I play Claw in SF4 like I do in ST. Same pokes, same AAs, same c.mp into wall dive. Not playing DJ because he doesn’t seem that interesting (and crappy upkicks = eww). I hear he’s good, but I really don’t want to play as him.
Well, you know who won’t be on? Mars. You know why? Rumor has it he decided to go to Canada to launch a one man sonic invasion of our friendly neighbor… I’m sure pics are coming as definitive proof any moment.
I know I won’t, but BTC was owning me pretty bad last night with Vega… (no offense) his Vega isn’t even that good… I just need to spend more time practicing with the stick. I feel like I"m finally getting the motions down… now my problem are the buttons, I find myself pressing the wrong button or my thumbs are moving insticintivly… muscle memory sucks…
Oh and Gamefly shipped my copy of Super today so I’ll probably get it Thursday.
Meh, instead of SSF4 I’ll be playing HDR and Afro Samurai (on sale at Gamestop for $9.99 new!). I’m not much of an anime guy but Afro Samurai was freaking awesome (Samuel Jackson is the coolest mofo on the planet), and the game is pretty good too!
This thread is still on the first page? Skims thru the pages
lol ,all you guys RULE
It just makes me think that the HDr forum needs its OWN “general talk” thread.
Because we kinda do think alike.
…well at least we all like the same game.
And its a lot easier to talk to other people you feel you know.
And yea I hate New York Sports too.
Screw the Yankees.
The NFL is becoming as bad as the NBA.
The refs play too big a part in games.
And why are the covering the NFL Draft so damn much? 28 million viewers?
GTFOH, most of those rookies wont even play their first year.
Yeah this obituary has really turned into something else. I say a notice of death has turned into a celebration of life! Cue Cheezy Applause
The NFL isn’t like the NBA. If so the Colts would be terrible like the Pacers… Seriously understand where you’re coming from but the refs are doing their job, the problem isn’t the refs so much as the rule book now demands refs make calls. You can’t expect 100% accuracy but I think NFL refs on the whole do a pretty good job with the rules they’re given.
The NFL Draft is a ploy of marketing genius. Consider this. The NFL dominates every month it’s on. August, September, October, November, December, January, now February with the Super Bowl. March belongs to college basketball. April used to be the exclusive domain of MLB but guess what? They’ve built an entire business model for the draft based on giving crazed football fans something to whet their appetite to make sure they come back in August… it’s absolutly brilliant. And the three day draft was a ratings bonanza. That’s the genius of the NFL at work, it screws fans, but it makes money hand over fist!
And when are draft experts going to learn not to grade Colts’ drafts? They’re always wrong. Who’s the best draftng team in the NFL despite the fact they always pick near the bottom? Indianapolis. At some point you just have to say “Here’s what I think, but I know Bill Polian is smarter than me…” SCREW YOU MEL KIPER!
Also finally, yeah, this has pretty much turned into our own little general discussion thread… anyone want to talk SC2? I’m loving me some Terran up in here!
So, like, SSF4 is pretty good. I still prefer the fighting engine of the older SF games but I’m slowly getting used to the new stuff. BUT I HATE THOSE FUCKING TRIALS!
I used to play random but I “main” Zerg all the time now in SC2 beta. Really enjoying it! I’m also pretty sucky on a competitive level, I’m only upper Copper league (when its actually working… massive problems on EU server last few weeks), although myself and a friend (who’s worse than me 1v1) somehow got ranked Gold for 2v2 for a while! Madness.
I’ll be trying out some SSF4, might as well. SF4 was fun for a few months for me, I imagine this will be too; not expecting anything more though.
Oh and the NFL is awesome and the best sports league on the planet. I’m just seriously worried about what happens after this year of no-cap severe restrictions… a strike will be so annoying. They NEED to keep the salary cap. I almost did a sports finance degree about it as it happens. It’s really amusing that over the last few years people suddenly started to realise all the stuff I was writing about when the cap was introduced.
Okay, then I’m fully expecting my leaked copy of Diablo 3 any day now…
The NFL is awesome. It’s good to see there’s at least one European on board. That means there’s got to be a couple others somewhere. That’s great, the NFL wants to hear from more of you! Hence they keep sending the NFL to London every year…
I hope there’s no lockout. I definetly don’t want a lockout for the 2011 season, Indianapolis is suppoed to host the Super Bowl that year! If they lockout that’d be a disaster… This year isn’t that big of deal to not have a salary cap because most free agents who would have been unrestricted are restricted and can match offers so I don’t think its going to be that big of a deal with the exception of maybe Peyton Manning’s and Tom Brady’s Contracts which could get up to the 20 million dollars / year mark…
SO that raises the obviously too early to tell but prognostications are always welcome predictions for the year. I think it’s going to be a repeat Super Bowl, Indianapolis / New Orleans, that’s not a homer pick, I think they’re the two best teams in the league and I think by a relatively clear margin. Although I think Indy would win a rematch (at least if they’re healthy…).
