The mashing metagame

Steve walks warily down the street, brim pulled way down low.
Ain’t no sound but the sound of his feet, machine guns ready to go.
Are you ready? Are you ready for this? Are you hanging on the edge of your seat?

My nonexistant money is on ataconazi, no disrespect to girly.

I like how sometimes people say that throwing is a 50/50 when they don’t consider invincible moves or just flat out jumping.

Hell, I’ve found myself in matches where someone will be doing something only to stop and block, then have both players doing nothing in c.LP range.

Then it’s like a game of chicken… who will stop blocking to do c.LP? :stuck_out_tongue:

Eh none taken. I don’t blame you. My money match history ain’t the best, but the game is most fun when there is something directly on the line

Mashes 360

You two flirt weird.

Was that flirting? But there were no awkward propositions that shamed bother the asker and the asked… No excessive questions, or mouth breathing either. Where am I?

I save mouth breathing for when I know it’s true love

I’m so glad that I learned to use the word “metagame” from competitive Pokemon battling and not Smash, or else I may be yet another victim of its misuse.

if it works, use it.

i HATE mashing reversals with a very distinct passion cause of the lack of skill involved and the fact that reversals beat "everything"
however i do mash sometimes and will continue to do so until the game punishes me for it… by like you know having me get hit or the move not coming out.

if mashing works in this game, then its the games fault, not the layers fault, as the player should utilize whatever he can that the game allows him to use, unless said thing has been banned “gambit glitch etc”

if you dont think mashing works in this game you are SORELY mistaken. there are 3 prime candidates for mashing:

mashing dat tag out
mashing dat super
mashing dat throw tech

if mike wants those things gone there are ways he could accomplish it. personally its only really mashing super that REALLY bothers me as that has a much bigger window to work and generally forces block guesses from the offender… whereas throw mashing and tag mashing can be beaten via a sort of aggressive option select.

but yeah, im laughing inside at people that think mashing those reversals arent a legit strategy in this game… they certainly are, its up to the players playing against them, as it is now t predict them and blow them up… (which is a shame imho)

Screw that, if i get caught in a Painwheel combo in real life, imma just punch the dude in the nuts.

They can taste some of my metagame.

With how strong the low/throw mixup is it’s a damn good job that mashing reversal works IMO

I honestly just love everything about this games engine lol.
Throws would be broken with a throw reject miss mechanic or getting thrown out of throw startup. but there’s no dumb oh I slightly mistimed my throw tech due to hitstun and got thrown even though I knew it was coming kinda stuff that everyone hates (obv including mike z). It’s 100% pure mixup in this game, no bs. Did you know the throw was coming and mashed tech? Gj you teched. Did you think hed bait the mashing/go for a frametrap move instead so you blocked? Gj you blocked. The 50/50s are so pure in sg which is why it feels ao fluid and wonderful

Also I have no beef with you girly I just like injecting hype into this Shitty little community lol

But seriously the only person that’s beaten me first to ten so far is omnisscythe. And I’ve played A LOT of ft10s. So if you wanna gimme yo money lez do it Kappa

you know i’m in there

you best be going to evo

this annoys me so much. most times as well you go for the mixup and then take the hit from the raw tag, double can bloody combo from hers as well!

i love when people do this because it tells me a shit ton about how they play.

going for a mixup can include doing nothing and block and stopping and jumping.

^^ yea its pretty easy to get a read when theyve done it once or twice, i admit they will usually hit me with it at least once when it is somebody who you havent played before/for a long time.

i think in that scenario you always come out on top, because in a tournament setting, you have a lot of opportunity to make the read. it doesn’t matter if you get hit once, because now you are ready for a good punish (hopefully better then what they got on you), and you are also in their head for potentially blowing up one of their ‘tactics’

it kinda works both ways… everytime you drop a reset purposefully to block… in hopes of them mashing something silly, yet they dont… you lose out bigtime. of course we could just finish the combo… but thats meh. in all honesty the way to stop all this bs is to do air based resets that way no mash out or at least only a super/normal. that is much harder to follow up on.
air resets are the wave of the future imho cause of how much inherently safer and higher probability they are when not having to worry about mashy defense.

luckily my character painwheel has an abundance of ground and air resets as well as lefts and rights from the ground and air.
