I have no idea. Yikes, I sucked really bad man. Sorry I let you down.
It’s fine. I’ve had better days myself. But remember, the main kill you go for in Mercs is a Melee kill. It adds 5 seconds to the clock, and depending on the attack (Jill, Rebecca to name a couple), completely cancels out a possible transformation.
Not to mention, as Heavy Metal Chris, don’t forget that Stun Rod. If anything, THAT’S what makes him great, not just the Gatling Gun. Stun Rod not only counts as a Melee Kill when it kills, its damage is multiplied when used against a transformed Majini. On top of that, with it equipped, he doesn’t run like a slug.
That… makes a lot of sense. I’ll remember that for next time. If you’re ever up for doing Mercs with me again, message me or something. Maybe we could do regular next so I can unlock Wesker and Jill, lol.
Yeah, and meleeing is not that tough when using the right character, plus it saves ammo. Best characters in Mercs are those who have instant kill Melees that avoid transformations, plus guns with low Critical Hit rates (as to avoid killing enemies by shooting them). Also it doesn’t hurt if they have a powerful gun for bosses.
Like, Rebecca has probably the BEST Melee in the game, as it’s a projectile that counts, can be done from head shot and shoulder shot stuns, and can kill multiple people that get in the way. She also carries 2 First Aid Sprays. Problem is, her weapons are garbage…
In the reverse, Excella has excellent weapons, one First aid Spray, and a Grenade Launcher pre-loaded with 12 Flash Rounds which are EXTREMELY helpful. Problem is, her handgun is almost too good, as a full on burst will kill lower Majini, and even if you can set up a Melee kill, only her High Heel will do it, which only works on a headshot stun, which is very hard to pull off with her handgun.
Knowing your character helps.
Rebecca is the best in every way. Character wise, melee wise, and gun wise (her SMG makes melees sooooo easy)
Except the part where when a Boss Majini comes rolling around she’s a sitting duck.
Jeez, I gotta strategize more for Mercs. I didn’t even notice the melee kills thing, damn. Thanks for the pointers.
Yeah, when I got the DLC, I went digging. Mercs is surprisingly more deep and complex than I originally thought. Hell, there’s even a tier list I’ve randomly stumbled upon for overall Mercs.
Top:
Midnight Wesker, Barry, Excella, Rebecca
High-Mid:
Business Sheva, STARS Wesker, BS Jill, Fairy Tail Sheva (meh…), Warrior Chris
Mid:
BSAA Jill, Josh, STARS Chris, Safari Chris, BSAA Sheva, Tribal Sheva
Low-Mid:
BSAA Chris
Low Tier:
Heavy Metal Chris (ouch), Clubbin Sheva (she’s Roll Tier in my eyes)
the best part though is that most of the characters have stages where they excel and others where they falter.
Thats why you play with a buddy!
When I don’t use her I use Fairytale Sheva, shit’s golden.
Well of course. Not saying Rebecca’s trash or anything, she’s one of the best characters in the game. But her weapons…leave more to be desired.
but shes so kawaii
Well no one owns Experimental Facility like Rebecca so there’s a positive.
Heavy Metal… low tier? Really?
He’s like a SSF4 Makoto low-tier. Aka misunderstood. You have to put work into him to make him good. But where Melees are king, he’s tough to use. You have to be a master with the Gatling Gun to set up Melees. Stun Rod’s range is also deceptive.
However, he is the only one that can melee Bui Kichwas in Reunion with his Stun Rod. Basically, like Makoto, a master can make him great…anyone lesser won’t get much out of him.
I thought the point of mercs was to get a good high score? Can’t you just grab all the time/time bonuses, back into a corner and rack up a huge multiplier until the mission’s over?
Well think of it like this. With melees you can keep moving to hit combo times. On top of that, 150 Melees (this is obviously what you want to strive for, though this rarely happens) x 5 seconds = 750 seconds = 12.5 MINUTES. On top of that, some enemies only spawn when you roll into a certain area, so you have to move eventually (noticed how on Ancient Ruins, we went a minute without seeing a soul yet we only killed 75 Majini?).
Lastly, some melees can again, avoid Cephalo spawns, which means less chance of your combo getting fucked up.
Oh snap, you’re right. I’m seeing some Mercs runs on youtube that go for over ten minute or so, that’s awesome. I thought we glitched out in the ruins, lol. This makes so much more sense.
Yeah, seeing those YT runs changed up my game considerably. And I did see a couple with Heavy Metal Chris getting the full 150 combo so it’s not out of the question. Just have to play to his strengths.
Yeah, true. The pro’s on youtube never seem to encounter any Duvalia either… even when they just shotgun everything with Midnight Wesker.
Because they know exactly what to shoot and know which would turn and which wouldn’t…either that, or they’re just lucky.
