AA charge or jump back, in which case a command throw M or H will beat either and can lead into a combo depending on your screen positioning and/or assists.

If they push-block the H-follow-up it looks like you might be able to call deadpool and jump right back in for more pressure. Either way the H-follow up on the AA charge is amazing for closing the distance as Hulk and staying there.

Don’t forget about my favorite follow up to the AA charge… cr.:l:!! I run into a few characters that are fast enough to beat out a s.:h: followup since they have 10 frames to do so, especially if they know the match up. But with +5 on block, a well timed cr.:l: will only give them 4 frames to interrupt. A lot of people will try it too, thinking that Hulk is just too damn slow, and lose a character for it. It’s still a really easy hit confirm, and safe even if they are smart enough to just block it. :dp::h: :h: cr.:l: cr.:m: xx :dp::h::h: etc.

So with a little more than a week until DEV I would like some input from you guys on what I should be working on with hulk? I’m just trying to get some last minute set-ups, cross-ups, match-up, info going.

I’m a little late but uhh…Sup fellow Hulk Players, maybe someone knows me
Would like to thank Liquid for spreading the vast amount of Hulk info he has with all of us.

So, I went to Fight Club but I didn’t get to test as much as I wanted to due to the fact that I’m a pad player and there was only one pad station and it wasn’t winner stays. Didn’t really feel anything all that different about Hulk. Tried to compare his health with Nemesis, he has slightly less health than Nemesis right now. Still think Hulk should have the most health in the game though. Unfortunately, I thought his new move would have been a special move so I tried inputting every motion with every button and couldn’t find it. I found out that it was a command normal waaay too late :frowning:
He can still do his bnbs in the corner, wave xx crush. Might be able to get more hits from Gamma Quake by mashing, not sure on that though.

Man these totally cheered me up today. Reading the descriptions in Hulk’s voice turned a shitty day into awesomeness. Blue Captain Universe Hulk looks soooo badass.

Blue Hulk is pretty awesome. Now I’ll actually have to pick between two different colors for him in Ultimate…

Blue Hulk IS amazing. Age of X Hulk is laaaaame, though.

Alright so I tried to Rep hulk at DEV and I only got to round 2 before I got bodied by an insane C.Viper player. I was playing people and seeing some awesome set ups that I had never seen before. Good learning experience and a good time all around, I learned how a major tournament can affect my play.

So I have a question (not a Hulk player) but the anti-strats and Q&A threads are both locked so I figured I’d ask in here and hopefully get a real response instead of just “HULK STRONGEST THERE IS!!!” looks at Redbeard Basically I just got bodied by a Hulk team and I can kill Hulk (when I’m not messing up shit) but my problem was that I couldn’t get a hit. Long story short, how does one deal with Hulk’s Gamma Charge AA ( :dp:+:h:, :l: I think) where he charges the air and then comes back to the ground? I know Dante has the (?) slowest normals in the game but as soon as he did it and it stopped I would try to counter and another one would come out before I could even press a button. I tried to press the button quicker but this time he counterhit me. Is there a way to counter it or do I have to Adv. Guard and try to get the first hit?

Did you try running away and shooting Hulk in his big dumb face, dude? It’s kinda like fighting Haggar. Yeah, you SHOULD be able to score combos and take him out, but there’s the ever present risk of pipe. Just get away from him and keep him there. He lacks ranged options, and he’s so big it’s not hard to pepper him with projectiles. Dante should have plenty of tricks to keep him out, just be careful and don’t give him a free chance to Gamma Crush. Or, I dunno, smack him with the hammer? It’s like, invincible, ain’t it?

I run at the start of the match (I hate messing with armored moves) but he follows me so I have to play close range at the start. If I jump and try to throw out Hammer he throws me before I can get it out and the “fun” starts again. And I’m pretty sure staying on the ground isnt safe. I guess what I meant to ask is, how do I get Hulk outta my face?

Gamma charge AA (any strength, then H follow up) is safe on block - +5 at the best, so you can’t do anything about that unless he hits you really high up. Use advancing guard against the second hit to push him out. Proper use of advancing guard is the best way to beat Hulk - he has great frame traps that lead into big damage if you try and press buttons when he’s in your face, so don’t bother. As soon as you prove you know how to deal with Hulk pressing buttons, he has to go for air throw/command throw to score damage.

In short, don’t let him get close. If he does, then either use Haggar/Tron assist, or be prepared to advance guard correctly.

Yeah just like electric said, Adv. Guard is Hulk’s worst enemy. You really have no choice but to push the second hit of AA Gamma Charge since it’s +5 on block. If you don’t AG his AA Charge you are likely to get opened up by the frame trap and lose a character to THE STRONGEST THERE IS!!! (couldnt resist, you baited me :D)

Dante usually ruins me with that guitar shit too. I don’t have any clue what it’s called, but it’s the Jam Session look-alike without the vertical column. Pretty much stops any approach options. That, hammer (make sure not to just jump right infront of him, you’ll get the spin cycle), and zoning with the purple spirit bomb (make sure you’re above gamma wave height and far enough back not to get Crushed). Dante is a bad matchup for Hulk imo.

Liquid plays Dante and Hulk both, he probably has better advice honestly.

Thanks for all the help

In the interest of having the UMvC3 character threads be as awesome as possible, I am posting here to offer up my current Ultimate Dormammu Thread as a base skeleton to anyone who intends to manage a character thread, or something similar, in Ultimate. It is currently stripped of information, and will remain so until about a week before release. I am not attempting to toot my own horn, but rather offer to others what took me quite a bit of work to do, so that those who would rather not spend the time on such things do not have to.

I have received a lot of compliments to-date about the structure, and a few people have requested permission to use its structure for UMvC3, so I thought I would go around and make the offer to others who might not be aware that someone out there has already done the grunt work for them (haha). Because I am posting this in all the character forums, and this is time consuming on its own, I have not taken the time to check for how developed the thread I am posting on current is. Thus, I ask that no one be offended at my suggestion if your character forum is well constituted already - I mean no intrusion upon your methodologies!

Here is a link to the thread blueprint:

You can get an example of what it looks like when filled out here:

You are of course entirely welcome to change whatever you like if you want to incorporate this structure into your own thread. I have all of my posts saved as Word documents on my computer. If you would like these documents instead of having to copy/paste from the main threads, please feel free to PM me your email address, along with the character thread they will be used for, and I will gladly send them.

Highest Regards to All,
Karst
