The "Make Fei Long competitive" thread

Ugh… the point was made a while ago that the delay of fei being put up on the site “may” have something to do with them changing it. So in that respect I am justified in being disappointed. On the other hand you’re right in some aspects that a counter ultra could be useful in some set-ups. However the arguments have been made in the “Change/remove counters” thread and your comments should be directed toward that thread.

… the point was to simply voice my opinion which if I recall is the point in having forums… and give others that actually care about this thread and what happens to this character a means to see and judge the ultras by themselves. Go back under your bridge please! :tup:

I don’t remember reading anywhere that ex cw lost fireball invincibility. If anything, I’ve read that his cw’s appear to have MORE invincibility. I’m pretty sure ex losing this ability would fall under the “major changes” category that a blog recently stated Fei did not get.

The only thing I’m looking for is slightly more frame advantage on his moves, a bit more damage, or better combo potential off of his already pretty decent overhead.

IF he gets two out of three of these, I think he’ll be fine. Also if they return his Ultra juggle to FK FADC HK CW Ultra his comback potential will be better than it currently is. Losing the HK CW to ultra hurt him a lot more than I think most Fei players realize.

Fei isn’t terrible. in fact I’d actually place him mid tier.Most of his matchups are 5-5 with his worst ones being Sagat and Zangief at 7-3. Zangief is still going to be trouble in Super and I think T.Hawk will be as well, but the Sagat match should be easier with Sagat having less life and doing less damage.

Since HK CW Ultra still works on Honda i tested it out…mk FK FADC HK CW 3 hit ultra does 480 dmg
add a j.mk and cl.fp on to that and you got 523 dmg. He needs this back and it needs to be universal on all characters.

I know this is wishful thinking, but after looking at the counter ultra on the jp site, it almost seems as though maybe there’s a mechanism now where you pull out the ultra, and you can dictate when to release it as a counter to an attack:

In other words, maybe once you’ve done the ultra animation, Fei remains in a ‘stance’ that allows him to counter ultra if you do a certain mechanism, but there’s a limited time to doing it.

Either way, it doesn’t sound too promising that U1 is still full animation after 2nd hit, and that U2 remained a counter ultra. :frowning:

Maybe they took my suggestion and made ultra 1 ground the opponent on hit.

I dunno… we can complain about the shit they’re doing with Fei but in the end we might get the game and he turns out to be top tier as fuck.

Let’s face it… what worse can they do with Fei? We’ve only got up to go from here. Hopefully he’ll get some use out of his ultra… maybe make rekkas safer (sigh no increased damage? why?).

if not there’s plenty of other characters to choose from.

Kyroc: If you can “extend” the counter window by holding buttons or whatever, I’m gonna walk up to you and throw you. Unless there’s a 0 frame recovery which I can then buffer into rekkas or something, you’re basically a sitting duck.

Eventhubs has the full artwork up for Fei, but is there a higher res version anywhere? The SF3 crowd have enormous pictures (both line art and select screen!) around so I’m assuming it’d have to be somewhere.

Oh but i’m afraid it can, if it is true about EX CW then that’s it, he’s done, he’ll be zoned out like shit.

making Fei’s cr.mk able to link into Rekkas or FK would make Fei pretty competitive, not that theres a chance we’ll ever get it. Other than that, CW breaking armor on all hits and a massive damage boost would make it more than fair.

I would be fine with Fei’s Ultra I for a combo Ultra if after Chicken Wing it popped up more so that 3 hits would land every time and do decent damage. It already works on Honda, and it does 500+ damage depending on how you set it up, so I suppose that’s good enough, it just needs to work on everybody.

its come to the point where i dont even care if Fei has an Ultra or not. I dont really rely on it much considering it only goes into full animation by crumple and FA’s aren’t exactly safe. Juggling is nice but i usually prefer to save it for Super or Canceling blocked FK, and mainly for getting in with EX CW.

i’m not that negative about the counter ultra

here’s a few uses i can think of:

  • punishing some moves on reaction like rush straight/scissors/etc. (if it won’t lose to armor breaking moves it might punish a lot of moves… like headbutt, blanka ball, palm, tatsu)
  • punishing zangief’s lariat, guile’s sweep, ken’s tatsu (block then ultra between hits)
  • dhalsim/seth limbs
  • balrog jab spam and any character’s blockstrings

^ Also Seth’s limbs. There are a lot of Seths online.

Fei was a step away from bottom tier in SF2, in SF4 he is low tier…maybe in SSF4 he could manage a mid tier status lol. Although from the disclosed info on him so far, we will probably get just a refined and “fixed” version of fei which will probably boast his rankings a slot or 2. He will be a bad charatcers regardless, but I think all we can hope for at this point is a easiar time playing as him.

Counters are great if you’re GIVEN something to react to, no one in the right mind is going to throw a tatsu or a headbutt or a blanka ball from full screen length. As for silly shit like guiles sweep, yeah ALOT of things punish it, you can even do ULTRA 1 inbetween the sweeps.

Attempting to counter balrogs jab is an ambiguous guess - you’d pretty much have to throw it out randomly in anticipation that he might throw a jab, you aren’t going to be reacting to a 3 frame jab, sure having the ultra might slightly make him less incline to throw a jab but that is all. Same goes for sims, its just as dangerous for you to use the ultra than it is for them to be caught by the ultra, there’s just too much room for error, simple example, sim throws a yoga fire, you think he’s gonna use s.HP but instead he does nothing, gg you just wasted an ultra and possibly ate a yoga fire in the process.
