The unified rules will be a bigger nightmare to enforce if they change them often.

That’s why I was kinda surprised to see it coming from Nelson, who wants to work that ground game. I suppose with a rule change, adjustments to ref practices would have to take place as well. So we can’t say for sure that the refs would stand them up for sure. Maybe with more rounds to score and less time per round, they’d be MORE willing to let someone maintain control and just take that round successfully. Who knows, it could lead to even MORE grapplefucking for all we know. Can you imagine the Hardy/GSP fight with 10 short rounds? Oh my god, Hardy would quit on his stool after 6-7 rounds haha. Like fuck this, I quit the SPORT.
I think I like Nelson’s arguments more than I like the potential counter arguments so far, but to be fair I haven’t heard all of them either. My initial reaction was that it would be favorable to strikers over grapplers as well, however I’m not entirely sure that it’s a bad thing, or that it’d even be that big of a deal for the really talented grapplers. With only three rounds to work, if the strikers push the pace more like Nelson seems to think they will, they could be leaving themselves open to those takedowns much earlier.
