for coco and whoever else in the area
Papa Rhino: The reason no one plays any of those games anymore is because they suck. CvS2 is a joke, its throwing as many mechanics and characters in a package and calling it a game. MvC2 is played… but who cares about a game where only 6 characters are any good out of 40 something. 3s is amazing, best fighting game ever, never caught on in michigan.
The important thing is SF4 is here and people are playing it. Play street fighter as it was meant to be played, with dozens of people at a tourney.
Older games don’t get played anymore because they suck? I doubt it.
CvS2 is an inaccessible mess of a game, but it’s a damn fun inaccessible mess. The one clear advantage SF4 has over it is that it hasn’t been around long enough for people to decide whether or not it’s deep enough to survive years of competitive scrutiny. MvC2 is even messier and more inaccessible, but I guess the same applies.
Third Strike isn’t as messy or inaccessible, but it’s kind of boring. Fuck it, though, I’ll play it. I’ll play anything having to do with Street Fighter. Even the shit-ass movie game.
MVC2 is the shit. Hell even A3 wanted to be it
Ummm, yes alot of the older games dont get play anymore because they suck. The only reason cvs2 ever got play was because it was the last deuce capcom dropped for a long time. MvC2 is loved by alot of people, but its all just flying around spamming cheap shit… And third strike is still played pretty hardcore in japan/cali, we just never had a fan base… it was me and 2-3 other 3s players when there was any at all.
Best street fighters of all time:
#1: HYPER FIGHTING - It defines street fighter, the game play is pure. Everything is in perfect harmony. Every character is playable, Every character has broken stuff. SHIT TONS OF FUN.
#2/3: Third Strike/Alpha 3: Cant really decide which one is better, they are both awesome in their own ways. Third strike is fun as hell due to the infinite ways you can play tricks on your opponents. Alpha 3 is great because it really requires solid footsies/spacing/blocking skills. You can take no chances in alpha 3 or you eat a vism… which means you better play a ground game. Both super fun, much better overall experience than sf4.
#4: STREET FIGHTER 4!: Yeah its forth, but COME ON it single handedly REGUVENATED the entire street fighter scene. The game play is fairly classic, focus attack can be fun, although easy. The only glaring mistake I see is making reversal window sooo huge, it makes pressure games not worth the risk. Besides that a glorious new beginning. Look at every other first street fighter in each line of street fighter games. SF1, SF2, SFA, SF3NG each of these games is very broken in one way or the other and only got better with time. SF4 started out good and can only get better, by Super Street Fighter 4 Turbo Capcom will have made the best fighting game ever. Actually, make that the BEST GAME EVER.
You mean marvel wanted to be a3, a3 came out 3 years earlier.
grego’s list is pretty dead on. I liked ST a lot, but there in came some unbalance with the old vs new characters. I wish they would narrow the reversal window in 4. that would get rid of a lot of the stupid mashing uppercuts and 360s and make people learn to do them right. Hell ive been messing around on mame playing old fighters and realized, oh crap, i dont even piano key reversals in 4 cause its so easy.
If anyone is going to be down at WSU 2mrrw i’ll be at the game store on campus(working) but hop on in and i’ll see if i can get some games going(hoping no customers are in the store). Wendsday i’ll be down there with my gear in the underground i’ll be there from around 11ish to 7
I’d put ST at the top. It’s worth revisiting time and time again, even though it’s old enough to get a driver’s license by now. Even though I barely play anything anymore, ST is the game I play the most. After that, Alpha 2 and CvS2, in some kind of order. They retain a classic feel, albeit with their own signature mechanics.
I do like Alpha 3, but for some reason, it feels un-Street Fighter to me. It feels more like a different game that happens to have Street Fighter characters in it.
Hyper Fighting and Champion Edition still hold up great, though I haven’t played them much in recent years. It’s nice to revisit them once in a while.
Alpha 2 and 3rd Strike are great. I just recently started playing Third Strike so I kinda suck at it.
Heh I was gonna ask him to do that but I haven’t had a chance too. Mind readers :amazed:
As for Saturday, IDK get ahold of me on aim or live or pm or something.
I’d say that 3s, A2 and SF4 are the ones that I’ll play the most…like goodm0urning said, I like A3…but it doesn’t feel like an SF game to me. shrug
sf4, third strike and…melee for me haha.
i feel so out of place because i was a guilty gear player before i touched any sort of street fighter other than World Warriors back when i was a little shit in a hockey arena (well based on the last couple pages of discussion it seems im still the little shit around these parts)
shit, ive barely even touched ST, i may have played it once accidentally. im stuck in this awkward limbo where im learning all these street fighter games that everyone else has been playing for ages because i cant take GG competitive because those people are just insane
OH man at the Saginaw tourney why does Brawl have to happen at the same time
Well I’m in for sure for probably everything but Brawl.
meh…melee kicks brawls ass…the only thing sweet about brawl are the characters
I second that melee is the only good one >_<
HF is pretty fantastic, and has been my favorite SF2 variation for years. I really, really like HDR, though. As I see it, that game addressed a lot of the issues I had with ST…but HF is definitely more “old school” in feel.
I didn’t like 3rd Strike, though. I gave that game chances pretty much from 01 til pretty recent, and I could never get into it. Partly the cast, partly the gameplay, and also the music was pretty weak for the most part. Plus the one character I genuinely enjoyed playing, Elena, was absolute garbage in terms of damage output and defense, so.
SF4 is fun, but I’ll hold off on calling it one of the best ever until the revisions come along. So I suppose my list for best SF games would have HF, HDR, and uh…A3? Game was pretty ridiculous with the crouch cancels and v-isms and shit, but it was always fun to play, so.
Edit: Also Brawl is better than Melee, but that’s also because I play the game the right way, with items. Also, because I inherently loathe the Smash Bros. competitive playerbase.
I feel like a complete fool for not being involved here sooner. I even have the shame of ignorantly saying years back…I can’t even repeat that foolishness.
NOW, the question is what to focus on? I have been slacking and spreading myself out way too thin. We got Tekken, Blazblue, SFIV, 3s, Alpha 2 , GG, MvC2, and who knows what else I’m forgetting.
And I know I will be exiled for this, but I’ve had some great matches in KOF XII as well…
Just for favorite SF games…
#1: ST/HDR.
#2: HF. I have an SF2 bias, but I don’t care, SF2 is forever.
#3: SFA2. I much prefer A2 to A3, even if I suck at both.
#4: SF4. Stupid reversal timing? Yes. Overemphasis on shitting out links? Fuck yes. It’s still fun though.
#5: SF3. If I could rate it lower, I would. Just feels and plays like dogshit. At least Dudley and Makoto are badass.
