Yes Cung Le was a draw, but not like people think. I went to multiple shows where he was on the card, each show had less and less fans. The first show soldout and set the record for North America, but it was more Frank Shamrock and MMA being legal in California. People outside of San Jose think he is bigger than he is. You would see Vietnamese in the lower bowel waving their Red & Yellow flags, but that number is under 500.
The show will sellout whether he is on the card or not, due to it being a UFC.

Strikeforce with Cung Le and UFC with this card without Cung le, UFC would sellout and Cung Le show would have less than 8,000.
If Cung Le being a draw in SJ was the reason for him to be on that card, they would have matched him up against NOT Vitor Belfort lmao. He’s on that card because Dana wants him dead, for whatever reason. He coulda just sent his family friends Vinnie and Paulie out and accomplished the same thing if he wanted to, I’m sure.

I think the top guys are only afraid of Anderson Silva. I don’t think they were afraid of Wanderlei back in the day. They always wanted to fight him, but Pride wouldn’t put him in the matchups.
Rock said Manhoef, who was a beastly can smasher, but he lost most of his meaningful fights. He looked very intimidating, but I seen guys like Akiyama just take him down and submit him. He has a fucking barcode on his back for Christ sakes.
Rampage had several moments, his highlights are some of the best.

A lot of Pride guys have top tier highlights, because Pride used to sacrifice Japanese fighters to build stars.
There was a lot of squash matches, but it worked building hype for when 2 of them would eventually meet.

Watching this fight again I forgot how many times Jones did some questionable stuff. Hands on the face, on the throat, a headbutt to the stomach. Shady.

Cung’s getting tributed so Vitor can get more hype. I like Danel but he won’t beat someone wih good take down defense and good stand up like JDS ot Jon Jones. Cornier has dencent stand but he has GSP syndrome he only gets away with it on people unsure of their wrestling imo.
Him talking about fighting jones shows me that he knows he’s no where near elite Hw’s. Jones would smash him with a better striking game imo. I think JOn Jones is gonna go the Anderson Silva, Frank Mir route with people not wanting to admit how good he is. Alot of people still don’t give even his wrestling much credit.
