The MMA Thread. BJ Penn Didn't Die #HeDeadThough

I thought that was obvious from watching his fight. I was hoping maybe they had some medical update or something.
Ah well. Thank you both; much appreciated.

PS: Sports Science was trolling recently about GSPs pillow fists. Did you see that?

yeah, that GSP fight was bad. I’d say it was even worse than the Wrestlemania main event lol. Just dancing around, jabs, and GSP whiffing overhands

Segal was the biggest earner in UFC 129, because his phone won’t stop ringing, everyone will want to know his secret techniques. You watch, Tony Jaa will come out of hiding, flee Thailand to train some UFC fighters

Couture should’ve swept the leg!

Not a big MMA follower, but ive got to say the most entertaining fight was the Diaz vs Mcdonald fight. GSP technical as he is, is kinda boring to watch.

The injury must have happened sometime in the Alves fight. GSP has fought 4 straight times now while being blinded! THAT’S THE ONLY REASON HE HASN’T BEEN ABLE TO FINISH A FIGHT!!!

/GSP nuthuggers

It’s kinda crazy, it’s like people completely forgot the assing that he put on Koscheck (surprised the doctor didn’t stop that, really), and the pile of attempted submissions on Hardy.

I mean, hate on him for having what is probably his shittiest fight in history with Shields, but his previous fights were nothing near as bad as this one, and at least there’s some reason for it.

so was his eye injured before the fight started or sheilds did that to him? i thought it was shields punched him in the eye, thats why i saw on the replay.

Pretty 100% certain it was during the fight, pretty much all of Sheild’s jabs were straight to GSP’s left eye during the bout. There is one point in the 2nd round GSP gets hit and winces and backs off for a while. The take down at the end of the 3rd probably did the most damage, looked like he got a thumb in the eye that time.

GSP was throwing Chuck Liddell Overhand’s with little success, he had him in trouble, and didn’t follow Shields to the ground after that kick or the knock down because he was afraid of him pulling gaurd.

GSP fought a sloppy and safe fight. Shield’s pillow hands destroying GSP’s face was hilarious though. GSP looked like he was in a war lol. He was afraid of JAke’s grappling so he avoided his usual takedown, clinch, force against cage and pick apart style.

IF Shield’s had good stand up he could have actually stolen the fight. IF this was Thiago Alves and GSp refused to go to the ground, he would have been wrecked.

Seriously why didn’t shields attempt to commit to a takedown in rounds 4 and 5, GSP by then was mouth breathing and had one eye.

Besides that, the card was epic, Bendo unleashing UNR, The Janitor doing what Lil’ Nog should have, The Pre-lims being sick I mean Rory MCdonald going Kurt Angle with those 3 german’s, Crane Kick to Cap’n America, The Aldo/Hominick fight will be talked about for years in terms of "the fight that showed Aldo was Human, and that Hominick was the Machine.

And ending with a sloppy 5 rounder that people didn’t want, but knew they’d get.

Announcing the 129k bonus made everybody fight harder. Backhand to end the night was class.

I want to see Nick Diaz vs. GSP now. Nick would bring the fight to GSP and his BJJ is astounding off his back. Plus it would be that Payday Diaz is looking for.

Yeah they kept showing replays of a jab that might have hit him in the eye, but that makes more sense that it was a finger or thumb. I can’t give him too much crap then, since he really was injured mid fight. And I still don’t give him much crap for Hardy or Koscheck either. Hardy should have tapped to that, give him crap for not breaking his shit I guess but he wasn’t just laying on him for 5 rounds. And I thoroughly enjoyed the beating he put on Koscheck. I’m almost glad he didn’t finish that, gave me more time to watch the stupid look on that asshole’s face.

He’s not #1, I’d put him behind both Anderson and Aldo, even after the Hominick fight. But can you really think of someone you’d replace him with in the top 3? Too early to say Jon Jones, but I will admit that in the future, that could be coming. But not yet. And that’s the only guy I can even think of making some kind of argument for.

it would make more sense…if ya know, we didn’t have video of him getting socked in the eye.

There is no reasoning with the GSP nuthuggers. They are very loyal in their defense of their hero. Until he loses anyway. Then they will all claim he was garbage the entire time and they knew it all along, just like they’ve done for Chuck, Cro Cop, BJ Penn, Machida and Fedor.

UFC’s HD broadcast isn’t that baller, you can’t see a cornea get scratched lol. It’s possible that it was either of these things, but people have gotten punched in the eye before without going blind.

i’m just saying i’m more likely to believe it was the punch than a thumb during a takedown bcuz jake’s only “takedowns” involved him flailing at GSP’s legs…that said, it was funny how busted up GSP was compared to jake looking fresh and ready to hit the club after he showers up after the fight.

fuck the canadian crowd for not giving up benderson is “AMEN!”

EDIT: i’m obviously late on this one, but “holy shit!” @ machida for pulling out daniel-san’s moves.

Fucking GSP knows exactly two punches: jab and Liddell-ugly-ass-overhand.

Please, Freddie Roach, teach this Canadian hooks and body shots. If GSP knew how to go to the body with hooks and straights, Shields would have been out of there so much sooner.

Shield kept his guard incredibly high the entire time, couple this with his amateur movement (leaning and walking straight back), his body was exposed the entire night. GSP didn’t once capitalize on it. Wtf.

The thing is, GSP could have stayed all up in Shield’s face and work the body too, because there was absolute NO threat of Shields taking GSP down from the clinch. NONE. Shields offered no threat the entire night of takedown.

GSP’s jab is coming along nicely, but this guy has nothing else to follow it up with besides a very predictable and very average right cross/straight. And I’ve never seen him put together a combo that went past 2 punches. And the fucking leg kicks were missing from his arsenal the whole night, too. What the fuck. The time he spent on throwing those meaningless spinning back kick, he could have followed one of those hundreds of jabs with a leg kick.

Fucking GSP, so frustrating to watch that fight. Simply gave Shields WAY too much respect. If he does that with Diaz, he’s gonna get fucked.

That shit was amazing. Fucking Steven Seagal kicked him into retirement.

haha the crowd was funny to be in. Until hominik came out it was Britney who got the best reception whenever they put her on the screen hahaha.

Our seats were pretty good. I had a good view of the action when it was stand up but when it switched to clinch fighting or ground id look up to the screen. Definitley worth my money spent (although 10 bucks for a tallboy was a piss off). I was hoping for a more intelligent crowd who wouldn’t just cheer for the Canadian fighters (seriously, you’re booing Jose Aldo and Lyoto?!) but whatever.

The fights were great! 4 Knockouts, Diaz got tossed around like bitch, and the Aldo and Hominick fight. Well worth it.

hahaha we saw sumtin in him a long time ago man. and it wasnt a puff of smoke.

I’ve just been lonely swingin’ on his nuts since forever. Rock always teases me because I cling so tightly :frowning:

GSP plays it safe and doesn’t try to finish. He doesn’t deserve to be #1 p4p

I don’t like him even though I’m Canadian. He always has re-hearshed answers in interviews too so boring

The other fights at UFC 129 were interesting, only GSP’s fight sucked
