he needs to add BlazBlue too, to the list of competitive games, im not sure if in the 1st one cuz this is the first year of the game in the sbo, and evo wouldnt have it until the console release
Does Zero Divide count as a game to add ? It’s a 3d fighting game similar to VF , only with mech robots as characters . The game isn’t that great , since it’s gameplay is very similar to VF , which already makes VF better than ZD if it has a better scene than what ZD has ( 0 ) .
Rumble Fish 1 and 2 are there, I put it as “The Rumble Fish”, so it’s in the “T” section (I have a bad habit of doing that). That is another thing I’m going to have to change for the list.
Interesting list. Where would you put Virtual On : Oratorio Tangram? It came out recently for XBLA.
Outside of Japan, it is mainly online, but the online is PACKED. Always opponents online, plus they are incredibly good. Lots of top tier players playing. I’m west coast and I can play people from Japan and Europe in an almost lagless experience. Sega just recently successfully held 2 online 128man tournaments. Their last one even had a spot for final 16 to non-japanese players similar to SBO open spots.
As more and more games head online, competition-wise, VOOT is 1st-2nd tier. Most people can’t always be at an arcade everyday or any moment. In VOOT, you can. In most fighters, you’re usually up against the local champion which can be ‘meh’ and when you win you get big undeserved ego boost. In VOOT, your ego will get stepped on over and over again. You are constantly fighting against the “Daigos” and “Ohnukis” overseas. At the end, your skills will crush the local competition with ease, meet new friends, and return for more punishment.
I guess it would fit in the “Online only” category, at least outside of Japan. I don’t know how popular it currently is in Japanese arcades, so it might be “Online only” for Japan, too. Luckily it is quite playable online!
First off, I have to say kudos, dude; when I looked to find something like this, I was actually quite surprised I found anything remotely what I was looking for and to the degree of completeness and accuracy this even has. It is very nice to get a sense of what the other scenes are like compared to the one(s) you know and it has given me a few suggestions in what I would be interested in playing (such as which Guilty Gear is the best to get into right now). Very nice, indeed.
That being said, I’ve got a couple of things to say:
This is completely correct. In fact, Melee is currently making a comeback; while it doesn’t have the tournament scene Brawl does, it is far from dead and there have been quite a few tournaments especially on the west coast.
Also, while I don’t personally play CVS2, one of my friends who was into it told me about how it was dying off; this was about a year ago and is part of the reason why I never got past playing by myself in my dorm (the other being that I didn’t know anyone around me who played). A quick google search seems to confirm this. I’m just saying maybe it shouldn’t be Tier 1 anymore.
Anyway, great list. I hope to see it continue to be updated!
Yeah, The list needs to be updated. I think a “Just released” section would be more appropriate at the top of the list, since new games can be replaced quickly (SF4, You know there’s gonna be at least 3 iterations of this). But will still be very competitive until the next iteration come out. Then, the last (or most competitive) will stay on the list until it dies out of the tourney scene.
I haven’t had the motivation for this, but I figured I would change it… now or a long time. I don’t really post or log in much, but if someone responds, and I read it, I’ll try to update it.
-I took off the 3rd tier games, and put them in the respective sections. those games are pretty dead, now that I look at it.
-Some of the games look like they should be in a certain category. Honestly, if its below the cutoff point, and its not just released, then I don’t care where it is. My focus for this list at the present time is strictly for any game that is just released, or is above the cutoff point (the actual competition games).
-I would hope that this list would make people explore games they’ve never heard of, and actually play them to a certain extent. That doesn’t really matter, now, but I’m sure there is someone there that it will impact.
-There is a text limit, so I had to make some insignificant changes.
