Sonnen keeps talking…

Chael Sonnen discussed his fight with Brian Stann at UFC 136 tonight, as well as his skill and attitude.

On his routine: Every day I get up, I do the same thing. I get up at the same time. I walk my dog, I feed him, I go to practice, I coach the kids, and I go to bed. I never felt popular. I never felt unpopular. I never felt rich. I never felt poor. I don’t drive a different car; I don’t use a different phone. I fought Anderson. I didn’t buy myself so much as a new T-shirt. My life has never changed. I just hear it from other people. I hear other people say, ‘It must have been hard for you.’ Or, ‘this must have been exciting’ or ‘you must be happy.’ And sometimes they’re right. You do have the right emotion. Sometimes, I’m thinking, ‘I don’t know what for.’"

On being someone fans love to hate: “I feel [reporters are] asking questions and then sitting there like I’m going to carry the day for them. I don’t mind it, but that’s not how it works. I don’t just sit there on the spot and manufacture stuff.”

His mother, Claudia Sonnen on his persona: “I think to anyone who grew up around Chael, that isn’t really that much of a shift. He used to do that even as a little kid. I have him on tape where he’s just playing on a tape recorder talking like Mr. T. He’s funny, and he’s probably 6 or 7 years old. He had a big (stuffed) bear at home that he would beat up and throw, just like he’d see. So the persona never really surprised me. Now, there are some things that he says that it’s just like, ‘Oh God, I wish you would have run that by me.’ A lot of times when I’ll read some of the things he said, it’s almost like somebody said that and he thought it was funny, because that wasn’t Chael. And I’ll even say to him, ‘Where did that come from? Was that Joe or…,’ and he’ll say, ‘Yeah, how’d you know?’ ‘Well, because that was different than your usual humor.’ But he’s always listening. Sometimes we’ll be with a group and someone will say something, and you can just see him filing that away.”

On his trash talk: “I’ve had people come up to me and say, ‘Hey, you should be more respectful’. Wait a minute. What is our definition of respect? If your definition of respect is lying to someone’s face, I strongly disagree with you. You get these fighters that come out and want to say all the nice things that are lies. They don’t mean any of them. They say them because they think it sounds nice. So now they’re a liar in the name of respect, and then they want to bow to you. Look, these guys will stick a knife in your back and not even stick around to clean up the bloody mess. But apparently, in some perverse culture, that means you’re being respectful – to lie to someone’s face and say things that you don’t mean, to behave with mannerisms that are disingenuous, is deemed respectful. I’m not Joe Confrontation. I don’t think, ‘Hey, if you’ve got a problem with somebody, you should say it to their face.’ That’s not what I’m saying. You can keep it to yourself. Follow the rule: If you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything at all. I believe in that. But if you are going to say something, don’t come out and say a bunch of lies.”

On losing: “Getting knocked down, it’s so hard to get back up. It just takes so long. In wrestling, you could do it that day. You had five or six matches. You get bumped down, boom, you come back and keep on wrestling. You lose on a Saturday in wrestling, the very next day you’re back for five or six more matches. You don’t have to deal with that down time. That’s why fighting is so important that you don’t have those roadblocks; you don’t run into speed bumps. Because it could take you a minimum of three months before you get back in there. So I’m not in a unique spot. But I feel it. I think about it. It’s important to do well.”

Jesus really? I don’t think I’ve ever seen more heart in any fight ever. That moment is so great. Chael did good but Frankie did better this is his night. If Chael wins the belt then it’ll be his night but this is Edgar’s time and he deserves all the respect in the world now.

Gray looked like someone raped his wife I almost felt bad for him…almost. He deserves to lose for not being aggressive imo.

The arguments aside from him falling victim to subs against inferior(mostly) fighters is the only valid one they have.

My hate for Edgar is not directed at his skillset which is great or his chin which is also great but to his super safe pointing it out style.
