The MMA Thread. BJ Penn Didn't Die #HeDeadThough

Profit.

No seriously though, he understand how the fight game works. Why does Floyd Mayweather Jr. go out of his way to be even MORE of a worthless degenerate hoodrat douchebag than he already is in real life? Because polarizing personalities sell fights, that’s why. Chael gets it, and he does it well. This thread alone has sat here and gone back and forth about Chael Sonnen for like 5 pages straight now. So like it or not, he’s doing something right.

Edgar is fucking invincible, and just finished someone 30+ pounds heavier than himself after almost dying AGAIN in the 1st round. Dana makes a completely inflammatory statement (agree or disagree it’s still a strong ass statement to be making) about Frankie for #2 p4p, and we’re STILL sitting here talking about Chael fucking Sonnen. You tell me what he’s doing wrong here, honestly.

EDIT: oh and for now I disagree with Dana on the #2 p4p thing, Frankie hasn’t owned a division like GSP has yet, despite impressive fights with BJ and Gray. Couple more defenses before we start having this discussion again, imo. If he was to beat Bendo and then someone like Gilbert, I’d be putting him closer to that spot at that point.

Already covered this, timing and delivery. I tell students in my classes this all the time, it’s not what you say but how you say it. He took a simple, relatively unremarkable statement and made it into something more than that.

Bendo might not get the next shot. He may be shit outta luck and Dana had his thump up his ass at the press con without a good answer to give.

You do you guys think is the next person to lose to Frankie “lil Juggernaut” Edgar??? Clay? Gil? Black Jesus?

I honestly do not believe Clay deserves mentioning in that company as either El Nino or The Smooth one beats him.

Remember Dana is also the guy that heralded in the Machida era and called Liddel a G.O.A.T at one time.
I love the guy but he eats more crow then i do and that’s impressive in my eyes.

Pride was never awesome to me. As a kid watching it I felt like they were a crappy WWE lol I was so stupid. But the point remains that Pride even as a kid I felt the fights were fixed and it wasn’t as good as UFC. Mainly because of the many mismatches and to many favors being given to the Jap fighters.

UFC always has seemed more serious to me even as a child so it was no surprise to me when UFC bought them. I keep hearing how Pride was this and that but growing up in that era imo those people have their nostalgia glasses on to tight.

Too much shit about Pride bugged me and just don’t hold it the same weight as others seem to. Inconsistent stand-up and to many guys fighting waaaay bigger or smaller dudes. I hated watching that shit, it was like a WWE sstyle squash match with a surprise rollup pin throw in.

All my opinion tho as long as others enjoy it I have no prob with it.

Jersey strong baby!!!

Jees I have no clue how Edgar gets rocked and just walks around like a zombie in those fights then comes back and goes to town. Just wow. That kid has the heart of a lion. I still have the upmost respect for Gray, that dude is a tank. I just don’t get him dropping so much weight. I can understand trying to have a advantage but gray should try his luck at MW, only if he really walks around at 200.

Jose Aldo keeping that belt for a minute.

And whats up with all the Sonnen love? if he fights silva again its just gonna end with silva ko’n him. Sonnen missed his chance, best believe they fight again and silva will leave no doubt.

hope so as well.

Gray should at least try 170, who knows he may be able to ouy point GSP.

If Frankie drops down he’s fucked. I think I actually saw I little worry on Jose’s face as they kept bringing those to up in each others divisions.

Chael even knows he’s fucked in a rematch. If Aldo can learn to stuff takedowns so can Anderson and we saw that in the Okami fight. Anderson will break Chael and he’ll come up with an excuse to fight again. Chael’s a felon, he has little career options now.
Don’t mistake my praise for love. Anderson has stolen my heart and I will never go back

Because he did that the first time right?
Oh wait Chael beat andy’s ass pillar
To post last time.

Also bro I was enjoying reading your stuff tonight till you said felon now your ass is showing again.
Charges were commuted and non felony.

I don’t follow Chael as closely as his cult does so he was still a felon last I heard well good for him then maybe he will retire into real estate.

I didn’t believe the “Andy was hurt” story until I saw how easy he stuffed Kami’s takedowns. I feel the same way about this rematch as I did about Edgar/Maynard 3: Chael like Maynard fought as well as they possibly could the first time and will do worse the next time.

