The Martial Arts Movie Thread 2017 Donnie hates his fans

Raid 2 should be fucking awesome, am wondering if they are gonna rip off judge dredd the same way JD ripped of the raid. So instead of Iko Uwais beating up goons, hes smoking judges and abc warriors instead xD

Love the poster too.

Oh noes really? I wasnt aware of when these movies were filmed just when they were available to watch, gee wiz i wish i sucked a lot of dick like you and could be pretentious enough to pretend to know shit! Am sowwy.

Faggot.

watch before it gets deleted.

Man those are some shitty fight scenesā€¦Especially the first one w/ Ken Lo.

It really is, Iā€™m so disappointed. I think Donnie is so obsessed with MMA heā€™s forgotten about the style that made him famous in the first place.

I find it quite sad that the Bruce Lee vs Donnie fight looked far better than anything in Special ID. Well at least we didnā€™t pay to watch this film, lol.

I think the fight scenes in SPL and Flashpoint and their respective styles, perhaps we can coin it ā€œrealisticā€, looked pretty awesome to me.

I found SPL & Flashpoint overrated tooā€¦Donnie best recent fights were in Ip Man & Wuxia.

Ip Man and Wu Xia were pretty awesome too.

Vin Diesel and Tony Jaa training together for F7ā€¦ Pretty interesting.

Ip man will never live up to the greatness of this film:

or even this:

The cinematography and music in SPL & Flashpoint were great but the fight scenes were overrated.

What I like in Flashpoint and SPL is that he showcases techniques from a variety of martial arts. What I didnā€™t like is that the fights were too one-sided. There is no suspense, no tension when the protagonists just overwhelmingly wins all the time.

I didnā€™t really like Sammo Hungā€™s characterā€™s fighting style in SPL. I feel like he should have been more like Boss X from Streets of Rage.

Thatā€™s why I prefer Jackie Chan over Donnie Yen. Donnieā€™s fights are too one sided, unless its against Jet Li. The second to last fight in Flashpoint (with the guy who throws that kid) is probably the most one sided fight scene iā€™ve ever seen. The guy didnt land a single hit on Donnie.

I think the last great fight scene Iā€™ve been somewhat amazed by was Jackie vs Bradley Allen in Gorgeous.

As a kid, I loved movies like Operation Condor and Project A, but now, somehow Jackie Chanā€™s movies have become dull for me except for Forbidden Kingdom. Heā€™s put out a lot of good movies, but a lot of cookie cutter belloni.

donnie yens application of gravity in the fights in spl and moreso flashpoint is worth its own realization of greatness

nothing compares to the spiritual and deciplined consciousness found in most of the older films and the prodigal son

prodigal son was the blue prints of jackie/sammo/yuen films which were full of gravity consciousness.

the newer films try to tell more of a story in their movements but id much rather observe more creative thinking in their expression, newer films lack that sense of improvisation. too structured

Gorgeous was the last Jackie Chan film I watched. I havenā€™t seen the forbidden kingdom or even rush hour 2ā€¦ I donā€™t really keep up with martial art films like i used to because they all suck now.

You mean this fight scene?

I feel you, I felt the fight scene was pretty underrated. I am a big fan of Chanā€™s work, and he is really creative with his scenes. Also I really like the speed of the fights.

Also I loved Chan in Young Master. The fight scene with between Chan and the guy carrying the bench was pretty cool.

Oof! DO NOT WATCH RUSH HOUR 1,2 or **** this s***!

Forbidden Kingdom was bawse doe!

my biggest problem with jacky is alot of times he becomes boxed into his own style. itā€™s either

  1. ā€œthe i dont want any trouble fightā€ā€¦where he does some zany cool martial arts with inanimate objects assist all the while trying to act like he got stuck in a bad scooby doo episode running around doors tryin to run away.

or

  1. ā€œi invented parkourā€ where he basically tries to find a new way to commit suicide.

now i like jackyā€¦but i feel this comedy style of martial arts has limited all his fight scenes to these two categories. imo it shouldnt feel so gimmicky like thatā€¦as least not just 2 gimmicks ya know?

Or his Police Story fight scenes, where he just flat out rag dolls people with brutal north/south kung fu combos. Like really really fucks people up hard. Jacky Chans western films are shite, pretty much cause hes ā€œthat niggaā€ americans want to see, gimmicked to the max.

I tell ya Hollywood is where good martial artists go to die.

iā€™m only comparing the two in terms of their one on one fight scenes and what theyā€™ve achieved so far at this point in their careers. iā€™m not a fan of parkour, dangerous stunts or fights scenes with inanimate objects, including weapons, (blade of fury and fire dragon being the only exceptions). Iā€™m not a fan of jackies runaway kungfu style either but when he wants to fight, i.e., drunken master 2, Police story 1, Thunderbolt, wheels on meals, dragons forever, Gorgeousā€¦ i know iā€™m missing a few other filmsā€¦ anyway, when his on point with his fight scenes I dont think donnie can touch him.
