The problem with SFIV’s music is exactly because it tries to follow modern electronic/dubstep/edm trends. So this won’t change unless they decide to back off on this a bit.
4’s soundtrack is a mess. The SF2 and Alpha(before 3) character themes all shared a similar style of music so when they were remixed into 4 they all sound like they belong together. SF3 chars featured their 3s music which was by no means the same style, but they tried to remix it to fit. It just doesn’t. Should have used their 2I music.
Anyways, the nostalgia factor is gone now with SF4, so I expect some new and good stuff for SF5.
To add on to that, electronic doesn’t mean bad. A lot of games have employed very good 100% electronic music. It’s all a matter of taste really but there is a certain logic behind what music good, bad, in-between or catchy.
Let me leave an example of what I would consider good electronic music to be. I’d almost say this sounds like an in-between of tekken and SFIV.youtube.com/watch?v=tYE_lb3sYzE
But like I’ve mentioned before and others have, SFIV just has too much going on. This mishmash of irrelevant instrumentation that makes many of its tracks sound cartoony.
Yeah, like it was said earlier, the problem with SF4’s music was that it was overproduced. Too much beep-boop crap and orchestral strings buried down the melodies. And IMO, the tracks just sound too slick and clean. Maybe it was the synth.
SF music sounds better when done the minimalistic way, like this:
Damn straight man, capcom should use spinning bird and before moon as examples to look up to. That’s the kind of music that get’s stuck in your head for good, because it’s SO fucking good.
To each his own, personally I mute the game beside the announcer/special effects in ultra.
I prefer second impact and third strike’s music, especially alex themes for both.
If sfv has to go the house route again… I’d prefer the sf3 approach to house music or I can just use sf3 ost and just mute the bgm again lol.
So what do you guys think of the music in the trailers? I think they’re freakin awesome! They have serious ominous hype vibes to them. I hope it’s a good sign for the actual gameplay music.
SF4 music is terrible, its for the OCD generation. I don’t know how this happened, Capcom was always on point with game music, what happened to the catchy melodies that made the tracks so memorable. I’d rather Capcom go back to jazz soundtracks of SF3/MvC than continue with this discotheque dance music. The jazz stuff was strange departure from the older games but at least it was catchy.
Since SF2 series is perfect (ST PC CDrom being at the pinnacle), the only other game that has hit the ball out of the park was SFA3. Alpha 2 was great but had some turds for me, Adon theme was awesome, so was Sakura’s, Ken’s was horrendous.
Yeah, again I hope someon at the Capcom music department see what we all think is the horridness of SF4’s soundtrack and decides to make the best SF soundtrack since 2nd Impact/3rd strike. New Generation was horrible and then they turned their music around to make amazing soundtracks. Lets see em do it again.
