^ I see you missed the joke/trolling attempt.
Kevin is not broken. He’s the best in the game yea but not unbeatable.
Petshop - JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure
Wolverine - XvsSF
Guile - World Warrior

Oh and Mag Fuckin’ neto.
video proof of it not being unbeatable tic throw set up

As the description intails
1st clip zangief does a perfect timing tic throw from a connected s.lp and kairi does nothing.
2nd clip, kairi shows the perfect timing to reverse a s.lp that connects but zangief does not perform an spd (just to show the timing of the reversal)
3rd clip zangief tries to tic spd from a connected s.lp and kairi attempts to reverse between the hit and the spd and succeeds
4th clip shows that kairi doesn’t even need to time his DP as a reversal for it to win out
5th clip shows what happens if kairi is 1 frame too late in performing his DP and gets SPDed.
6-10 clips show the above but kairi blocks instead
Everything above was timed and executed with mame-rr and macrolua for frame perfect execution 100% of the time.
I’ll work on his lv1 fab and lv3 fab next.
shinji shut you the fuck down
after some quick testing with the fab and lv3 fab its pretty much a mirror image of what happened with the spd. Only some random occurances of number 5 where sometimes zangief will jump back, or do the fab. for the lv3 fab, in 3 clips 3 and 4 he just lariats and in 5 (when kairi is too late with the DP) he finally gets him in the lv3 fab.
I could record but theres no reason too unless you’re really that stubborn.
Yeah man… fucking Karnov. That godly BALLOOOOOOOOOOOON.
Although personally Clown pisses me off way more. He’s got that super high jump that beats out nearly everybody else when it comes to air-to-air, and really good cross-up, mainly that high cannon ball roll of his that can ambiguously cross-up. Gets me everytime… and it seems like his regular throw does alot of damage too. But he’s far from broken really.
Algol was banned because of infinites, creating unwinnable matchups and generally being boring as fuck to fight. I’m not going to go into whether it was justified or not, but he was certainly explored as a character before he was banned. The bonus characters (Along with CAS) were banned because they’re just clones of characters that already exist in the game, albeit with altered hitboxes. Also next to nobody gives a flying fuck about them, kinda like Necrid in SC2.
On topic, the best examples I can think of off the top of my head are T4 Jin and Metaknight. The top four in MvC2 have enough checks and balances that none of them absolutely dominate over the others, so I don’t feel they should be included. X was ridiculously solid and intuitive in SC2 and SC3, but even then wasn’t enough to absolutely overshadow everybody else.
Maybe this will finally teach people to play the damn game, instead of reading up old crap about it and saying whatever untrue shit that comes to mind.
“Like I said, the fact that due to the engine a majority of the cast has access to really cheap engine-breaking tactics, infinites and TOD/90% combos, EX+@ is pretty broken on a fundamental level. But Zangief is clearly above all of them by a few magnitudes.” lmao, that laughable shit doesn’t even deserve a counter argument…because seriously its just laughable.
BTW, Go Shinji!
EDIT: STFU Hatred.
The Algol ban’s understandable to some degree then, but, on what planet does banning bonus characters because they’re clones make sense? CAS characters being banned is totally reasonable, but, not clones.
The SC community is weird, man.
Arcana Heart 2 Yoriko
Alternatively, Arcana Heart 1.0 Kamui
It’s not that they’re exact clones. There’s range differences (Most notable with the Elf and Shura compared to Amy and Cervantes, respectively) and hitbox discrepancies (Which can lead to pretty weird random shit in a game like SC). Combined with the fact that they were just kinda thrown in by Namco and their aesthetic designs are questionable, many people feel they don’t add anything of worth to the game. Note that I’m not trying to justify this or the other bans, just state the reasoning in a relatively unbiased manner. Algol and Hilde were very controversial subjects within the community for a while. If you want to get a more complete picture for whatever reason, just go on 8wayrun and ask people in chat/dig up old threads/PM me lol.
^ Funny, no-one had to bother doing any banning or think about “questionable aesthetics” in regards to clone characters back in SC1.
No need, I can admit defeat. Maybe I was just getting them with FAB/SPD right when block/hitstun ended? I still don’t see how Zangief isn’t one of the best in EX1 though just because of guaranteed FAB cancel from blocked Super Stomp, ease of meter building with Lariats, his great buttons, awesome AA/crossup game, and gdlk damage output. If you had to choose who would you consider the game’s best character and why?
@ various dick riders - people can be wrong. No need to be an immature douche about it.
Gief is still the best character. Shinji was only correcting the discrepancies and alleged brokeness you were talking about in your posts, which as we played the game know to be pretty outrageous.
His tick throw game is still good, he has great normals, its easier compared to other titles to get around zoning. In EX2 vanilla, he was quite ridiculous because green hand really did make him kinda godlike. They took it away in + and 3, so he’s just solid again.
