I’m pretty sure most of us here agree that Hulk should go on point. He needs an OTG assist and one good assist to help him “get in there.” If he lacks either of these, it’s not only harder to use him, but he is less effective as the damage dynamo that he is.
Point in my opinion. He has a great beginning of game start since you can just press up against the opponent and mash :h: unless they’re using Haggar, Tron, or Akuma assist. Additionally, he is considerably more effective when you have an OTG assist and a lock down/projectile assist, which is only guaranteed to be available if he is first in line.
He is also really bad at coming in after a character dies. With no double jump or air dash, he’s has no way of avoiding cross-ups and such. Lastly, he’s very easy to run away from at the end of the game, so he does not make a very good anchor. He can make a comeback if he manages to catch the opponent, but that can often be extremely hard to do.
Thank you guys for your precious help!! I use The Hulk in general on point but I can say I have bad times when I have to face off against a Wolverine or Taskmaster on point. When you say a “get in there” assist, you might want to say assists like Iron Man’s Iron Beam, Dr. Doom’s Plasma Beam, Akuma’s Tatsu or Arthur’s Dagger Toss??
I was thinking that the character who has the best synergy with The Hulk was Haggar and his Double Lariat assist as it gives enough time to Hulk to connect with two ground attacks before his classic set of “MMHS”…
If you’re having trouble with Wolverine, I personally would recommend Doom’s Molecular Shield. Wolverine has a hard time punishing this assist if you call it while just outside of his reach. He doesn’t have time to run up and hit Doom before the rocks start swirling and after they do, he has to block. Because Doom’s assist hits behind him, it can also hit Wolverine out of Berserker Slash better than almost any other assist.
The other great thing about Molecular Shield in this match-up is that most Wolverine players use Akuma or Tron assist to help them get in. Molecular Shield has rocks high enough to hit Akuma assist and low enough to hit under Tron’s flame (though not before the flame comes out, so you do still have to be careful - it just gives you more time to punish it since she gets popped up into the air a bit). All in all, it is a great assist for Hulk to have in this match-up.
Thanks a lot Liquid!! I definitely have to include Dr. Doom in my “Haggar-Hulk” team to cover their asses!!
Astaroth did the Magneto play run away with you? I’ve played some really good Magneto’s and I find if they run away they give Hulk a lot of problems but if they even think about rushing down Hulk can pretty easily shut Magneto down. I find the same thing with Storm actually. Both have low life and don’t have the speed or multihitting attacks necessary to stop the armor. Storm especially seems to do really really bad against Hulk though I’ve not played any good Storms like I have Magnetos
Now if you want to talk about outright painful matchups Doom vs Hulk is it. I still haven’t found a good way to get in on this guy.
It was a mixture of both. Once I got in, he would rush me down a bit. I made A TON of mistakes though (exhaustion from playing 4 tourney matches straight), and I should’ve easily won. For example, I never punished any of his flight cancels after a blocked cr.H. I also tried too many st.H’s which got me killed.
But yes, rushdown Magneto should NEVER work against Hulk. Keepaway is much more difficult to handle. I’ve never fought a competent Storm, but cornering her seems easier than cornering Magneto.
I disagree with you. Doom’s zoning attacks come out very slowly, so it’s super easy to Gamma Wave lock him to force him to come to you. Here’s a breakdown of what I think you should do against Doom. Doom shouldn’t be any harder than Magneto once you know the matchup.
If Doom is:

[]Alternating Plasma Beam and Photon Shot: Block or jump over a Plasma Beam, then Gamma Wave H. After Gamma Wave, either call a projectile assist and close the distance between you and Doom or continue using Gamma Wave H until Doom comes to you
[]Spamming Plasma Beam: Jump over a Plasma Beam and Gamma Wave H. Same as above
[]Using Air Photon Shot: Usually means Doom is about to come to you, but if they don’t, just super jump it - APS doesn’t go above Doom like the ground version
[]Trying to rushdown: Footdive is very unsafe for Doom in this match-up because of your s.:h: and s., so punish it accordingly. Since Doom can’t cancel his ground dash into an attack, he’ll have to tri-jump or box-jump to close any distance. If he’s afraid to do Footdive, then you’re golden because his j.:l: and j.
are both very easy to airthrow him out of. Not only that, but if he goes for an empty tri-jump into c.:l:, you’ll either air throw ihm out of the tri-jump or dodge the c.:l: since you’re jumping on reaction to his tri-jumps.

Well put.
Ironically, it’s been 2 months since I played this game. Just started back to playing it this weekend and I racked up 2 wins against a Cosmic & Master Lord with my Hulk/Spencer/Doom team. A personal achievement for me.
OK, enough juvenile bragging. I need some input on something; I recently came into a MadCatz Arcade Stick, and I’ve been wanting to put it to good use. Only problem is, I’m a 5th Lord/Ranger using my Xbox Controller. Should I just keep using my controller or should I make the leap to the Fightstick?
Nobody cares what you play on or what your rank online is. If you want to play for fun use whatever controller device you enjoy. If you want to play at tournaments use whatever controller you can win with. This isn’t rocket science man.
Welcome back. I think what Ender may have been trying to say is that you’re online record is really only for your benefit. You may feel like it is very important, but generally people only really pay attention to their own records and aren’t impressed by the online records of others.
If you want to make the switch, I would recommend practicing extensively your movement and combos with the stick before bringing it online. At some point though, if you want to make the switch, your online record is going to suffer a bit until you get the hang of it. If it’s not worth it to you to take some losses that you may have won usin a pad, then don’t make the switch.
Yeah online ranking doesn’t really much as most online players don’t know what the hell they are doing. If you want to play on stick do what liquid says and work on movement and your combos. I say jump back onto missions with the stick and get the handle of things. Then once you feel a little comfortable with the new stick play some player matches to get use to online with the stick.
I think Liquid has got this shit right. IMO, this is one of doom’s harder things to deal with. Doom can’t just dash and block, making his offensive choices very very risky. Also, gamma wave eats all the durability points of heavy plasma beam and comes out faster to begin with.
Sure doom can wreck hulk H whiffs by dive kicking in and free combo, but its a patient fight and way more risky for doom than it is for hulk. Hulk is a beast!
So any new changes to Hulk yet learned at Comic-Con? The only thing I’ve noticed so far is his new light green color is dope lol!
From what I’ve seen, standing H is like, super fast now. Enough for me to go “woah!” every time I see it.
I saw a lot of garbage Hulk play, so it was hard to tell. I hope his st.H still hits behind him though…
hulk’s standing h didn’t look faster to me
HOWEVER
it now has sentinel s style armor on it - it’ll absorb 3 hits while coming down.
Awesome. Let the scubby salt tears flow for Hulk.
In one of the streams I thought I saw hulk do a down gamma charge from a normal jump. Hulk with a dive kick? Yes please.
THAT would be CRAZY. hulk with the ability to gamma charge FROM THE AIR?
sign me up.
WHAAAAAAAAAAAT?! If that’s the case, then that single change made some of his bad matchups better (namely, the small, fast characters). Zero j.H is laughable now. Wolvie’s cr.L spam will be beat out. Sent drones are less of a threat.
