lol at uber for thinking he’s cool for agreeing with keits
Playing with items may be the “right way” (whatever the fuck that means) in Brawl cause that game is intentionally not competitive. Melee is actually a pretty technical, hardcore game and the items just detract from the feeling of having a good 1 on 1 match without all this weird shit dropping from thin air all around you interfering with the fight.
But whatever dude, play how you want. If you have fun your way it’s the right way. I’ll continue to have fun my way too.
But yeah, I like all the sf games. 4 just happens to be the most popular so I’m playing it.
Oh, on the items thing? I’ve had that opinion for years, ever since I went to Acen in like 02 and the Melee set up had 1 on 1 with no items. I disagree that items reduce the competitive nature of the game, honestly. I think part of strategy should be being able to adapt to a changing situation, and that technical skill should not be the barometer for how good a game is. I understand Melee dropped items because of exploding capsules, but Brawl ain’t melee, and trying to shoehorn the Melee ruleset into it is probably why the game is so poorly regarded as it is.That’s just my take on it… I’m tired of hearing Smash fans complain about Brawl and not trying any ideas to fix it other than hacking the game to play like Melee
Gotta agree on #4, just like Grego , Z and others said. You can take a power nap, go piss and still make reversals no problem. No need to piano. But on the bright side, it’s got everyone playin SF again.
Brawl is way more popular than melee ever was, so I wouldn’t say it’s poorly regarded >.<
But like I said, feel free to play with items if you like. I guarantee that all serious tournaments will continue to ban them as long as the game is played, but if you’re just in it for a few fun matches now and then I have nothing at all against using them (I use them myself sometimes, just not when I’m trying to win.)
I agree that I don’t particularly like SFIV, and I hate the huge reversal window, but I play it cuz it’s what everyone is playing. I love Tekken 6 far more, but you go where the competition is. All there is to it.
I was all excited for Brawl for some raisin. I tracked down four wavebirds in good shape and was ready to go.
I unlocked all the chars and didn’t touch it again.
I didn’t really get into fighting games until I was living in Japan from 2004-2005. Some of my buddies there were heavy into 3s and they were trying to get me into it, too, but I just couldn’t get the hang of using an arcade stick. I used to go to tilt way back in the day but even then I was young and didn’t feel like getting whooped around by the high school kids in SFII so I never really gave myself the chance to actually learn how to properly play a fighting game. Even when I was living in Japan I didn’t give myself a ton of opportunity to play because I was more interested in going around the country and cities and getting wasted with the locals. Good times.
Needless to say when I came back to the states I didn’t have my own arcade stick, I didn’t have a copy of 3s and there were no real arcades close by that I knew of (Sterling Heights area). So to me it feels like SF4 is my first real fighting game experience and I think it’s a pretty solid game to start with. I’ve started trying to learn 3s on GGPO but I always end up getting dominated. Same goes with A2 and A3. I REALLY like 3s and A3 I just wish I didn’t have to jump into the thick of it as I feel like there’s no way for me to learn all of the mechanics and aspects when I’m getting air juggled by Cody for an entire round.
In the end I don’t think the games we are playing matter. I think the community here is strong (I can’t compare to previous years) and getting stronger and so long as that trend continues, we could be playing any fighting game and have a good time. At MM all I heard was non-stop laughing, screaming and “OH IT’S THE DREIDEL!!!” That kind of shit makes people want to come out to RanBats and tournaments. The hype and the grudges. The money matches and even the casual play. Even though I can’t make it out to the majority of casual events and RanBats you better believe I still bring my stick to work with me just in case I actually get out early.
Also - For anybody that has been trying to contact me on XBL recently I’m sorry I haven’t really been around that much. I’ll be down for some matches for the rest of the week after like 8pm, though.
PLEASE GOD STOP TALKING ABOUT SMASH BROS! :lame: shits a party game, don’t take it any more serious than that. Plus if you read, grego and I were commenting about the best street figthers, not really your favorite. What defined street fighter in its incarnations while still holding onto the fundamentals and flow.
#2/3: Third Strike/Alpha 3: Cant really decide which one is better, they are both awesome in their own ways. Third strike is fun as hell due to the infinite ways you can play tricks on your opponents. Alpha 3 is great because it really requires solid footsies/spacing/blocking skills. You can take no chances in alpha 3 or you eat a vism… which means you better play a ground game. Both super fun, much better overall experience than sf4.
Key word vism and that’s the game. A3 has a bunch of characters and even isms and still you see the same stuff as marvel 2. Ok your right about A3 cameout before Marvel, but the infs was in the series way before A3 hit the scene. Not that I mind infs in games but in A3 no. Marvel 2 has more options (players like VDO, Joe Zaza) has proven that low tier can hang. Doubt outside V that even X or A will be touch (except Guy and Sim)
HF will be the most pure SF ever IMO. But I like CE’s slow brain thinking style of play. Neither CE or HF play the exact same way
