The Master List of Fighting Games (constantly updated)

You should mention some of the games that are available through the PS3 store, like Blue Breaker Burst. I’m gonna cop that shit when I can get my hands on some PSN cards. :woot:

for cultural knowledege

(not really popular if you ask me, maybe they deserve a new tier list)

only one more thing, you should put Evil Zone / Eretzvaju, because not many people are happy with the crappy american version

Kenju and Force Five as far as i know were cancelled.

they dont appear as cancelled here
http://www.system16.com/hardware.php?id=812

but of course, they could be wrong, i already heard about their cancellation, but no one never knows in this days

System16 wasnt updated since 2006, sadly, because is an awesome site. Those games were cancelled, trust me (sadly, Kenju was some type of spiritual successor to Rival Schools or something like that).

This thread is f’n top tier. I have a crap load of fighters and been trying to figure out which ones I want to learn and which ones I just want to play casually. This list definitely gives me a better sense of direction. Mad props TarkanX.

Melee should be, without a doubt, in the tier 1 list. There are dozens of Melee tournaments in the US that get 40+ entrants, and big tournaments are known to get 150+ entrants even with the release of Brawl. Brawl is NOT a replacement for Melee. Though Brawl is more popular, the Melee scene is still doing very well, and is vastly larger than the scenes for the games in its current category. It should definitely be moved to the top tier list.

Excellent effort here…

I see Aggressors of Dark Kombat and Smash Bros on the list…if those two games fell in love, got together, and adopted a baby that looked nothing like them, the result would be Urban Reign for PS2.

It was advertised as a beat em up, but in reality, its gameplay and its VS modes (where the true longevity resided) sort of resembled a grittier, urban, Smash Bros.

I know the definition of a fighting game could be argued till the end of time…but Urban Reign has supers, parries, juggles, reversals, wake-up game, and combos…so, at least on the surface, it resembles a fighting game.

Tekken 5 is outdated, by Tekken 5 DR is in tier 1.

Yeah, I haven’t added any new games after May, I’ll get to that.

That’s what I thought, I’ll make the change.

I’ll add Urban Reign to the casual games section.

Notes: Added a “just released” section.

I think it’s simply due to the lack of a good base moveset for characters.

You had to put so much time into just playing arcade mode before your character got interesting. and that’s a little to much to commit to when you are just trying to see who fits your playstyle.

I think the customization was a very well implemented idea. but it’s also what killed it’s chance at a community imo.(At least in the states)

If they do ever get around to that sequel that was talked about, they need to have fleshed out base characters in addition to the custom ones, so players can see what a character can do without having to spend hours playing with their bare bones versions.

I’d really like to see this game do well, as it’s probably the most interesting anime fighter on the market. System is too good to go to waste.

For Marvel at least, I think there should be some kind of warning that the game is broken. New FG players that want to try games from this thread might be a little upset that they can’t use the chars the like in Marvel and do well. Though I can’t see why anyone wouldn’t like Magneto. He’s just too fun.

Casual Games…Weapon Lord? Probably the most underrated 2-D fighting game of all time.

Guilty Gear XX Accent Core is also on the Wii.

Also great job on the OP.

You could probably add KOF 98: Ultimate Match to the Just released section, although it is apparently a popular tourney game in Japan at the moment. I wouldn’t be surprised if it took over for other SNK fighters after evo here in terms of tournament popularity.

LOL I can’t believe you even got Cosmic Carnage for the Sega 32X on the list. I thought I was the only person who was dumb enough to buy that pile of crap, LOL. Good Job!

I have this on Gamecube.

Edit - What about Sonic the Fighters?

Out of curiosity, wouldn’t the original King of the Monsters game (Not sure about the second one) count more as a wrestling game than it does a typical versus fighting one?

Actually, I retract the Lord of Fist comment as it’s pretty limited in the moves department, though it does come close to counting as a versus fighting game.

shouldn’t kof kyo be off the list since it’s an rpg?

otherwise awesome job man!!!

I might make an Argument for Armored Core but know I’ll get flamed/ignored. Our community used to hold an Annual Major called The Master of California, where it’d be the best AC players from Norcal VS the best from SoCal(plus a few travelers from out of state) in the middle of California: Fresno State University. That and we haven’t held a major(of which there are documented results at armoredcore.org) since 2006. Armored Core 4 being online and multi-platform kinda killed the live tourney scene for us.

Just wanna drop some thanks for TarkanX for this list…While you can’t please everyone, this list is brilliant.
