The funniest thing I find is that a good majority of the people who posted in this thread we’ve hardly/never seen on the SFIV Fei boards.
I’m surprised at the 1 star on this thread just because Wong has great concept of basics at the game rather than Fei being a great character that does not need fixes.
Fei has some good normals compared to most of the cast but still is lacking compared to the same characters most of the cast has trouble against (Ryu, Gouki, Blanka, Boxer, Sagat, Gief).
That’s in essence the problem with SFIV in general. Bad match-ups do and should exist but not so lopsidedly. Character selection should be part of the rock, paper, scissors mechanic of fighting games but instead we have characters that are rock and paper or scissors and rock or scissors and paper while others are just rock, paper, scissors.
I mean Fei could be a seriously competitive character with the tweaks I listed further back in the thread. I think if he was more threatening in terms of damage and just had a few improvements to the tools he has now, he’d be fine. It does just feel like an uphill battle vs a lot of the cast, even if it is doable.
Its anoying sometimes how you can lose to lesser players, just because they can mash a lariat…
And spare me the " you should learn to avoid it/get around it…
I dont understand why capcom would put moves in this game, (this beautiful game),
that have so much advantage and have a one button input, ONE button!
Rekkashingeki is perfectly fine. Fei Long has the best Focus Attack in the game, and knowing that, is baiting someone into getting crumpled really that difficult?
Right, and how much did buffing his super raise him in the tiers?
Giving Fei Long an FADC into full ultra won’t really help him offensively, and right now in SF4 he’s a character that was apparently meant to be offensive but doesn’t fulfill that well. Making him or the inherent system less turtle friendly will go a longer way towards making him “more viable” than giving him another reason to play defensively.
Actually in a competitive match with adaptive players, it can be EXTREMELY difficult. Once people get over the novelty of focus attacks and learn to adapt their game to it, you will see less and less opportunities and your risk in using focus grows.
Also after a focus, the ultra does such little damage it’s pathetic.
My problem I have with Fei is that people learn to treat him like Geif and just stay the hell away and zone you out with pokes and play extremely defensive, you start to see some of the characters weaknesses. In a game where offensive play is rarely rewarded, being on offense for Fei is extremely risky and not all that rewarding in itself because of his low ass damage output. Tenshin takes setup and you have to take risks just GETTING the fucking setup, and then you get like 1/6th life for it maybe. That’s not much when sagat can take a much easier risk and do like 60%.
You can win with Fei but you have to put yourself in too many guessing situations with him IMO. He just needs to be more solid all around. I’m not sure why the developers are scared to buff him. IMo the reward he gets in damage output should be equal to the risk he takes in approaching a player.
People who think focus is overrated should watch a few Daigo matches. I’m pretty sure Fei’s focus is at least as good as Ryu’s.
Daigo just stands in front of someone and … focuses. And they poke. And Daigo gets a crumple. Granted, this only seems to be effective against American players, heh. But hey, it works. Fei can do it from farther away, too.
baiting som1 into a focus attack isnt reliable as a only means to garuntee ultra. But ive herd some characters mite be geting EX moves that crumple like c.vipers EX thunder knuckle. Many characters would benefit from this as they woulnt need a new launching move to juggle into ultra
Hey! I am new here. I have been reading and there are those who think Fei’s ultra is fine and dandy. Really? Is it?
I have had the Ultra land, hit once, whiff, and > eat SRK.
I have had the Ultra canceled by a FA.
You cant land the full ultra on an airborne character the way…umm…let me see…EVERYONE ELSE in the game can…
And, like someone said before me, the Ultra should DASH FORWARD like Abel and Chun’s. After all, this is Fei Long, who is based on Bruce Lee.
If nothing else is fixed on Fei Long, I hope they get his Ultra right.