I picked Frankie to win based mainly on that and I was right. These rematch tend to favor the more talented fighter and Anderson is definitely more talented.

More talented?
Negative sir Anderson has nothing to prove to me by any means but Chael gets shit on for being easily the best grappler in MMA.

I cannot keep calling Frankie’s wins flukes he’s living Chris Leben’s gimmick the man will just not go down.
I truely believe there are several men who can and will beat him namely Bendo,Pettis,Gilbert,Miller ect.

On that note Chael is a god even if he did steal from The Rock.

jose looked really dull tonight.

wtf?

Pettis is free to Frankie imo, take him down all day and beat him up Edgar has great sub defense.
Miller I don’t think is technical enough to beat Edgar in a striking match Edgar by superior boxing and good leg kicks.

The other two are a threat but unless they can quickly sub him after rocking Edgar it’ll be hard to beat Frank because he’ll win on points. Plus Edgar is sitting down on his punches more and putting more power in them, he hurt Gray at least twice in the second before finishing him.

Gray has a arguablely better chin than either of those two so I don’t see the easy fights you do.

Chael is “easily the best grappler in MMA?” your fanboy is showing.

Name one better or more effective?
Grey has a better chin then Ben or Gilbert?
Your fanboy is raging and neither of them will have the accuracy or multitude issue that grey does.
Pettis might get taken down but subbing Frankie being a much smaller fighter then Clay would prove a much smaller mountain to climb.

WEC lightweights > UFC lightweights

just sayin.

Which ones? Are you gonna put Leonard fucking Garcia in that list? lol u trollin

Bendo and Cerrone have proven themselves winners in the UFC so far, everyone else has lost. I still think Pettis will do well also, but right now he can’t say shit. So that’s two or three WEC 155ers, I’d need to grow another hand to start counting off all the UFC lightweights that I think would be favored over the rest of that group. Give me a WEC lightweight besides the ones I listed that you could see making a run at the title.

Maia, Paul Harris, Anderson Silva, Jon Jones, Cain V., Aoki, Jake Ellenberger to name a few.

Dude I get it Chael is good I used to be a fan I KNOW his skills but your going overboard here.

I JUST tonight became of fan of Frankie I am no fanboy. Plus I have been a fan of Bendo longer lol. You throw out insult to quickly without anything to back them up. At least I KNOW for sure your on the Chael wagon I could easily lie and say I was just caught in the moment and don’t like Frankie.

I’m using my knowledge of watching these guys for years and liking ALL OF THEM to give an unbiased answer. If I had favoritism to anyone it would be Black Jesus lmao.

Chael fans are hella sensitive.

Young Justice FTW!!!

Rock however is not lol.

Just a thought on the Edgar 2# P4P : GSP is usually bigger than his opponents and the ones that are bigger than him typically have a HUGE hole in their game ( Alves’ wrestling, Kos’ striking, etc.)

Frankie NEVER has the size advantage in his fights even Aldo cuts weight to make 145. Edgar makes 154 and cuts nothing and likely walks around 158 tops not training. Guys like Crusher, Maynard, BJ, Kenny, etc all cut like 20-30 pounds apiece. They all also are typically more well rounded fighters.

Hell I just realized during that sport science piece on MMA Live that Maynard weighed 172 or something that fucking crazy!

Frankie fans at least have that argument lol. GSP better not lose because I’m starting to feel Dana doesn’t like him much.

Weighing in the 170s is pretty normal for a LW.

Thats my point. That was not that far away from the fight night so Gray was likely still cutting. Goldly does his research very well on fighters and he said when he met with Gray like a month ago he was 200 or so pounds.

I know it’s Goldy but still…I’m much more likely to believe him than anybody else who doesn’t have as much contact with the fighters as Goldly does.

Frankie trainers and friends have been on record saying he’s 160 tops when just relaxing, getting fat eating chips and stuff then cuts to 155 easily by just working out without any real weight cutting.

Gsp has to eat healthy year long to stay at 170, remember his countdown with Kos? That was the first time I considered GSP having a real size advantage over his opponents. Until then I never paid any attention to it.

Goldy may have been…over-exaggerating. Grey is a massive LW no doubt, but 200lbs?? Not even Gleison Tibau cuts from that much weight, lmao.

200 not training just chilling , sure why not, but a month before the fight?? That’s madness!
