well they’re the ones that the extremely large majority associate with the characters, so of course they’re used. I certainly don’t think of Ryu’s godawful alpha 3 or sf3 theme when I think of him.
Alpha 3 was so bad that every character introduced in that game had entire new themes made for them.
Wow, this thread is shockingly negative. I like all the songs so far except Laura’s theme. Chun’s was very underwhelming, but not necessarily bad. Vega’s, Ryu’s, Rashid’s and Nash’s are amazing. The rest are good but not great or horrible.
I’m a big fan of the OST so far. On a whole, better than the majority of what SF has done. Only maybe one stage track that was meh (London), Training stage won’t be good after hearing it so much, and Laura’s and Bison’s are kind of weak to me. The duds in this OST aren’t awful though, whereas in many other SF OSTs there’s plenty. Laura’s at least sounds a lot better when you can feel the bass. Bison’s is good when you don’t expect something menacing and think of it more as an “end of the line” kind of track. Surprised people don’t like Cammy’s. To me usually hers is awful but now they finally have something that really fits. A lot of pretty amazing ones too like Rashid, Necalli, and Karin’s. I think you can really tell several people worked on this. A lot of variation opposed to what you got from some past SF titles.
sf3 was just traditional dnb with a few discos and a hiphop but I like that style as well as the theater sound 5 has going for it.
4 was just electro house type shit and some themes would not translate to that house well.
I feel like karin’s theme in 5 even surpasses most of the previous shit.
Rashid’s theme’s natural parts sound good and the little arab melody in the backround, a step up from 4 but not on the same set as karin or waterfall or that jungle ox shit imo.
So what do you guys think of the Street Fighter EX themes? I personally thought Guile’s Theme “Strange Sunset” was a pretty interesting piece. Not necessarily great or iconic, but not terrible. Sagat’s theme “Before Moon” was also a pretty nice piece, and I feel like that fit him fairly decently.
Wow, Eventscrubs comments are overall positive for once although as expected, there are people complaining about being the umpteenth remixes of SF2.
Rant incoming:
There is people here, that have played SF2, SFA2 and SF4 and therefore have been listening to those tracks for a lot of years combined. With SF5 it sums the FOURTH that we get handled the same old stuff. It’s like food: even if lasagna were my favorite food, I would for settle for another plate even if slightly inferior just on the point of not being lasagna if there were the 4th time in a week I got it served.
The tracks getting repetitive is an objective reason to dislike them, and it is obvious that plain mediocrity and the wish to get the job done by the path of less effort were the main drives for choosing to remix the same old tunes instead of trying to come up with something fully new. You are obtuse if you fail to see those as valid reasons to dislike the soundtrack and try to bring the easy and subjective argument of “I like it” as a way to disprove them.
Also, it’s 2016 and by now there are a lot of FG themes out there to listen and compare, available on Youtube even if you didn’t go to arcade. Those whose experience at FGs is mostly SF2 and an entry or two more are probably the ones that are quite satisfied with SF5 soundtrack, and not pleasing them is going to be quite hard as long as they stick with the old formula. After listening to soundtracks like the ones from Guilty Gear, Killer Instinct, Tekken or Dead or Alive, SF5 ranks below all them for me. Even if they were bearable, that still puts them in a bad light, particularly coming from the franchise and the company that should know best.
No, it is ALL personal preference. ‘More solid parameter’ is just a euphemism for ‘my taste is smarter than yours’ and no it isn’t.
SF3 and Alpha 3 take a HUGE ass dump on most any music Capcom has produced in the last decade. Then they flush! SF5’s music is better than 4’s, but that’s it.
If I’m going to fight against a 10 year experienced mma fighter, who will win? Even if I’m a mma fighter, does that mean I’m automatically at the same level of a pro? A mma fighter can be better than other.
A player can be better than other.
A musician can be better than other.
A composer can be better than other. And, finally, a better composer can make better music than other. It involves practice, knowledge, not personal taste. If I’m going to make a song it will probably sounds TERRIBLE near a true renowned musician, right?
Using personal preference to like bad things doesn’t make them good. There’s nothing wrong using just your taste (a subjective parameter) to judge things btw, but it’s wrong to universally transform something terrible in something good just because you like it.
I love very very old cars (1900s), does this mean they are more powerful (better) than today’s cars? Nope.
Like I said, the melodies of aplha 3 can be even good, but it’s just a fact that the arrangements are almost ALL the same and this IS bad, once it fatefully creates the feeling of being TOTALLY repetitive.
In all honesty, I think over half of the tracks shown so far were pretty damn nice, especially Nash’s theme due to it being a remix of his SFA theme with a darker tone which I really loved.
this is my first comment here on this topic
tbh I think the music is quite awesome, I mean just listening to necalli, Rashid, FANG theme - all these new themes are rly good
Karin, Nash etc SFV theme are great too
of course the OST can’t compare with SF EX1 or Alpha 2 OST, but it is still rly great
also the stage OST of SFV is rly well made - china stage <3 kazuki stage sounds like soul calibur <3
Well, the most I’m seeing from the people who don’t like it is “It sucks. This shit sucks. The music sucks.” Thanks for finally proposing an argument, but I respectfully disagree. I’d like it if you did the same and didn’t start name calling just because I spoke my mind.
After giving it a few more times to listen to a bit more music it did grow on me. China’s stage was good from the start, but a good amount of the character themes are pretty good and the main thing I’ve always liked about them here is that they’re pretty distinct from each other.
Then again it helps listening to the music while being in a few matches and getting a bit more hyped up from it.
