She is the one of the worst characters in Mercs. If she was in regular Mercs, she might have been better, but in Reunion she is not good (on most stages at least). That tier list is all lies. Also her melee (Flame Spray) sucks, because it does only 800 damage (some enemies will survive).
Here I need to point out two major differences between Mercs reunion and regular Mercs, In Reunion spared time costs less points, MUCH less, instead of 1000 per second it gives you 300 points, and the second thing is the combo counter. Every enemy you kill gives you points depending on the combo counter, that bonus stops growing at 50 kills in regular Mercs and it doesn’t stop growing in Reunion. So to get the highest score you HAVE TO kill a Boss as your last (150) enemy. So basically melee moves matter less in Reunion, say you have a time bonus worth 90 seconds and a Boss (being your last enemy), you don’t have time to both kill the Boss and get the time, in Regular Mercs you would get the time (and drop your combo), but in Reunion geting time would only give an additional 27,000 points while killing an Executioner (in Public Assembly) as 150th enemy will give you 100,000 points. So that’s why Excella is the best in Reunion, she can get some melee kills (they are still important) but the best part about her is the ability to keep the combo going. The most common things that break your combo are Cephalo’s, Duvalia and Bosses. She has flash grenades for them all, she uses them to kill the first two and not to kill the Bosses too early (you want to spare them till the combo hits 120-140).
Some melee’s will prevent Duvalia from appearing. Also they are NOT random, every Duvalia or Cephalo is scripted, so if you play a lot you pretty much know when to expect them.
Now last but not least, thank you for a good time Saitsuofleaves. It was a lot of fun, sorry for not being able to play longer, it was almost midnight here and I need to get up early (working 8:30 am till 6:00 pm). We should play again, I might help you unlock the rest of the stages for Reunion (if you haven’t already).

P.S. I hope Jill has her Flip Kick as a move in MvC3, it is like a Double Cannon Spike, doesn’t get much better than that.
The fact Jill is a blonde Nina Williams lookalike in MVC3 and will most likely have a move set that won’t involve zombies speaks volumes about the mess the Resident Evil series has become. RE4 was an amazing departure, but it shouldn’t be the new convention. Get your ass back to survival horror RE!
You guys do realize that if RE5 hadn’t made that departure, RE4 very likely would’ve been the last RE in the series. Though unlike the SF4 thing, it wouldn’t have been because of sales, it was just pressure and boredom. But take that as you will.
Regardless, there’s no point in TRYING to be scary for RE. What made RE scary was fear of the unknown. What caused that were the fixed camera angles and those fun tank controls that made you feel like you had no chance. With the controls and camera now, you can see everything coming. Short of trying to go for the cheap scares, it’s just not going to happen.
RE4 wasn’t scary whatsoever. You were never TERRIBLY short on ammo either.
The true RE will never come back. So you have to ask yourself, would you sacrifice controls just so you can feel like playing RE again? Because honestly, lack of ammo and the controls are what made RE.
The Outbreaks were absolutely terrible and you want another one? I’ve played every RE since the beginning (except 0 and Dead Aim for reasons I’ve already explained) and I feel like I have to slap people every two seconds.
Hell yeah I want another one. I love em just because they’re scenarios and not one continuous storyline, less limiting, more opportunity for interesting locales (Zoo holy shit).
Course my favorite in the series is REmake. But yeah an Outbreak on modern consoles would be amazing what with the online co-op.
Controls weren’t part of the fear. Plenty of good survival horrors have very intuitive controls and even third person (Dead Space and Fatal Frame). It’s about suspense, atmosphere and being minimalist with your big scares. Saying clunky controls are parts of a horror game is very… puzzling…
And why would RE5 have to conform the RE4 model to get made? RE1-3 were pretty popular. Besides, that still doesn’t excuse the fucking ASS inventory in RE5. And the toning down of the gore…
I actually really liked Outbreak, I feel it was a very underrated game. Never played Online however so I can’t really judge the game in that reguard. Honestly it’s flaws could easily be fixed and a new one could be made.
Doesn’t matter though because the Gamecube remake of Resident Evil 1 was the perfect Resident Evil game. The camera placement, the lighting, the game design, it was all just so perfect.
Who cares if they tore down the gore, that’s only scary to weak stomached people and children. Gore isn’t scary, it’s atmosphere like you said. The chanting in Resident Evil 4 (as well as that guy in the fucking oven) and the superp lighting are what made Resident Evil 4 scary at times though it still fails incomparsion to the wonderment that was the police station in Resident Evil 2.
Dead Space isn’t that scary. It’s more a cheap scare ride than anything. I got over it pretty quickly.
Why did RE5 have to conform? Pressure from Capcom plus crap sales of CVX and the Outbreaks didn’t help. And by crap I just mean dwindling. Outbreak sales were really bleh though.
Well it’s subjective, but Dead Space had a really nice presentation and was pretty faithful to survival horror conventions. Fatal Frame is very well regarded. Siren for the PS2 is pretty under rated (that actually gave you enhanced vision to increase the horror. Give it a look.) Bio Shock has a lot of scary moments. Nothing written anywhere that fixed camera = horror.
Fair point on sales though, I agree that RE4 being as successful as it was would mean Capcom would stick to the formula, but I don’t think they ‘needed’ to do this to get it made. Still think RE5 was a bland rehash that failed to improve.
I’m not dissing Dead Space by any means. But I get scared easily and I got over it so…yeah. Fatal Frame I know is good, but its premise really served them well. I know Fixed Camera = Horror, but I’m saying it did for RE. Outside of that, it wasn’t really that bad.
And again, not disagreeing on RE5 but most developers phone it in on sequels these days. Just be happy RE5 at least gave us Mercenaries, not to mention expanding on it on the 3DS.
But RE has reached the end of its rope hence the need for a reboot. All the characters are near superheros right now. They don’t blink at BOW’s now. What made early RE’s great was that you can be scared and amazed like the characters. Now, Chris and Leon see a BOW they’re just like…yeah…whatever, I beat hundreds of you the other day…
Agreed. I’d love a RE where you play a rookie STARS member and the zombies are more of a threat. That’s why I’d like an Outbreak sequel. Great premise that deserves better execution.
