for some, this may turn out to be a pretty decent (or even good!) action film, depending on their tastes. personally, i dont want to see generic uninspired wire kungfu whiffle ball fighting, with little to no emphasis on 1 on 1 fights, and actual SF moves.
anyway you look at it, this movie is not street fighter. doing a reinterpretation (similar to what batman begins did) is not really appropriate at this point in time either, given all the other traditional street fighter media being released. when i see “street fighter” in the title, i expect stereotypes, multiple settings around the globe, win quote one-liners, daigo full parry comebacks, and at least ONE “tiger”.
this is just another pathetic excuse of an afterthought marketing ploy shit movie.

Theres at least two scenes of one on one fighting, from what i can gather from the trailer. Bison vs Chun li, and an earlier a one-on-one fight of Chun-li against Vega, which was confirmed on the movies blog.
Honestly im looking forward to the movie, it looks fun, and kristen kruek has done alot of indy-arty-farty movies, so i’m sure it will be at least mortal kombat good.

A movie, on the other hand, is supposed to be an exploration of the original story, not a replica of the game. All these recent comic book movies are successful because they appeal to general audiences in addition to the hardcore fanbase. The movie you just described would appeal only to the hardcore fanbase…at best.
If it were just a quick cash grab, they would have done exactly what you suggested above and called it a day. Thank goodness it doesn’t look like they did.

I guess this “looks better” then the org SFII movie, however it doesn’t look to be much an improvement. Bison with dyed white/blonde whatever the fuck hair??? Seriously fuck that shit, Raul Julia made for a better looking Bison than this, and the suit…seriously, wow.
Through out nearly 95% of the trailer, I didn’t see a whole lot that made me feel “Well this is Street Fighter”. Or that it at least pulled an essence of SF into it, just the fight scenes alone didn’t feel very SF like.
I mean, seeing Kreuk fight in some of the shots, she did absolutely nothing in that trailer so far that made me feel “Wow, that’s what Chunli would do.” They could’ve actually done better imo if they didn’t do so much wire fights, because for me my example of a sweet on the ground fight was in SFII:AM.
Sure that was animated however the fights in there where very realistic, and the way Chunli moved and attacked in there felt like what Capcom’s Chunli would’ve actually done. Now in here, I see her doing stuff that just simply makes me go LOL like at 0:55 for instance. So yes, in this trailer it didn’t give me any real essence or made me feel like they captured the SF Chunli persona.
Yes, I give that Kreuk “could” pass for a younger Chunli, however the fight scenes thus far within the trailer doesn’t get me excited or want to spend my $$$ towards this. Some will go “its only a fucking trailer chill.” However honestly, when I first saw the LoR trailer back in the day…that shit had the essence of the book, and felt LoR like, and was promising and made dues on that.
I feel nothing remotely like that seeing this, besides it being an Action Movie with the label “Street Fighter” stamped on it. To whomever said spoke of Michelle Yeoh, she was the fucking truth! If only she was 20 yrs old right now, because she would have been a 100000000000000X better Chunli, because damn, Michelle could fucking move, and she had the Chunli like elegance in her fluidity and attacks too.
Seriously, I offer a free kick to my nuts to anyone who can find a chick with enough acting skill that also happens to fit Chun’s body type.
Seeing there really are no girls that fit that type anywhere, yeah.
