You know I’m glad thrust brought up the stoppage in the Daley-Diaz fight and this whole weekend I was trying to figure out that one Lesnar fight where he was getting beat like a runaway slave but the ref didn’t stop the fight. Then when Brock started GnP’ing the other fighter for like 6 seconds they stopped the fight.

The shit is watered down, whether it is free or not period. You can watch Junie and his Brother on free televised cards, I’ll tune in on the last 3 fights if they have some meaning.

he fell on his face (no stoppage) rolled around and then diaz jumped on and he got to guard (at which point big john stopped the fight…with like 4 secs left in the round). diaz was on flat on his stomach twice and was (rightly) allowed to continue.
the second one he got koed for a split second. daley is floppin cuz hes not used to not bein on his back…but he was in no way out of it. he was fighting still, he was movin on his back…he may not be tryin to work dat bjj or wrestling but it does not mean he was about to get killed.

I have watched live in person Pride Final Conflict 2006 in Japan, as well as 4 live Strikeforce shows in San Jose. I know what I’m talking about, if you catch feelings get a therapist. I have not gone to a live UFC yet because the cards are not worth me flying for. I should have went to the one in Oakland but I didn’t.
I don’t need to watch scrub fighters for internet credibility to be a fan of MMA. Count to 10 and breathe, everything is going to be alright.

My point of posting the Pride event I went to was to show you what the cards were like before the shit was watered down and I was already in the fold. I didn’t just start watching this morning.

Pride I like the show, the fighters were great too.
I’m not even a fan of Japanese fighters, but did like when Sakuraba beat Royce.
I didn’t mind the occasional squash match, why do think everybody though Shogun was so good?
Smashed Japanese cans and had a good 2005 run, other than that he has not been impressive besides the Machida win which is a good one.

Damn, all this SF talk made me remember that Maximum Fighting Championship 29 went down this past friday up in Toronto. I must say the fights were a little more exciting than Strikeforce’s.

Not Crocop and Wand of today, back then those guys were on the top of the game, whether they deserved it or not is debatable.
Was Pride smoke and mirrors? Maybe, but as far as hype leading up and going out of that card plenty on your list are weak and forgotten.
What i am getting out of this is the same thing i heard when we went from the Tank Abbot and Dan Severn days to the Pride Dominance Era.
It’s not the product i watched and i do not like the evolution of the sport.
Fact is the sport has grown and evolved and 90% of the fighters today would GGPO the fighters of the 90’s and early 2000’s quickly and effectively.
This is not an argument that some of the rules need tweaking nor that the current judging is in any way accurate for all fights across the board or even done by people who have any MMA exp.
We pretty much universally agree the system has huge flaws but there is a lot more civil treatment to the fighters anymore believe it or not.
Look at the adjustment in the rules from then to now and you will see this is fact.
I have also attended numerous events local and big promotion wise but all this proves is they are good at separating me from money and i mostly left happy.
