The MarsGatti Farewell/Peace Out Thread

Thelo, you look like a german tourist :stuck_out_tongue: I bet 5 mins in the sun would kill you.

and now it really is bed time

If you have to be pretty to be a Vega player then I need to add about 300 LBs so I can keep using Honda, LOL.

Could someone please explain the ways that the XBox 360 version of HDR is superior to the PS3 version? This isn’t being asked sarcastically. I am genuinely interested in an itemized list of the differences in both online and offline play.
The only reason that I bought the PS3 to begin with was HDR. Now PS3ers are being discriminated against at local tournaments. I’d like to know why.

Almost every tourney I’ve been to always uses PS3’s for HDR.

As you know I play on both 360 and PS3 on HDR:

For whatever reason the 360 version of HDR got a patch that the PSN version didn’t. The patch fixed the ton of random dissconnects and room deaths that I’m sure all PSN users are aware of. Just for this reason alone it is more enjoyable to play on 360, you don’t have the rooms dying every few matches. The patch also supposedly fixed the ranking bug where if someone dropped on you, you would get the loss and the problem where people lost all of their ranked points.

Keep in mind that I own both versions. Ok. There is more lag in PSN HDR, it is MUCH harder to find games, and disconnects are much more frequent. I even DC’d at the vs. screen one time, the first that such an instance has ever happened. Other times I spent over 15 minutes trying to get a single online ranked match going. Its just a pain in the ass, I’m thankful I got it for free. I invested about 3-4 hours in it and then returned to XBL HDR. Now, you might be asking ā€œWhat if its just your connection?ā€ I doubt it, as my 360 online experience is generally very smooth - I can even play Japanese players with minimal lag in many cases. I have found PSN as a whole to be inferior to XBL, from a lack of people having mics to general disconnects in games. IMO, PS3 is a great console but definitely not the definitive multiplayer experience.

EDIT: I would imagine local tournaments use PS3 due to the d-pad? For whatever reason I actually find the 360 d-pad better regardless of the fact that I constantly whine about it. I know Jiggly agrees with me, not sure about other cross-platform players.

360 analog is 1000x better than PS series dpad for FGs. And another reason I think more people play HDR aside from the better online is parties, too.

^ Most tournies use PS3’s becuase of all the PS2 to PS3 adapters outthere, making it easier for most people to use their PS1/PS2 sticks to play HDR/SF4. Before the SF4 TE sticks the only way you could get a quality 360 stick was an expensive custom.

It will be interesting to see if that changes with the amount of people that have Mad Catz sticks now. I don’t think it will, but more smaller tournies might be more inclined to use 360’s.

As a dedicated pad player, I have to say that the Playstation D-Pad is absolutely the easiest to play fighting games with if you use it properly, i.e placing the joint of your thumb in the center of the pad rather than trying to do everything with the tip of your thumb. If you do the ā€˜tip of your thumb’ technique, Playstation pads are worthless.

This might be amongst the sexiest things i have ever witnessed.

I think it’s because the 360 version was the system HDR was designed and beta tested on, so it’s a better online experience according to people who have both versions.

Offline… I’ll let someone else answer that one.

Offline, there is no difference between the PS3 and 360 versions of HDR.

That is what I do when I play on PS series pad. And I think it still sucks. Oh well.

I thought I could grow to like it but:

SFIV is fucking trash, I absolutely hate it. I hate the fact that every fucking person can 100% do a wake-up. I hate the fact that you can fucking jump over a person, land behind him, and just randomly do shit. I hate how so many fucking attacks which shouldn’t be safe are 100% safe (a guy sweeps, I block, and yet I can’t sweep back???). I hate how anti-airs aren’t really fucking anti-airs. I hate how a person is listed as available 20 times on custom games but you get ā€œTHIS ROOM IS FULLā€ every time you try to fucking join. I hate how its so easy to cancel into an ultra. I hate the fucking taunt system and all the trash-talking it brings to a game that I like to enjoy with respect and good sportsmenship (a special shout-out to the *** who taunted me nonstop, only to lose. Eat my asshole you fuckin’ pansy). I hate how sometimes my fucking blocks don’t register even though I AM CLEARLY BLOCKING!

I. Fucking. Hate. This. Game.

Through all this shit and agony I still managed to finish strong and increase my win %. Vega FTW.

My experience with Xbox vs PS3 for HDR is that the PS3:
Seems to deal with lag worse. For a similar ping, Xbox live is generally a lot smoother than PSN.

Has glitched sprites that sometimes go invisibile for a few frames (may be a non loading issue).

Regularly disconnects.

Sometimes refuses to load, causing online games to die, but also affects offline (such as Arcade mode not loading).

Has higher pitched sound effects (I believe the Xbox SE to be correct).

Online Turbo 3 is much slower than Xbox 360. Not sure which is the correct T3 though, because online the Xbox feels faster than offline.

Cannot use 60fps for PAL with SD connections (dumb system limitation). This means I can’t cap frame data. I can on Xbox though.

Shows unjoinable lobbies as well as joinable lobbies in the search (why do I want to see lobbies I can’t join?).

Has some annoying ā€œSearching for roomsā€ screen that pops up everytime (which doesn’t seem to be part of the game) and generally takes longer to do anything.

Can’t reconfigure controls when spectating a match (you can on Xbox). Not sure about in game though, didn’t try that.

Pad is even worse than the Xbox.
I can’t comment much for offline, but everything feels pretty much the same in the training mode at least.

Yeah I had some turtling Ryu player do this the other day. Would just sit there and focus fireballs, when I had to go up to him to attack he would just wait for a reversal and taunt. I’d like to see that ****** do the same on HDR. Oh wait he wouldn’t because he’d be wasted by the time he figured out there was no focusing in SF2. To bad it appears that SF4 was the only SF game that dude played too. I pity the fools.

On the pad, I used the 360 DPad for a long time, I actually never understood all the hate for it. I’ve been using a stick now for about a month or so, and I can say my execution is still only about 65% of what it was on the DPad. Where I find the stick helpful is for the buttons not for the movement… But I’m working on it!

Oh don’t talk about everyone having wake up options… I play Makoto… she’s below Dan Tier in Super… no credible wake up game at all… There’s so many things to not like about the entire SF4 engine… I don’t even bother with it anymore, instead, I try to be positive and talk about why HDR is so AWESOME!!!

Oh and back on pads for a second, I know RoyalPhlush is a pad player, mainly on 360. I know he won MWC which was on PS3. He was using some PS3 pad that’s laid out like a 360 pad… I wonder if the DPad is simliar on that… Anyone know what that was? Just curious… (No I’m not leaving the stick… but I’ve been tempted…)

Going out on a limb here, it’s most likely because Sony sponsors Evo.

First rule of organizational economics… follow the money.

So my mind is clear and I’m going to give IV another go tonight after my summer class. Expect more ranting  BTW - does Mars even realize that he’s indirectly responsible for the greatest SRK thread ever?

How can he? He’s been far too busy working with the US Government to secretly bring peace to Thailand in the fall out of Shadoloo’s failed attempt to hijack the Thai elections to control Thailand’s growing drug trade… he’s too busy saving the world to know about this little hiccup in history

Ahem.