Top tiers in marvel, the game is so unbalanced that if you remove the current God tiers, you got new set of God tiers XD
Dude, I own the game myself and have played it on/off since it came out. I certainly didn’t copy/paste anything, but just was trying to confirm my findings after trying them out myself (then again I didn’t have access to frame data to really make sure). But you can’t deny there’s some straight-up retarded stuff in EX1 with almost every character, probably even more that hasn’t been found as the game was pretty much competitively D.O.A if I recall (can’t find any good matches on Youtube or tournaments). I can’t really say about EX2&3 as I never got into them as much as I did EX1.
yeah, you need to wait until hit and block stun is over before you can spd/fab them. However its pretty easy to time a tic spd/fab in EX1 This argument came up a few years ago when a few OGs thought that zangiefs tic spd was irreversable in ST and NKI proved them wrong. So it isn’t just you, we just didn’t have the tools we have now back then to really break down the game and see how abusable something really is.
But yes he is still one of the best in EX1, he just isn’t broken. a chunli playing like a 3s chunli raped both me and joshdafunk a few years ago when we were trying to show how strong zangief was in EX1 lol. Though I wasn’t that good on a stick but josh was and we both had trouble against a poking zoning happy chunli.
blocked super stomp to fab can be throw or reversed out of. its not garunteed. but can certainly catch a sleeping opponent.
Lariats really don’t build that much meter though. KKK only builds 2 points super meter per whiff (you need 50 for 1 bar or 150 for a full bar), PPP does a little better since you gain 4 points of super per whiff. But you’ll still be whiffing a lot to try and get a good amount. Plus your opponent who might not have an easy whiffable way to gain super meter will probably start actually playing you and you’ll have a harder time whiffing lariats.
He does have good normals, but a well timed normal from the rest of the cast can still beat most of zangiefs moves.
AA is good, but still potientally safe jumpable (it has 2 startup frames so its really hard to do but still probably possible), and other games AA’s doesn’t neccessarily make them the best.
cross up is good but can be beaten otherwise just block and reverse the tic attempt.
everyone had crazy damage ouput. several characters had kill combos if they started the round with a full bar. other characters bread and butter combos did an easy 70% damage.
I’d still have zangief near the top if not the top of EX1. I just wouldn’t call him broken.
The blocked Super Stomp XX FAB isn’t guaranteed? I thought the Super only animates when it’s a sure thing (i.e., no whiff animation). Do you mean to say that someone can DP/reverse in the middle of blocked Stomp to reverse the FAB attempt, or do you mean blocked Super Stomp XX FAB, THEN reverse?
That’s what I was trying to get at before when I was talking about the whole cast’s ridiculous damage output in that just about everyone’s broken a’la SFA2 (which is still a supremely balanced, competitive game and my favorite SF) where everyone is capable of 70%-TOD with the right amount of meter. EX also seems to have some really wonky hitboxes/priority with certain moves - there’s been times where I can normal someone out of a Super on reaction when it CLEARLY should have stuffed me (common in SF4 with Supers too I find), or I trade hits from really absurd ranges. Some normals like Skullo’s s.Strong, s.Roundhouse, Guile’s Step Kick, seem to have ridiculous hitboxes and stop just about anything done simultaneously (did anyone ever think to do a hitbox/frame data project for the EX series?) When I was playing around with it I also figured out that the frame window to kara out of a cancellable attack is REALLY long compared to other SFs where you need exact timing. I could see how a high-level player could do some really dirty shit with proper application (i.e., fake-whiff normals late into Super/special).
It’s really sad no one took the EX series seriously and had such undeserved hate towards it, much of it coming from avid SF4 players when there are literally TONS of concepts that Capcom blatantly or inadvertently borrowed from it for Vanilla/Super 4. I’ve said for a while that Super and Vanilla were more or less extensions of what Arika and Capcom were doing ten years ago, just wrong place wrong time. I’d love to get interested heads together for casuals somehow… any way to get matches with netplay of some kind?
SFEX didn’t really get tourney play because no-one had an open mind and made judgements about it before even playing it. Not because it wasn’t competitive. All the basics of classic SF are there, zoning, footsies, mindgames. The damage is somewhat high in EX1 but I don’t see it any worse than something like ST and far better than other games that are truly broken. There’s also far less instances of option select throwing in EX as opposed to ST, stupid shit like combos not working correctly, random damage, loops that I could just never learn to like in that game. I honestly never felt like the system fucked me over like some other games.
Anyway, if you like the game so much than why don’t you post in the EX thread like the rest of us? Despite what you say there ARE people who take the game seriously and try to be good at it. We don’t have the tournaments like Peru or Japan but we try the best with what we have.
