I would like if Capcom did promotional mix tapes again. I remember them releasing a free hip hop mixtape for the release of HDR. It would be cool if they did the same for SFV.
Ive been listening a lot to Alpha 2 themes, they have this great dark side of town vibe where fights would happen in the street. Totally different vibe it makes from the autotune girly squeaking in sf
Seriously, the only other perople who should be moved to a different Capcom project from this besides Ono is the music department.
I’m surprised that no one brought up the North America Drive-In theme. That is a great song for SF4.
It would also be nice if there was an option to listen to the tracks and sound effects. That was practically a staple in video games. Now it’s like it’s banned.
You mean a sound test? Yes, please. I don’t know why they have removed that.
But I did D:
I’m guessing some developers are hesitant to include sound tests now since so many people have the gear to rip the music from those using recording software.
Yes. It’s been so long I forgot what it was called.
Sorry Doopliss, I must’ve missed it.
As for soundtests, I assumed it faded away from games in the mid-90’s when the music was CD quality for the first time and so companies could sell the soundtracks on CD’s instead of ‘giving it away for free’.
A game like Castlevania: Symphony of the Night probably made a lot of money selling it’s soundtrack.
I like the SF4 soundtrack a lot. I also like the SF3 soundtrack plenty, but there’s a lot of great music on the SF4 soundtrack. I think it suffered more from the track changing when the ultra meters filled up.

I’ve been composing music for 15 years and producing for almost 10 and the SF4 soundtrack is well-made in my personal and professional opinion. Some of the remixes missed the mark but otherwise I really enjoy it.
I remember there were a few PSone games that acted like music CDs when put into a CD player. Wu-Tang game was one of them.
Some favorites:
Rufus’s theme is one of my favorites as well. It just has such a nice beat to it.
Blanka and Ken’s themes have always sucked.
A lot of people rip on IV’s soundtrack, and I get why. I find the stage themes to be pretty decent, I like a lot of them. The main problem with most of it’s tracks lies in the fact that there is too much synth and electronic BS constantly taking focus away from the melodies. Other than the stylistic choice, the melodies are quite good and would probably be fantastic is rearranged to something more simplistic, like the ST soundtrack.
The character themes for IV suck though. I really don’t like them. I feel like Capcom did a horrendous job and portraying characters with their themes. I believe the only ones I liked were:
Akuma’s theme(from SFA2, no that over the top, ugly remix of Ryu’s theme), Bison, Adon and Guy. Juri’s theme is catchy but it’s original so it has nothing to be compared to.
My reaction to the character themes for IV was that they really killed the image of their respective fighters. Wtf was up with that charlie brown BS in balrog’s theme(coincidentially my favorite ST theme), what about that GET OOUHN DA DANCE FLO’ with Dudley? Vega’s main line being replaced by an accordion instead of playing the classic violin? I could go on and on about it. The point of rearranging music is to keep the same feel of it but update it. The themes instead were this no-man’s land between rearranging and remixing that sounded like garbage. That’s out of my system now, phew.
I hope the SFV soundtrack either does something completely new in terms of musical direction, or sticks to the ST roots of highly melodic, crisp, clean tunes that will have me whistling non-stop on transit.
Yeah, they need to let go of the overproduced style of SF4 and go back to a more minimalistic one. Other than the SF2, I also really, really like SFEX+@'s ost. It has some sort of crispy, rock-ish sound while also keeping SF2-style melody. I hope they go for that.
Maybe make it darker for V? Like @OrochiDemon said, a “dark side of town” vibe? I wouldn’t mind some hip-hop or jazz influenced themes too, but not that trap music shit like in the 1st MKX trailer. More like 3rd Strike, like Wu-Tang. It just sounds classy.
Well I dont mean area of town where all the black people live, but well, if you live in Austin TX if you go from the I35 area from 183 to rundberg all the way out to before you get to Burnet then thats the type of area the Alpha 2 soundtrack reminds me of.
We are getting dubstep remixes of SF2 themes.
Dubstep…I would hope not. (LOL)
Seriously, I just miss good fighting game music that was catchy, you could kinda bop or tap your foot to, and hummed a lil’ after finishing the stage. It was over 20 yrs ago, but I still remember the arcade we went to had SF2 thru SSF2 on big screen tvs with big speakers that you heard the boom, bass, and punch of Guile, Ryu, and Balrog’s themes. Even for Killer Instinct and Killer Instinct 2, those were never on our big screen, but we heard the soundtrack and found ourselves turning the game up at night when the arcade was getting ready to close. Some of SF4’s stage themes, and a couple character remixes were decent enough where they were catchy (Decapre, Hugo, Rufus, Bison remixes, and originals like Blast Furnace, Drive-In at Night, Inland Jungle). But others were just not great at all…

The problem with SF4’s soundtracks were they were very soft and too happy. The instruments used were same all. Too much electronic sounds. They were even able to make one of the greatest game themes (Vega’s theme) suck.

Gonna be easy to replace it on PC doe

Both of those are bad remixes of Vega’s theme, IMO.
SF has not had a good OST since SF2
