The MMA Thread. BJ Penn Didn't Die #HeDeadThough

Japan is gonna be hard for UFC expansion. They would need to sign Crazy Bee and some of those Pancrase cats. Hopefully my boy Mike can get signed or something shit would be awesome to see him fight in japan on tv

Anyone else read this retarded article?

Yushin Okami Promised Title Shot for Win, but Will UFC Reconsider? – MMA Fighting

Thoughts?

Nowhere in that article did it mention that Dana hates asians, really? Well I guess they kinda cant, lol. But saying Okami doesn’t DESERVE the title shot? Pretty silly, imo. He’s more than earned it.

Going the extra mile to make a point that he doesn’t deserve it because he’s on a 3 fight win streak is even more silly. As someone pointed out below Sonnen was on a 3 fight win streak before fighting Silva as well. Not to mention Cote and Leites getting title shots by default. Okami is a good fighter, he may be the Fitch of the MW division but I’ve always liked him. He’s really only been outclassed in the UFC by Sonnen. He easily could’ve beat Franklin if he had thrown a punch or 2 in the first round of their fight.

We all know Silva won that fight vs Okami. Silva is the best mma fighter there ever was by a mile, he’s going to wipe the floor with Okami using his signature tiger knees.

Okami vs Marquardt was an underwhelming fight for a main event both people didn’t do much of anything and the fight could have gone either way no one did anything to make them deserve the win more then the other so I’m surprised it was unanimous decision.

Silva vs Okami is a huge mismatch I doubt it will go past round 2.

Silva is OP and needs to be nerfed

except for gsp.

The author sure makes it sound like Sonnen didn’t do anything wrong…

Its possible… sucks. I used to be really high on Goran Reljic when he first started winning, but it seems like the guy cant get the wins.

Go watch what Mach Sakurai did in his first 18 fights. Before Anderson beat him (Which I believe was after the car accident. It could have been right after.) he was destroying EVERYONE. Anderson still had/has people putting up a fight.

Even so, Fedor Emelianenko’s resume speaks for itself.

Yo Dana needs to shut the fuck up sometimes. Why put down your product like that?

Fedor is was and will always be better then Silva imo.
He consistently fought bigger stronger fighters and TONS of top notch guys, the hardest strength of schedule anyone has ever had over an entire career.
And he has only one real loss to a legit guy.
Silva at least has 2 losses to absolute cans. (his loss to Okami is actually a win in my book.)

Well, 3 out of the 4 losses Anderson Silva has suffered were delivered by Japanese guys. Hopefully Okami will deliver again.

Also, I never saw this fight until today:

http://www.cagepotato.com/2008/04/14/video-anderson-silva-vs-daiju-takase

Highlight of Takase’s fighting career, that’s for sure…

If it goes to ground he’s got an advantage standup, it’s all silva.

Which is why it should have been a draw.

Man, I preach about Silva’s overratedness all the time. All the time. I mean, the dude strugled against Daiju Takase, and couldn’t put away gumby horn. He prety much struggled against against Thales Leites too. GSP easily has a much better resume than ssilva. Hell, he has a better resume than Fedor.

GSP beat Fitch. a guy who might be considered P4P number 2 if it werent for his GSP loss.
Thiago Alves. another P4P top 10 guy
Matt Hughes. Yeah, his loss to GSP was the beginning of his digression, but at the time he was still the most accomplished WW in history, and GSP eviscerated him.
BJ Penn, a top 10 WW even now.

Thats not mentioning all the other good WW he beat inbetween.

Fedor’s only really respectable wins are against Nogueira and Crocop, and I’m being generous with Crocop. Mark Coleman, Tim Sylvia , Kevin Randleman, Andrei Arlovski. those guys don’t really scale up to the guys in the WW division that GSP beat.

Man, the UFC coming to Japan are a lot more complicated than “Mafia” issues. That’s actually the easiest part.

In Japan’s case it’s simply control. The UFC would essentially have to make a brand new company, also call it the UFC and sell that company to a Japanese conglomarate where that Japanese company can have it’s own fights with access to the original UFC’s fighters. That is the way business is done over here.

You really think that’s gonna happen on Dana’s watch?

Note, that happens after all the hating native japanese third-parties go down/are pacified.

Not really. An island with no natural resources? The only way they can stay financially independent is by having complete control of every product that comes through. It’s even worse with pharmaceuticals. Or at least it was until viagra came along. They compromised their principles for that one.:bottle:

But yeah, things like Tokyo Disneyland aren’t actually owned by Disney. They are owned by a Japanese company. I don’t know much about Japanese corporate law, but I’m assuming if the UFC is set up in Japan, than they would have the same model. Pretty much a company like Dreamstage ent. would have to buy the rights to the UFC or a company that Dreamstage fears would.

it seems like it’s like that in most parts of asia. People from outside the country can’t actually own anything. A local has to own 51% and then you own the rest.
