The most broken characters in (competitive) fighting games

There’s been a thread like this before. The #1 most broken character in FG history is Noob Saibot in MKT.

What’s up with everyone calling top tier shit broken? The character you’re calling broken isn’t broken unless he or she is better than every other character in the game by a significant margin. So, anyone calling Eddie broken? Stop it. You’re just making yourself look stupid. Same goes for claiming ANYONE in Blazblue CT OR CS is broken.

Also, since people were talking about SCIV a while ago, why did the SC community ban Algol and the bonus characters? I remember that the banning occurred way before any serious testing of the characters had been done.

Doesn’t Rain have an easier infinite then Noob’s in MKT?

Definitely not. Rains infinite actually takes practice, it just looks easier. You can literally have little knowledge of anything MK and be able to do Noob’s infinite rather quickly. And it’s not only his braindead infinite that makes him God Tier, he has a projectile that when hit, you cannot block or hit Noob.

Took me five minutes to find Rain’s and perfect it Rain Ball to Lighting Strike on the saturn and psx (greatest hits). I know Noob’s Projectile will instantly make him more broke then Rain just talking about the infinite.

Type 3 is not broken, but what about Type 2. Do you just call it bad game design? I’m talking mostly about O. Sagat here. I think he’s broken in the way that he’s top/upper tier, but it requires very little skill to be top level play with him. Bad players can compete with top level players just with some practice, how is that not broken?

can you back this up with some videos or tournament results?? sagat is actually pretty difficult to use if you didnt know

What exactly is false? You CAN cancel/kara cancel any blocked normal into a command throw in EX1. I do it. A lot. The only character that ultimately has any kind of advantage in EX1 on Gief is Hokuto because she can run away forever, but it’s hardly foolproof and one mistake means she gets bodied. Other than that there isn’t one character in SFEX1 that has shit on Gief, including Blair, Garuda, Allen, and Darun. Lariat is foolproof AA and crossup defense. That’s fact. On the flipside Zang’s Splash is one of the most difficult cross-ups to counter in general, not only because of the ridiculous hitbox and hella long active frames, but also because he can simply land and FAB/SPD if it’s blocked due to the shorter block stun in SFEX1. A blocked Super Stomp XX FAB is GUARANTEED. That alone is a ridiculously cheap and powerful tactic (Darun can do it too with Super Lariat XX 720). On hit it does about 35-40% damage, and can be cancelled then linked into another one very easily. The Super itself has ridiculous priority and cleanly runs through almost anything. So basically, once Gief has meter it’s almost guaranteed that he’ll get at least 40-60% damage off, and will likely kill them with two or more meters. Meter buildup in EX1 is insanely fast (first attack bonus and reversal bonus nets you almost an entire bar!) and that means a good Gief can land FAB at least twice a match. That = GGPO.

Like I said, the fact that due to the engine a majority of the cast has access to really cheap engine-breaking tactics, infinites and TOD/90% combos, EX+@ is pretty broken on a fundamental level. But Zangief is clearly above all of them by a few magnitudes.

you can’t. I can record it if you want but you can reverse out of it.

All EX2 did against zangief was increase the hit and block stun so it was a much tighter timing to get the tick spd/fab in the sequels. But you can still throw/reverse between the tick setups.

Zangief certainly has some good normals, I’m not arguing that. But they aren’t the unbeatable normals that you’re claiming them to be. They’re certainly not on the level of A2 rose c.mp’s.

Lariat can be strong a AA but so have other specials and none of those ever made a character top tier. Ken and Ryu used to have competely invincible DP’s from WW to SSF2, but in none of those games where they considered top tier (Ryu was close in HF), blanka’s electricity makes him virtually immune to all jumpins and cross ups, but that doesn’t make him top tier.

Try playing him against human opponents and see how well you do. Try it against Jeron, Sabin or Jeron since they’re near you and actually play SFEX.

Dan is the only correct answer

I thought everyone said Ivan Ooze on that thread.

OTK Naruto - GNT 4

It doesn’t really matter much when there’s still an established top tier that consists of more than just him. The old Arcadia tier list from '08 ranked Claw, Sim, Boxer and Chun together with him as S-rank characters (other lists mix things around, swapping Ryu in place of Chun, etc.) but the point is that it’s a top tier of at least 4 other characters in the same level.

Probably one of the stupid end boss characters from KOF.

Noob Saibot

Some character from Samsho…4? All I remembered was that as soon as you blocked his spammable move he could chip you to death.

I’m on the petshop wagon. Can’t really compare online random nubplayers using him and losing and say he’s fine.

Eddie has never been broken. People were fast to jump on the overpowered bandwagon ever since they saw his unblockable setup, but pretty much everyone had some 50/50 guessing setup or rushdown to lead to an insane damage situation. Drills were good, but so were other things when FRC’d (gunflame rush to command throw dust loop setup, FRC’d Millia discs to add more stupid wake up, Axel FRC for building up guard meter to his bomber loop, Venom cue ball rushdown, so on). He had tools that made him a cut above the rest but they by no means made him unbeatable or a match-up as ridiculous as Pot vs Slayer. Top tier yes, broken no.

End bosses don’t count, especially KoF ones since they’re never meant to be used for competitive play.

I’m gonna go with Osaka from Azumanga Fighter.

Kula, Oswald, Gato (leader versions) - KOF XI
Wolfgang Krauser- KOF 98UM
Kevin Rian - Garou: Mark Of The Wolves

Tho none of them r actually broken just really strong, except maybe Kula (cuz she’s real easy 2 use)

actually everyones its Metaknight

title is most broken characters in competitive fighting games. He wouldn’t count even if he was as broken as he was hyped out to be.