Oh and Zerg? Yuck… fleshy crawly insect thingies… Hydralisks as a tier 2 unit now… but roaches! ROACHES! Oh how i hate roaches…
Oh and if this thread is getting a new name it has to be “The Thread Formerly Known as the Marsgatti Obituary”. Real talk.
Heheh, sorry… that’s just a bit of a Starcraft 1 really obscure in-joke… just thought I’d post it here to see if anyone got it (1 in a million there is anyone though!).
And I’ve been to Wembley every year so far to watch it. :bgrin:
Although I’ll be giving this year a miss this year, cos Broncos v Whiners? Eck.
I’ve also been to the States a bunch of time to watch games. I’ve been a massive NFL fan since 91/92, which was when NO-ONE in the UK liked it, believe me. :badboy:
My first NFL game was the last game they played at Wembley back then. Cowboys vs Lions pre-season special! 13-13 tie… Dallas’s kicker missed 4 potential game winning FGs; and of course, got cut a few days after the game, as I rather easily predicted. laughs
Yeah exactly. Don’t worry, I find I am way more aware of how the NFL works than most Americans. (at least the type who go on forums…)
I think you can make a good argument for that, but statistically, that’s just not how the NFL works anymore! When was the last time there was a repeat Super Bowl? I honestly think a heckuva lot of teams are very close. Too early to make my picks anyway
Zerg are certainly really really weird now! I actually tend to do well ZvZ and ZvP, but I don’t have a clue what to do ZvT. I seem to end up with Zerglings and Roaches dying easily to Marines & Marauders; around 40 pop they seem far more effective due to better massing ability… or on the wrong end of a damn Banshee rush. It’s so hard to get anti-air with Zerg now. One wrong tech and you seem to instantly die vs Terran.
That reminds me, I got a kick out of the 6 game lobby for the ‘finals’ for the last XBL Euro tournament. There were 6 players in the lobby, four of them had Street Fighter gamericons, yet I had my Dolphins one (webcam photo of one of my Dolphins jerseys! I ain’t paying MS to place some darn pixels that I can get for free), and Shari had his MtG Blue one.
(incidentally, in the XBLA Magic game, I actually used to be able to win lots with Mono-Blue (my fave deck) until the blummin patch!)
Yeah opinions on Zerg seem to run the gambit. In Korea Zerg are everywhere and are considered dominant. In North America everyone is saying the Zerg aren’t very good and need to be buffed more. I think from what I hear, Europe’s opinion tends to be mixed but I think it skews more towards Zerg need help than they are over dominant. But I dont’ know what’s going on in Korea. It’s like “Oh by the way, we know WTF we’re doing and we don’t care, here’s our standard SC1 build bitches, do something about it.” I’m surprised there’s not more innovation coming out of Korea, at least that’s what I’m seeing.
And I should have gotten the joke…
I wanted to play XBLA Magic but my understanding is you couldn’t build your own deck… that disturbed me greatly. I want to build my deck and then go for broke ya know?
Hmm, I heard Korea was doing quite a bit of innovative stuff and the reason 'Toss got nerfed a lot the last few patches was due to Korean proxy pylon builds dominating or something. But yeah, it’s all anecdotal of course! I don’t have the time to follow everything about the game closely, I just like playing it and I think it’s the best RTS, and I’m especially impressed with their competitive online model. I friggin WISH HDR had some of that infrastructure. Or to heck with it, if ANY fighting game had their league and matchmaking concepts it would be great. It looks like Halo Reach will be borrowing some of it in the FPS arena… as always though, fighting games really lagging behind (lag… get it? ;-P).
For what it’s worth I did a write-up and mini batrep on the SCII beta. Piiiiiimp my site!
Yeah XBLA Magic only has small elements of deck building. It’s not about deck building, but about playing Magic. I have an article/review planned about why that isn’t that bad at all though, unlike all the reviewers that don’t understand it; it’s actually closer to tournament Magic how it is. The trouble is actually with the deck balance and luck-enhancing deck design - which a small amount of customisation options would actually improve both - but this is only due to their mistakes with the decks in the game; allowing deck editing wouldn’t inherently improve balance or luck factors necessarily.
