I think it’s based on the amount of damage you do. Lots of gunners run intimidate though so it won’t focus them.
Finally took Diablos down. Really does seem to be the second gatekeeper (after Anja). Beating him is basically an exam for stuff you need to know such as using the environment (flashbugs, pillars), and proper preparation and use of consumables (enough nutrients can help you survive at least one charge).
Another thing I learned, is that this fucker seems to have some misleading hurtboxes when sleeping. Both my failed attempts I’m pretty sure were partly due to me hitting him instead of the large barrel bombs I had placed - even when I was aiming directly at the bombs.
I’m pretty sure that the AI is set to try to attack anyone who’s healing.
There are a lot of tricks you’ll find out eventually for all of them.
Screamer pods are good when anything burrows for example.
I haven’t been successful with the screamer pods. When are you supposed to use them exactly? I try to use one and I get murked.
When he burrows. He’ll pop out and get stuck. Doesn’t work when he’s enraged, IIRC.
Should I use it when he’s tunneling, or right after he pops out?
When he’s digging. After he’s become submerged.

I never found Anja to be a gatekeeper. What pissed me off about him is that it’s difficult to farm fangs from him. I can only manage to get them as shinies which sucks as they are important material for weapons.
Anji is like a baby Deviljho. The Tobi Kodachi is a lot more threatening.

I just got Blue Tail. It’s my first rarity 7 weapon. I now have rarity 7 weapon and armor. Starting to feel pretty epic.
From what I’ve seen, Anja is the point where most newcomers get their first 3 carts. It seems a combination of his sheer aggressiveness and health pool compared to the previous hunts, as well as his wonky hitboxes.

I see they’ve nerfed slicing ammo as expected.
Funny though that, on top of my Pulsar Shooter, I also have a Shattercryst which now seems to benefit from this thanks to the piercing buff.
You can also tranq bomb before you place the traps which can be useful if you need to break a part before you capture them, or worried about another monster like Beetlejuice coming and waking em up(happened a few times).
Usually I’ll tranq em while asleep, put the trap where they’ll move, then shoulder shuffle until I get the GS double overhead, that way when they wake up they get captured.
Does anyone main the insect glaive? tried it last night and was kinda lost. Tired out a couple of the default combos and they seem rather weak. Are there any bnb medium to high damage combos (with or without the kinsect)?
