The Monster Hunter Thread: A Whole New World

Only three more weeks!

I heard MH games are a huge grindfest, in order to get specific rare items to upgrade your weapons you need to grind up to 4-5 hours vs the same monster over & over
I kinda liked the beta though
will prob. end up buying the full game

In MH, you learn to love and live for the grind.

Only monster I grinded for way longer than it felt necessary was Ceadeus. Fuck that thing and all underwater combat.

Outside of that your grind time is based on whether or not you can “git gud” and if you’ve properly prayed to RNGesus.

I’d argue the entire game is grinding and that’s what makes it so great.

It’s not that you just want better gear. You want better gear to kill shit with. And you want to kill shit for better gear.

It’s a perpetual cycle of grinding. Such is the way of the path of The Hunter. :karate:

I agree, series just needs to stay far away from underwater anything.

I feel sick remembering Ceadeus, lagi or whatever decided to not fight me hands up on land.

Stop being a baby. Underwater was great.

Bullshit.

You thought the Ceadeus fight was great? You thought the amazing camera was even better underwater?

Everything about the fight was great.

It’s a loot based action RPG, so you should know what to expect from those games (i.e. grind for gear to fight tougher monsters for more gear).

Thematically it’s cool… but yeah FUCK UNDERWATER COMBAT.

Hate Underwater Combat? Git gud.

It’s all about whether or not you get punked by the Desire Sensor.

They’re grindy but you don’t feel bad about it. You like killing the monsters and the challenge of breaking certain body parts. In a sense the core of the game IS grinding like Diablo but the gameplay itself is a ton of fun.

I liked the Lagi fight. It was a fun change. It was cool from a story point of view. The giant puffer fish in the swamp was annoying because of the water and the visibility but Lagi was nuts. The whole fight reminded me of some Kingdom Hearts or Final Fantasy type of showdown. The whole story built up to it as well so you got a rush when you finally went down to confront it.

Not sure if this was posted here before. But with the latest announcements, it seems that a leak shared some time ago on Reddit is on point.

underwater combat had potential, it was just very poorly executed. Being able to explore the depths of the oceans on certain maps was a cool idea. If they made the depth perception easier and gave you faster and better control over your character I could see it being an enjoyable experience. Instead they just said “screw it” and scrapped the entire idea.

Not that I’m complaining though because MH4 was pretty great, especially with how they gave the level design a complete overhaul because the mounting mechanic.

So…do you guys think we’ll get a sequel out of World if it does well, or just months of dlc (some free, some paid)?

Too early to call for sequels just yet but Capcom did say this was going to be a new mainline series, so it’s pretty likely going into the future.

All the DLC will be free, like the other games.

Frankly I don’t see the point in wondering about a sequel when we haven’t even got our hands on this game yet. Can’t we at least start this candy bar before opening another?

One of my friends requested three days off work when the game drops. I wish I could do that.
