DP doesn’t break armour, but reversal specials do. And if you can predict a non-reversal DP you may as well just block and punish the old fashioned way.

lol if you were good enough to predict a DP and use a counter ultra, then you should be good enough to dash back, make it whiff and punish it and this option works on both reversal AND non reversal DPs, ROFL.

Neat! That last hit does a pretty good sum of damage too. Apart from always getting the full cinema (which Capcom doesn’t want to do for whatever reason), this seems like a pretty decent answer. You’ll probably be doing more than Sagat’s ultra combos now, given his damage nerf!

It is looking like that 3rd hit will connect most of the time. When Fei hit Rose with the third hit of the ultra, she was already pretty mid-screen-y, so it wasn’t some random incident where she was really high up. I think a lot of Feis said they’d be happy if this change was made a few months ago. 420-450ish damage on an ultra setup in SSF4 looks to be pretty good.

So now there’s officially no reason at all ever to use U2?

All they need to show me now is that all three hits of CW connect in juggles and we’re golden.

That said I refuse to be convinced on the juggle potential of U1 until I actually see it.

You ever play online vs a Ryu/Ken/Sagat/Akuma ? and they block chicken wing or most moves what do you end up eating 99% of the time ?,this Counter ultra is prob a shoto worse nightmare online, elsewhere not so much.

Lots of stupid shit happens to me online that never happens offline. So basically, I dont care what happens to me online. It’s a fucking joke.

Also, baiting reversal DPs then using U2 is a joke (PS: Reversal DPs break glass.)

Also, having Ultra 2 is a tool. But it’s akin to putting a hammer in a first aid kit.

I guess thats why the U2 is breakable cause Fei/Cammy would dominate online since every other person you fight is flowchart Ryu/Ken/Sagat/Akuma with reverals and wake up DP’s

Judging its perceived practicality based on online matches is a poor way to measure a moves worth, even if it did work on armour break moves, the utility of the counter ultra still stands in the sense that you still have to randomly throw it out hoping it’ll catch and that’s the only way it can be used.

if anyone can confirm if the Ultra II can link after a FA crumple than the ultra isnt that bad let alone it can probably counter Akuma’s Dive Kick depending on how fast it starts up

There would be no set ways to use it, it’ll always be used randomly because each and every opponent you face will approach you differently meaning there is a large amount of guessing involved - working with different opponents and how they attack you or not attack you. Using this well consistently against many different opponents will be very difficult because there is never a scenario where you can confirm and guarantee the ultra will connect.

Its not one of them ultras where you can really say if this happens use ultra otherwise don’t, like say a SRK>FADC>ultra, if SRK hits then FADC ultra, if not then FADC to mixup. And in ryu’s case there are a lot of conditions and ways to confirm them, I can spam SRK with ryu for example and if it hits, that is a signal for me to blast my ultra out and i’ll know for certain it’ll hit. Fei with ultra 1 has lacking conditions however they’re still more reliable than a counter ultra like if FA hits, ultra, if not then don’t. If flame kick hits then FADC to CW>ultra, if not then FADC to safety. See where this is going? There are glaring signals you can look out for to actually know when to use the ultra and guarantee it will hit.

Honestly ultra 1 looks faster to me now. Could be my eyes playing tricks on me but it seems to start faster / go further.

I’ve managed to land all 3 hits of his flying kick after FADCing his RDP+K, but what other juggles does the move not get 3 hits on?

LOL at FA beating counter ultra. LOL at it only working on one side. Laugh you can still get crossed during the counter ultra.

It’s not that it doesn’t work at all – it’s that it doesn’t work on half the cast. You can land it on Ryu, for instance, but you can’t land it on Fei. You get two of the three hits and therefore can’t follow up. And that sucks, because it’d be like half the cast being immune to Metsu while in a juggle state.

Fuck me, that’s comically awful. Does that mean crossups are off the table too? Because jump-ins are honestly the only reason I’d even care. Nice to know it does a pathetic 470 damage too – Vega seems to do the same.

Since you’re not going to be using the counter ultra anyway, this news shouldn’t impact your impression of Fei…

But it does, because Chun gets an amazing ultra on top of an already amazing one. Fei gets Blanka hunching over his mouth letting rip with an egg fart and making him swallow it, despite having already been made to bend over and receive Sagat in SF4.

You keep praying that the counter will turn out okay so that it’s at least usable in a gimmicky sense, but it just gets worse and worse.
