Not a good fight to bring up since Arona was beating his ASS before the powerbomb
Stylistically, this is a BAD fight for Thiago. Despite how many times Rogan and Goldie like to bring it up, Thiago is NOT an elite striker at 205, his stand-up, while powerful, is VERY sloppy and he has poor defense. The one thing he does better than pretty much anyone else at his weight class is GROUND AND POUND…he’s fucking amazing at it, but I don’t see him taking Rampage down. Rapmage has both excellent striking defense and very real power, as well as a granite chin. I think he’s gonna dictate where the fight goes and push it to his pace. It DEFINITELY isn’t a hopeless fight for Silva, but he’ll no doubt be the underdog.
I’m not sure what I’m looking at that would disprove my comment? All I’m seeing is that most of Silva’s strikes came from on the ground. Maybe I shouldn’t haven’t thrown “kicking his ass” out there but Vera was definitely winning the standup.
If we’re going to nitpick words, then fine - he has a puncher’s chance and there is always the chance of a decision. I still don’t think Thiago can beat Rampage though, KimuraLOX stated the reasons why very well above.
And yes, I didn’t think Edgar could beat BJ. (I was actually hoping for a Miracle in that situation) but that was because Edgar had a hard time finishing fights and I doubted he could pull a decision win against BJ. I don’t think the situation is the same in this case.
Nah, not gonna play that card. Rock knows his shit. I just think he likes Thiago in this fight, which is OK. My hatred for 'page is well documented, and as much as I’d love to see him get KO’d, I just don’t think Thiago has anything near what it’ll take to do it. (of course, you can win without KO’ing anyone - Edgar proves that often these days…)
I think that Coker wanted to guarantee that the two most marketable fighters meet to create a super fight. Do to so, they created the compromise of having Fedor and Werdum/Overeem meet in the bracket asap, instead of putting them in danger of random mma defeats. In the current bracket, the only losing situation for the fans is if Bigfoot randomly KO’s Fedor.
Also, because the finals will be against someone on the b-side bracket, the A-side loser (Fedor/Overeem/Werdum) will be in place for an immediate title contention following the tournament.
I’m confused, M-1 signed the new contract with Strikeforce, but I thought Fedor only had one fight left with M-1? Why the fuck would he sign with M-1 again in this deal with Strikeforce (from what I understand Fedor didn’t have stock with M-1, his manager did) when he could probably still make more money on his own signing with either UFC or Strikeforce?
Mafia’s got him by the balls? Somebody clue me in one this…
Alistair should just fight Fedor, fight in the finals of the HWGP and then head to the UFC. If he wins the belt there, I honestly think he could accomplished everything an MMA fighter should do. All he has to do is win a ADCC and he’s set.
While I agree, I also have to think that an elite level fighter should have known better. I think Fedor got overconfident. I don’t see him making the same mistake (or any similar ones) again.
Yeah. Everyone makes mistakes, though. But it’s almost surreal how he loses once and everyone’s acting like he’s Ali in the 80’s or that he hasn’t been putting in work for the last ten years. Even if he was fighting exclusively cans (which he hasn’t) that’s still an impressive feat.
That Gracie breakdown isn’t really saying anything common sense should already tell you.
Fedor stuns/drops Werdum and dives onto Werdum like Werdum is a an ovulating spread eagle Natalia Vodianova who just broke up with her boyfriend and is looking for some emergency dick, and leaves himself open for a triangle. He gave Werdum that win.
Wow I just kinda sorta had my mind blown (not really, funny though)… maybe im not the only one that noticed this but uh
a couple years ago Frankie Edgar was on an episode of True Life on MTV and now he’s champion
and then recently we had that show World of Jenks where the guy followed Anthony Pettis and he became WEC champ
now they could potentially fight each other haha
To pull off a triangle, you need skill, flexibility, and you need to constantly shuffle to get the guy into the position. Fedor didn’t “give” himself to Werdum, and it wasn’t luck.
I think that Werdum baited Fedor to go into his gaurd. If you watch fedor tapes he does not care he will go into the gaurd of the best BJJ guys and more often than not fight off sub attempts or in some cases KO people. Fedor punched wildly, and Werdum kept moving up aborbing some big shots, then When he was at the right position latched on a triangle. Fedor moving wildly helped Fabricio synch it in.
