I like Chun’s theme the best of all of them in SFV so far! It really drives home all those Chinese martial arts films I used to watch when I was younger. Nostalgia city.
Two things I don’t understand about the SFV stage music:
The overall love for Bustling Side Street. I find it to be just repetitive with no oomph.
The overall hate for Forgotten Waterfall. Round 1 is maybe a little too chill, but round 2 is just fine. Is it because too many people didn’t change their stage preference in the beta?
Anyway, here’s my list, top to bottom:
Kanzuki Estate
Forgotten Waterfall
Hillside Plaza
Apprentice Alley
Underground Arena
City in Chaos
Bustling Side Street
Note: I haven’t placed Lair of the Four Kings, as I haven’t been able to listen to it clearly to judge it, but for now it’s at least above #8.
I’ve been trying to pre-order the soundtrack on CD Japan all morning but the website is down for some reason. Does anyone know another place that has it up for pre-order?
While it doesn’t “suck” it’s generally lacking a unique feel the other main series games got and some of the songs really do have way too much wubbing and not enough melody.
As i said in the general discussion thread, some themes are really good (great in some cases) and i think they did a better job this time around. Hated sfiv for the most part (soundtrack wise)
But i have to agree with smashbro29 when he talks about the lack of unique feel, and i might add lack of personality.
I think Capcom with this V is going very safe at start, but i believe well see some changes with new updates and i am sure well see new tracks.
In case anyone really wants the lyrics to Survivor, my friend and I worked on English approximations. Even though there’s a lil Engrish the lyrics are pretty sick.
Here now I observe
Standing on this fragile glass world
They long fall the dream when I dive
And wake up once again I feel alive
Come on the day is today
Here we go we are getting ready
Look around the world moving fast
I feel so alone and can’t find the right path
Come on the end of this game
Yeah we know the key to get it ready
Yōsha naki seizon kyōsō sō sa kachitori okosu evolution (The struggle for existence is relentless, fight for the victory and cause an evolution.)
容赦無き生存競争
そうさ勝ち取り起こすevolution
Come on the day is today
Here we go we are getting ready
Yeah I’ll be a survivor
I’ll be a survivor
Breaking out my shell
Yeah I’ll be a survivor
We’ll be the survivor
Breaking our farewell
Here now I reload
Waiting on this broken plateau
Bokutachi wa kanarazu sōdarou doko ka kitto tsunagatteru (Definitely seems that somewhere we’re connected for sure.)
僕たちは必ずそうだろう
どこかきっとつながってる
Come on the day is today
Here we go
We are getting ready
I could be anything anything I can choose
Do not fear the change there’s nothing nothing to lose
Lose come on the critical way
Yeah we know the key to get it ready
Tachiagatte kobushi wo agete
(Stand up and raise your fist!)
立ち上がって 拳を上げて
Find my brand new day
Yeah I’ll be a survivor
I’ll be a survivor
Breaking out my shell
Yeah I’ll be a survivor
We’ll be the survivor
Breaking our farewell
Boku wa dare no tamede mo naku - the survivor, be the survivor -
kono mi wo kogashi going on (I ain’t doing this for no one else - the survivor, be the survivor - even if my body’s scorched, I’m going on)
僕は誰の為でも無く
the survivor, be the survivor -
この身を焦がしgoing on
Here now I observe
Standing on this fragile glass world
Breakout our farewell today
Sō daichi o kette sa~a kitto tsukami toreru
(Yeah, stomp the ground, no doubt take it by force)
そう大地を蹴ってさぁ

Yeah I’ll be a survivor
I’ll be a survivor
Breaking out my shell
Yeah I’ll be a survivor
We’ll be the survivor
Breaking our farewell
It was 100% correct when I wrote it, and is still mostly correct today. The presence of one or two good songs doesn’t change the fact that a lot of it sucks.
Even the originals were botched by these shitty composers. I don’t know what the hell they did to Zangief’s theme, he had such a baller arrangement in SF4 and then they come out with this? It doesn’t even sound anything like the original.
There’s definitely some good themes all over in the EX series, but sometimes while they’re good character themes they just aren’t very good fighting game themes. Sakura’s theme from EX3 sounds like an extended anime opening.
