Oh I don’t have a problem with them with her(I’m a dick); I just think it’s kind of a stupid mechanic to keep people from turtling. I didn’t like the GG equivalent, either. It’s like, if you made the game well, you don’t need to put in an artificial penalty against runaway/turtling players…so why put it in?
you don’t think there should be some sort of penalty from trying to finish off the round with a timeout?
No, I don’t gripe if a round ends with a time out in any other game, why would I there? If you can drag out the match that long and survive that long to win, then more power to you.
well the thing is blazblue has a lot more movement than more traditional fighters with only regular jumps, no airblock, or airdash and the such, it’s a lot easier to turtle if you really want to imo, especially with some characters like rachel and arakune
i think timeouts are fine in games like sf and samsho, but i think if bb had no negative penalty and only a 60 second timer it wouldn’t be as enjoyable
The penalty isn’t “artificial” though. It’s in there because it needs to be there. KOF differs from GG and BB in that the former doesn’t let you jump up in the air and dash back at will. Also, negative penalty isn’t so much put in to curb turtling. IIRC, blocking attacks counts as a “positive” action.
Why put it in? Because without it, characters like Rachel and Nu would be more stupid good than they already are. Rachel has retarded run away capability and Nu can simply dash back and spam more swords. And as a bonus, Rachel and Nu can go on the defensive for much longer than some of the other characters before incurring the negative penalty.
:tup:Well if the converters lag monkey balls thanks for the info my comrade. I guess people will walk around with a separate joystick for ps2, ps3, xbox, xbox 360, and wii. Any body know of somebody who makes a universal stick cause my bag can’t hold 5 joysticks. All in good fun my dude I feel you. Please take no offence, thats jacked up the converters are crappy. So if I get a ps2 joystick and an xbox 360 one I should be covered. I already have a PS3 SE Madcatz stick so I’m good any way. I will be at the tournament in Oak town Fa Sho. If I come to Ann Arbor/Garden City it will be to just practice cause I aint rich.:wtf:
Btw guys Im starting a blog with a few friends on competitive gaming, hit it up.

You can get an MC Cthulhu PCB; it will work on PS1, PS2, Gamecube, Wii, Xbox 1, PC, and PS3. It’s also set up to be dual-PCB moddable with an xbox 360 pcb, and I know the PS1 port on that works with a lot of different adapters for like Dreamcast or Gamecube. That’s pretty much your best option; or dual pcb modding your ps3 te with an xbox 360 pcb that is common ground. I’ve got one in my old Pelican stick, and other than some weirdness about recognition on the PS2 on startup it works quite well. Well enough that I’m thinking of getting another to dual mod my own 360 te stick…
@ Tuffy(Muffy?): I’d argue then that is just poor character design on the part of Arcsys. I’ll grant that both series has more mobility in general than anything outside of the vs. series, but there has to be more effective and less obvious ways to encourage offensive play. KOF did it with their own mobility mechanics; SF2 or marvel seem to do it through sheer damage potential. Hell I can’t even remember the last time I saw a negative penalty in GG due to how that game is set up.
the wheel of comparing BB ver.1 to GG ver.356324512 is turning
…patchtion!
Work is a bastard
Part of the problem for some of us is the drive: I live in GR, so it’s a two hour drive to attend. That’s on top of paying out for parking, gas, and so on. It gets expensive, and work often interferes.
Fun fact: at the last tournament at Digital Ops, by the time I’d parked my car and walked in, I’d been awake for thirty two hours, thanks to Herman Miller freaking out and needing stuff moved up. Never again.
Some of us are trying to get a GR/west side scene going, but it’s apparently barren over here.
