his runaway style can be entertaining as hell. the early part of the movie when he thinks hes the better fighter and realizes midfight he’s fucked ie. first part of drunken master 1 and first part of 2.
The best fights in Drunken master 1 and 2 occur at the end of the film. he doesn’t run away from Lau Kar-Leung at the beginning of Drunken master 2. Lau Kar-Leung is the one running away from Jackie. I don’t consider that scene to be an example of Jackies runaway style because he goes toe to toe with Lau Kar-Leung.
His runaway style is only a small part of the way he approaches his fight scenes. To me what separates Jackie’s fight scenes from everyone else is the fact that he lets his opponents shine, like when he faced Ken Lo in DM2 and Billy Chow (briefly, in Miracles) and obviously Benny the Jet and Bradley Allen. Compare that to Donnie vs Wu Jing and vs Sammo in SPL, All the fight scenes in Ip Man 1. Although two of Donnies best fights have been against Jet Li he’s stated in interviews that he’s sick and tired of losing to him, thats why they have’nt made any new films together… yes Donnie has a bit of an ego, lol.
I enjoy all Jackie films, he adds a certain humor & likability to himself or the film despite how terrible the movie…
Yeah new films i just cant stand i mean they are better then 1997-2001 era where there were only pop star fighters but newer movies lost a lot of its charm you see in the 70s/80s…Trying to hard to be cool, instead letting the action speak for itself.
As for this Donnie vs Jackie debate, Sammo has them beat in hand2hand, weapon fighting, & fight choreography…
damn Tony Jaa still doing those moves? Acrobat school musta short changed him on the amount of tech they teach. Gonna be fun watching Diesel throw mad kicks in FnF7, especially after the good job he did in the last movie. Dunno if am being sarcastic yet…
Not sure I understand this ____ vs _____. I think they’re all good and have their own distinctive styles and have contributed their fair and unique share to Hong Kong cinema.
One of my favorite Jackie Chan fights scenes of all time is wheels on meals. I heard that Benny and Jackie at first didn’t like each other, so they actually were rough during the fight. You could see the padding under their shirt at times, so I don’t doubt that they probably threw some hard punches when they had the opportunity. I don’t really know if they hate each other after that because Benny did star in more films with Jackie after that or maybe they just kept the hate professional and just did their job.
as a fat guy who can effortlessly pull of backflips, always finds a way to nail a hot chick in his movies and had a famous fight with Bruce Lee wearing just his pants, Sammo Hung can do whatever the fuck he wants.
His fight against Wu Jing (lol first time not seen him as some asshole good guy) is pretty intense, Sammo is my fav outta the 3 brothers when it comes to weapons.
Yeah, he explained that it was a misunderstanding on Bruce Lee’s part. Bruce faced so many challengers in his time that a simple praise like “I heard you are a pretty good fighter” can sound like a challenge. Sammo said he wasn’t sure if Bruce took it the wrong way or he was just in the mood for a spar, but he was sure as hell the fastest man he ever saw.
According to his brother, he would wear the traditional Chinese garments and when someone gave him a weird look, he would pick a fight with him. Hahahaha
he wanted to get to billy chow mainly but then saw that his friends/men were still eating so he felt more confident fighting them because he could attack their stomach.
billy chow is a thai fighter so it was harder/impossible for sammo to get to his stomach
Its not that I dont like him, for what he does I think he is actually pretty cool and I rate Ong Bak right up there, I just dont like the hype TJ gets, hes a 1 trick pony and some people see him as the new MA messiah. He even did the same ole shit in Bodyguard and that was a 2 min cameo.
Does anyone know of any weapon fight scenes with unique weapons? For example in Young Master, the kid who fought Jackie Chan was using a wooden bench as a weapon. I am just curious because I would like to see more scenes with unique weapons.
